Food is absolutely AWFUL! Over salted, over sweetened, loaded with MSG! Worse yet I ordered on Uber eats- little did I know they were 8.8 miles away. A restaurant should not offer delivery that far unless they are desperate for business and don't care about the quality of their food which is apparently the case here. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!! This location recently changed management, and the service and food has gone downhill ever since! They raised their prices and give smaller portions, along with not caring how the food is packaged. There is no organization whatsoever, and they just throw your food in the bag. The rice spills all over, including sauce getting all over everything. The new young cashier just goes through the motions. No genuine customer service, or even ANY KIND of service with a smile. She is so busy in the back (never at the counter when customers walk in the front door) with deliveries, and you actually have to ring a bell for service! That is ridiculous! This used to be one of the best restaurants in the area! We are completely disgusted! I sure hope that someone is reading this. Also, the cashier does not wear any gloves when she is "preparing/boxing"all the food. The health department needs to be notified immediately! The majority of the time she is speaking Spanish with the kitchen staff in the back, and laughing and joking loud enough to be heard by all customers. There is a flag covering the doorway so you cannot see them preparing your food. Technically, the American flag is the actual "door" to the kitchen. They need to have a real door, maybe even remodel the place. A month ago, they had no air conditioning for almost two weeks straight! IT WAS UNBEARABLE!!! UNACCEPTABLE!!! ABSOLUTELY UNCALLED FOR!!! After seeing our last order, we lost our appetite! Not only was the meat not cooked completely, but we were missing some items and the rice looked disgusting! Unless they upgrade their management and staff, we are never going back! One thing that was very shocking also was seeing the cashier's "daughter/niece" working the cash register. That was totally unprofessional, and unless the "daughter" is on the payroll, NO ONE should be touching the cash register except for an EMPLOYEE!!! If she wants to teach a family member or friend how to use a cash register, they need to find employment somewhere else, and do that on her own time! I was craving takeout and after perusing Yelp for an unbearable amount of time, I chose Hunan Grill. I was craving Chinese (American) and really wanted Egg Foo Yung. My food came on time but...... They totally forgot to give me fried rice with my entree. The shrimp and broccoli gravy was good but the egg foo yung was oily and more like a tempura batter. Not what I like. The sauce that came with it was WAY WAY too salty and not the consistency of egg foo yung gravy. Would have rather had more of the shrimp and broccoli gravy. Overall it was MEH. Just to clarify something; if you order via UberEATS, it's often the DRIVER'S fault if your food is late. The app has a tracking feature that lets you see where your food is. If your driver is going round and round in circles (as mine was today) then it's no fault of this place - they don't employ the drivers. Anyway, despite having a late delivery myself, I had zero problems with the food once it arrived. The lunch specials are some of the cheapest on UberEATS if you get something vegetarian, so I got General Tso's Tofu with fried rice, veggie egg roll, and egg drop soup. Quality/taste is about what you'd expect for any Chinese-American place - but it's nice that you're able to choose your soup, level of spice (if applicable), and fried rice comes as standard rather than costing extra. For delivery, everything comes in a sturdy plastic container that can be washed and re-used. And that's inside a plastic bag, inside a paper bag - so even though my driver got lost it still arrived hot. So if you want your takeout fix, this is a solid choice. read more

I've ordered to-go three times and it's been on par every single time *tip* we did order it on favor once and had a snafu over whether we should have got white or fried rice. We made them go back to the store after hours to correct the order, so I suggest just calling in your order instead of going through Favor. The lo mein is to die for! It's embarrassing how much Hunan Garden we've enten over the past several years. :) Since we are ordering for 3 people, we always qualify for their grubhub coupons (usually 2 free vegetable egg rolls). My wife's fav is the Cheese Puffs and dumplings. I enjoy the Sesame Chicken and Kung Pao. We always get the Singapore Rice Noodles and hot & sour soup. There are several really good takeout/delivery places on this side of town, but Hunan Garden is who usually gets our delivery cash. I enjoyed this lunch. I ordered the lunch special sesame seed chicken, chicken on a stick, and fried dumplings... The dumplings had yummy filling, good sauce, but were barely fried. The chicken on a stick was good, had good flavor. and not too over powering. The sesame seed chicken