I have heard nothing but great things about this place so I decided to try them out for lunch for myself just now. Ordered the Hunan Beef for the first time for the lunch that came with Hot and Sour Soup and the Eggroll which honestly tasted more better than the entree itself. The Fried Rice was good, veggies were decent, but the beef just did not sit well with me as it tasted very soft and moist and it wasn't tender enough. Even though this was my very first time there, they told me if I wanted something else or if I didn't like it I would have to pay for the other dish with the dish I had. No management on duty and the staff didn't seem to care about my issue. Sadly I think this was the first and most likely last time coming here. Even though it's super affordable based on the price, there's other great places out there I would go to with better customer service. read more

Ordered takeout Chinese food for NYE. I've been in search of finding good Chinese takeout like back on the east coast (IYKYK). The reviews for Hunan Inn seemed decent so wanted to give them a try. I ordered chicken lo mein, pupu platter, General Tso chicken, chicken wings, steamed shrimp and veggies. I'd give the food about 3/5 stars. I liked the General Tso chicken and the sauce. The lo mein wasn't very flavorful but I added the General Tso sauce on it and tastes pretty good combined. The crab rangoon barely had any inside filling like the size of a quarter so that was a bit disappointing as well. read more

I called in a to-go order at 3:55pm and thought I would pick it up soon after. Typical Houston, I got caught up in a wreck on I-10 and sat in traffic for an hour before I could get to Hunan. This restaurant understands Houston; and my food was hot and crispy and delicious! Even after an hour of them waiting on me, (which was my fault because I was stuck in traffic) the food was still delicious. My wife would order food for the board of directors of a company she worked at in that area. She took me there. We often go at lunch. We order general joes chicken which comes with rice. And two spring egg rolls to go. We sit out in the parking lot and enjoy the meal. It is definitely my go to place for Chinese food. My wife has tried to introduce me to Thai cuisine. It is good but it can't compare to hunan inn. read more

Food was good, hadn't been here in a while The place was nice and quiet. The times I've been to it usually has seniors dinning there The service wasn't great, the server wasn't the friendliest. She seemed impatient, not really wanting to take our order and wouldn't check on us. I've been coming to Hunan Inn for over 25 years. The food is amazing - the service is better than any place I have ever been! The dining room is small, but pleasant. It's worth the drive from Sugar Land - passing numerous Chinese restaurants on the way. I will recommend this place to EVERYONE! read more

I work in a the area and when it's time for my lunch, I order to go and by the time I get there, it's always ready or a few minutes from ready (I work really close by). Food is great. When you walk in the decor is a bit dated and the restaurant is dimly lit but please do not let that stop you! The food is bomb! The hubs and I decided to start with the bbq rib appetizer. I know what you are thinking, Who orders bbq ribs at a Chinese food restaurant? Lol. Let me tell you... they are good! That glaze really makes it! Our go to entree is the sesame chicken. This is the best sesame chicken I think I've ever had. The flavor is amazing!! If you only try one item, let this be it! You will find so many reviews on their sesame chicken because it's just that good! The best time to check this place out is lunch time. Lunch is daily until 4pm. Lunch specials are $7.25-$10 depending on what you choose. Each entree comes with an egg roll fried or steamed rice. We hadn't tried it in years but couldn't find a Chinese restaurant in the Memorial area that we like so we thought we'd give it one more try. My husband came home from picking up our order and said "I don't know if you're going to want to order from there again if you saw the place, nobody was in there, and it still just as rundown looking as it used to be." I took a few bites of our order, which was mooshoo pork, wonton soup, and one other item. I only ate two bites of each item and threw the rest away. The dumplings in the wonton soup are so thick... they were not the delicate wonton noodles that were used to. The Mushu pork...I bit into one bite and had to spit out a huge chunk of fat, and those few bites was very off putting I literally brushed my teeth to get the taste out of my mouth. Then a few hours later, my stomach got very upset and then...a few hours later my stomach became upset and I spent most of the night in the bathroom. I'm sorry to say, but we need a new restaurant in Memorial for Chinese food! Desperately! We will not be returning to Hunan ever again. read more

Let me preface this by saying I normally come here for lunch. The lunch specials are quick to eat serve fast and delicious. The staff has been there for years. They'll set you down quickly get your order and come back to get your food order. It's a fast pace, but they don't rush you. You have a choice of hot and sour , egg drop or wonton soup when you eat in for the lunch special there are many entrée choices. You could have white rice, fried rice or noodles and an egg roll. I normally get general so tofu or chicken depending on my feeling and I get it extra spicy. I enjoy the shrimp with lobster sauce on a cold dreary day. Table service was average. The business is run down with grimy stained carpeting and the walls pealing. The staff doesn't speak much English and didn't understand that we wanted to split our dish for two. They offered plates for only one person before scurrying away; which is strange as there are more wait staff than customers. The Family Delight was really just a few shrimp and meat in a canned soy/ingredient mixture; pretty much below par. The place looks run down from its grimy carpeting to peeling walls. There is one corner that the staff puts anything they don't know what to do with; pretty ugly. Parking is easy. I won't be back. read more

