I went here the last 3 times, the lady is super nice, super friendly, always with a smile on her face, food is good, I lived around the area, this will be my Chinese to go spot. But this time I went, a short old guy, I placed my to go order, paid. I asked may I have some hot oil sauce on the side, his face look like I'm asking him for his kidney. I'm like is there a charge? He said yes. But we can put it onto the noodle I ordered for free. What??? What's the different you put it on the side or put it into the noodle? I'm like no. I mean most Chinese restaurants will give it to you free of charge, I'm not asking for a whole bucket, is tiny little cup, I know all Chinese restaurants have it, they use if on some of the dishes. But charge me for it? Hell no He can easily say we charge for it, but I give it to you this time, next time we charge with a smile, I'm happy to accept that. Not that I'm being cheap, is the way he sigh and give me the look, like MF how much this shit cost? Seriously? Pretty tiny place in a strip mall. And pretty standard Chinese strip mall food, not amazing, but good. A few interesting things on the menu, which I'd like to try next time. This time I just got a lunch special: my usual comparison item, Mongolian beef. Lots of tender beef, lots of onions and green onions, sided with good fried rice. I added an eggroll which was fairly good, nothing special. Low prices, good food, good service. I've now gotten take-out here twice and it's reasonably priced, you can tell it's fresh and I've enjoyed everything I've eaten. I moved to Polaris this summer and I'm always looking for my local go-to for all the cuisine genres and I think I found my new Chinese spot. I love wonton soup, especially when it comes with the wax packet of crispy fried noodles. I don't ever get them anymore it seems, but at Hunan J, you can order them a la carte. I've gotten 2 packets so I can have some later in the week as "croutons" in a chicken and sesame slaw salad I make. I ordered Szechuan broccoli tonight too because I was craving some green veggies. Perfectly done (a little crisp still, not overdone & mushy) and you could tell they used fresh. It had carrots and baby corns for variety & color too--fun! Since it was Szechuan-style it was annotated as *HOT* on the menu. I love spicy food, but rarely do I receive things from a Chinese restaurant that are actually *HOT* as described unless I stress my need for spicy. This broccoli had just the right mix of flavor and spice. It will also definitely be tasty leftover too. My ultimate favorite American Chinese takeout meal is Spicy Garlic Chicken & Eggplant which it didn't look like they had. I'm bummed about that, but it's given me to opportunity to try new things! Last visit they gave me a handful of fortune cookies. None tonight. It's okay, we're living in a pandemic and they hooked me up with extra hot mustard packets so I'm a happy gal! read more

We were visiting Columbus, OH during Christmas, 2023 - where my wife and daughter spent two years living here 20 years ago. We stayed at a hotel over Christmas Eve and did not have the resources to cook by ourselves. Fortunately, we were able to find this restaurant, which opened on Christmas Eve. When we arrived at this restaurant, we found 4-5 groups of people already waiting there. The lady greeting people was very friendly. She reminded us that they were not going to provide dining in service on Christmas eve. So everyone in the line were picking up their dishes for Christmas. The environment at this place was average, a little Chinese restaurant. The food was delicious. We all liked their fried shrimp! The price for their dishes was at or below average. We go here weekly to eat and chill. They also do a ton of takeout. A great place to stop in and eat if you are dining alone. This is my favorite Chinese takeout place in Polaris. The location is great, the food is tasty, and the owners are so nice! I also feel like the price is great for the amount of food you get. My go-to order is beef and broccoli with white rice. The beef is always delicious and seasoned well, and the broccoli is very fresh. I also recently tried the rice noodles for the first time and loved them. They're super yummy and I like the consistency and size of them better than lo mein, which is typically a thicker noodle. I'll also mention that whenever I order takeout it's ready in almost no time at all (always less than 15 minutes, sometimes even less than 10). Overall, Hunan J is a great choice for Chinese in the Polaris area and I'll definitely keep coming back for more! read more

On my first visit here, I ordered the House Pad Thai... It has chicken, shrimp, and beef. Cooked with egg, thin rice noodles, bean sprouts, scallions, carrot in Thai sauce. Ohhh so good... mind you, not the best I've ever had, but definitely passed my taste test!! They seem to do a lot of takeout here... The menu offers a mix of Hunan and Szechwan, Mandarin as well as Thai. Been here so many times now, I've tried so many different items and I'm ALWAYS very pleased with everything!!! Always great service, always fresh food, and always oh soooooo good!!! Oh yeah, and huge portions... How could I forget about that... I've only been here twice, but plan on making it a ritual. I stop here for dinner before our Tuesday night monthly Arbonne meeting at Little Bear Golf Course. The staff is very friendly and it's a nice little place! The thing is....it's NEVER been busy the times I've been here. I have seen lots of people come through the door for pick-up. The first thing I tried was the General Tso's chicken! It was AMAZING!! None of that fatty, soggy chicken! This was white meat and was VERY flavorful! Not overdone or overcooked either! Another great small, hole in the wall Asian eatery tucked away in strip center off a busy part of Old State Road that has been on my "to try" neighborhood radar. I stopped in for a late lunch and was the only person in this small but comfortable restaurant. Even going in as late I still was able to order from their lunch specials that go until 3:30pm each day. My order was promptly taken and I was delivered a wonderful hot rich bowl of their egg drop soup. And after a short wait my order of sesame chicken was presented. Large juicy pieces of white meat, fried tempura style with a sweet sesame sauce, veggies and paired with a good portion of their house friend rice. The menu here covers most of the usual Amer-Asian favourites plus they offer some Thai specialties. For the most part this place seems to be a great small dine-in/take-out/delivery neighborhood Asian restaurant and well worth checking out if you're the area. Definitely worth the price of the food!!! I always order from the lite menu and the portion sizes are huge! I usually get dinner and at least two lunches from my portion! If you ask for low sodium soy sauce, it will come in a cup with a lid (if you order to go) but the lid will stay on. Don't forget to ask for the duck sauce or chop sticks.