was very good, I cannot compare it to other places because this was my first time ordering it...but I would order it again. The wonton soup that came with the lunch special was VERY good... two wontons and great broth. The spring roll...crispy and good flavor. While the food used to be great. It's gone downhill. Ordered the Combo Lo Mein (beef, chicken & shrimp) There was no beef in it at all. I got a side of fraudulent charges. They say the food will arrive in 30 minutes, but they always deliver it quicker than that. Over a span of several months, I haven't had even one single problem; the order is always correct when I get it. Scottish Chinese. The subject sounds hilarious, what the hell is a Scottish Chinese you might ask? It's awesome, that's what it is. I'm Scottish, and for around 12 months I've been looking for Chinese food that closely resembles Chinese take out from similar places we have in Scotland. This is the closest I've got. I swapped the sweet and sour for curry sauce with chicken balls. They also do fries. Their chicken lo mein is almost exact equivalent of central belt Scotland chicken chow mein. Their sesame chicken, is godlike. Everything comes with rice. Egg fried rice for 1 dollar extra. It's very reasonably priced compared to many other Chinese places. Delivery was super fast. Portions were very big. Food was extremely hot and PERFECTLY COOKED. I regularly get Chinese food which is way over cooked. This is not. This is perfect. Are you Scottish? Eat this food, while you're there, get down to HEB and pick up some Irn but to go along with it. Are you not Scottish? Eat this food. It's actually amazeballs. Hunan Garden had been my go-to for Chinese delivery for years now. I like their food, and they're usually very quick to deliver. However, I will not be ordering from them after tonight. I called and placed my order at 5:46, at 6:50, it still wasn't here, even though they said it would only be 30-40 minutes. When I called to check on my order the guy who answered the phone was very short with me; he said they were busy, and that my order would be another 20 minutes, and asked if that was okay. He did not apologize for being late, nor offer any kind of discount. Instead, he was rude to me. I asked if my food would be hot and fresh (it had been over an hour - who wants cold egg rolls?), at which point he asked if I wanted my food delivered, or if I wanted to cancel my order. I asked him again if my food would be hot and fresh. Instead of answering, he was rude again, and asked me if I wanted to cancel my order. I decided to try this place and so ordered my meal at 7:50 pm. The estimated delivery time was 8:45 pm. Alright cool. I eventually received my food at 10:05 pm. By then the food was luke warm. That's two stars down. My order consisted of general tsao chicken with combination lo mein (also known as house special lo mein - lo mein with shrimp, beef and chicken). The chicken pieces were big, and did not have a thick breaded layer which I appreciated, but it was dry - third star. The lo mein was okay, I was not impressed. I think if my order had arrived on time it may have tasted better, but since it was two hours late, my expectation of it was different. I did not receive duck sauce, but received only two soy sauce packets and a fortune cookie. I was not impressed, may not order here again for delivery. Edited to respond to Ms. Helen C.: Helen, thank you for your response. Hunan is located 13 minutes minutes away from my apartment, which is why, an hour delivery time was ok. When I called back for a time update, (which would've been a good time to share your delivery issues) an hour and a half was still long but fine, but two hours? Mind you, had I known from the get-go that delivery was going to be two hours late, I could've ordered and picked up the food or ordered elsewhere. If you, as a business owner see that you are unable to deliver by the ETA, then you should communicate that. Yes, it was raining, and some areas may have been flooded, but as the consumer, when I get an ETA, I'm thinking that the weather conditions are taken into consideration - which is why receiving my order an hour later was fine. I did not even complain when I called in and got an ETA of 9:25, then called in again to got another ETA at 9:45 p.m. Note I said I called in. Perhaps you should put a system in place that if you are going to be much later than the times you estimated, then you call your customers and let them know? Also, any time I order Chinese, I always get duck sauce WITHOUT asking for it, in rare cases I'd get mustard, and pepper. I did not think I'd have to ask for it with my order, but thank you for sharing that bit of info. My friend told me that they have really good Singapore Noodles so I was like I'll order from here. I ordered the shrimp fried rice and it was bland and the rice was a bit too soft. It has no flavor or taste and they didn't give enough soy sauce to add flavor to it. The portion was a nice size, they gave a lot of shrimp in the rice which was great but maybe they need to add garlic butter or soy sauce when they cook. read more