I didn't expect too much when a place has an $8 lunch special but I was pleasantly surprised. Good sized portion of General Tso's Chicken with fried rice, an egg roll and cup of wonton soup. The food was all quite tasty and they kept my water full. The power went out at one point, thankfully after my food came out, and the windows provided enough light. They must have had a battery backup as the computer was still on and they were able to process credit cards. Overall, I'm pretty impressed with this place and will come back for sure. read more

We have general tso , Hunan beef, and orange chicken, the orange chicken was the most flavorful. The general tso chicken was supposed to be spicy but it was just saucy. Honestly I've been coming here for years, I won't lie I get the same thing just about every single time lol my sesame chicken with fried rice and an egg drop soup! Yum! Every once in a blue moon I will order the beef and string beans also with an egg drop soup! The egg rolls are wonderful since I don't eat pork! And the staff is lovely, at least to us lolololol it's a quiet hole in the wall, and we love it! I call in an order and I say 'medium spicy'. The person says the order back and says 'mild'. I repeat 'medium spicy' and she says it back. I get the order and take it home and it says 'mild' and tastes mild. First time, last time. Hot and sour soup tasted weird. Kung Pao chicken was some random version they seemed to make up. Delicious! I used to frequent this place years ago before I started doing reviews. They've still got it! The atmosphere is a little dark, but that doesn't personally bother me. It's a good mood setting when you want quiet time. Classical music plays overhead and it's a nice escape from hustle and bustle of every day. The service is fantastic. My tea was never below 1/2 full. I started with the eggdrop soup which was very good. For my entree, I had the sesame chicken with fried rice. The meal comes with an eggroll. Everything was wonderful. That's probably the best sesame chicken I've ever had! The eggroll is perfectly fried and crispy. I forgot why this place was a favorite of mine so many years ago. Glad I visited today. The dining area is small, with about 12-13 tables. It gets busy during the lunch rush. I went for a late lunch and thoroughly enjoyed this almost forgotten gem. I miss the fun placemats they used to have on the tables. "Year of the" rabbit, dog, sheep, etc. They were fun to read, but they no longer have those. The restaurant is very Chinese decorated. This is going to sound so out of character because I've never experienced anything like this.. I lived in the memorial area my entire life and never have seen this restaurant.. over the past six months my mom and I have eaten there about 12 times and each time I thought it was going to get better. I'm not talking about the food. I'm talking about the women that worked there... we've never been treated like we are welcome from the very beginning. This woman had a problem with us and for some reason every time we go in, it's the same woman serving us. I'm not looking to get my ass kissed just regular service and I never leave their happy or impressed with the quality of service. You can look back at my other reviews and see that I don't write reviews like this. Maybe just one at the Fork in Dallas but this is so different... granite the restaurant itself is totally outdated, but the food is good. The service just sucks and then there were some other people of the same nationality of the waitress that came in and they were so Kissy Kissy with them. It was just weird. I will never request to go there, but my mom loves it. She feels the same way that I do about the service. It's just totally offputting when you want to enjoy a meal, but you're treated like you shouldn't even be there like you're inconveniencing them by taking up a table. i'm not going to beg to be treated properly. It starts at the head. The woman that checks you out is not friendly either. This is a no-frills Chinese restaurant, yes... but shouldn't everyone be kind especially when you're handing over your hard earned cash? Side bar- yelp asked "oh no! What could have improved?" I used to frequent this restaurant quite a bit a decade or so ago, when my daily path was markedly different than it is today, but I was by there recently with my son, and decided to see if the food was as good as I fondly remembered. Well, it was wonderful. We each had a different lunch special, chicken with vegetable and Special Lo Mein. He added egg drop soup and I added hot & sour soup. Both meals were substantial portions, and absolutely delicious. Very crispy vegetables seemed like they were just prepared, not sitting waiting on us to show up. Hot & sour soup was yummy, just like I remembered. For the amount of food, and the "yumminess" of the food, the price was surprisingly reasonable. Service was awesome, very prompt but not pushy and very friendly. The same lady from years ago was efficiently working the cashier and answering the phone for the many to-go orders. The inside is a bit dated... exactly as it was arranged years ago. However the place was clean and tidy. I was there for the food, not the ambiance. I'll go back every time I'm in the area.
