Ordered wonton soup was not really hot when it was brought to the table. Got the Happy family and it was okay. Not as good as usual had a different taste. The shrimp in it was rather hard. Also, ordered the Chang Sha shrimp (deep fried shrimp in some honey chef sauce) the shrimp was so hard you could not cut it with a fork. So I told the waitress and she brought me another plate of it , but the shrimp was very dry again ($20). Egg rolls used to be good but now they are different some combo meat mix is in them. Hunan Manor just had their soft re-opening with new chefs and their new dim sum brunch service might just be my new go-to spot in the area! You can immediately taste the difference - everything is freshly made and flavorful. My favorite dim sum dish is the shrimp rice noodle rolls and these were a standout here -- the noodles were thin but still soft, with a smooth texture that wasn't sticky or gummy. My next favorite is the pineapple custard bun and these were yummy -- the top had that nice, thick, crunchy crust you want (like a cookie) with a rich custard inside! They also had bubble tea and fruit teas, which are a nice and refreshing addition to dim sum! They have ample free parking and their entryway lives up to its name - really transports you to an ancient Chinese manor! The space is also large and open, with many different sections - would be great for hosting events, family gatherings, or big group meals while still having some privacy. Service was warm and attentive even during their soft opening, and the whole experience feels like a big step up for Hunan Manor. The owners also stopped by to check in to get feedback. No gluten free information on the menu. Waitress spoke little English. I asked her about gluten in food, she didn't seem to know what it was. I asked to speak to the chef, she declined. I told her I could not order anything if I didn't know it was gluten free. She said OK and allowed me to sit there with my party of 14 with an empty plate while they ate. Never had that happen in a restaurant before. The food seems to be a mix of authentic ethnic food and some Americanized versions. Some in my party liked it and some didn't. read more

The actual worst Chinese food I've ever had. Ordered wonton soup, beef and broccoli chow fun and chicken Lo mein. The soup was warm water with a few drops of soy sauce and two thick flavorless wontons. The beef and broccoli chow fun was covered in a snot like brown sauce. The noodles were clumped, gooey and completely over cooked. The chow mein was uneventful and again, the noodles were overcooked. The service: like we were inconveniencing a family member. Overall, this is the last place I'd ever want to come again. A complete waste of money. I wish they would have just told us they were closing early. The upside: We went to Taco Bell on the way home. 1.16.24 Came in for lunch today as hubby had a hankering for hot wonton soup during this cold and snowy day. Unfortunately instead of hot, he got cold wonton soup and tea. Not to mention the restaurant and restroom was freezing cold. They must have wanted to cut down on the electric bill. My husband also ordered egg rolls and said that was the highlight for him. I ordered the shredded beef off the lunch menu, but instead of Szechuan style, got it in brown sauce. The beef was not tender and a bit chewy. I would have preferred more sauce on it. My lunch came with a spring roll and white rice, which were good. Although there are awards that adorn the walls, there are not any in recent years. IMO, the quality has gone down. While the food and service is not bad, please be aware of a disturbing charging phenomenon. The bill at bottom lists 3 optional tip percentages, which is not all that new, but what is astounding, the bill included a tip amount I the customer did not select. In short, the restaurant included a tip charge in the bill, some $25.00. How a tip, traditionally something the customer voluntarily pays based on how well the customer assesses the restaurant's pleasantness, suddenly becomes a charge is a fantastic affront to me the customer. The worst food I have ever had . We had a pick up order for dinner and I called to explain the problem and issue and the lady hangs up On my face on the food. We do carry out all the time from different Chinese locations and we wanted to see what everybwas talking about this amazing Chinese restaurant in the area. We order orange chicken and General Tao chicken. Got home and found a piece of hair and the sauce to chickens the worst we have ever had. There is no flavor and dry food . I called to talk to someone about it and the lady yelled at me and told me out of respect I needed to bring the food back so they can look at it. I explain to her kindly that I will be out of town for the next four days and that I couldn't do that and she said that there was no choice. I told her that is right to have to try something 5 days old And then them warming it up . That really isn't healthy and is probably something health department wouldn't want you do . This is probably the best Chinese restaurant to go to if your family is vegetarian. The portion sizes are huge, they have both tofu and mock meat dishes and will modify dishes like Singapore noodles to be vegan if you request. I especially love their sweet potato leaf with garlic dish, which is not something you can find at just any Chinese restaurant. read more

Very sorry to see the decline of this once excellent restaurant. Twenty years ago, Hunan Manor was the best Chinese restaurant in Howard County. Something has changed (ownership/ management??). Today it's no longer the Hunan Manor that won so many awards. The menu has changed, and the style of the cooking is different too. I've noticed this over several visits over the past months. Today had Kung Pow Chicken, and it was so sugary sweet, coated with soggy sauce as to be inedible. Service while pleasant was haphazard (never asked if I needed a refill, how food was etc, slow to provide the bill). Sorry to say that I probably will not return. I Always enjoy coming here with my colleagues. The food is fresh and vegan options abound. You have the choice of traditional Chinese food & the Americanized Chinese. The hosts are always pleasant and the portions are generous. The setup is a mix of booths and tables. The restaurant can accommodate larger groups and does allow for family style sharing (rotating tables available). The hostess was able to let us know the time frame for our entrees being served today and that helped with the wait time. I've never had takeout so I can't speak to any of the service there. You order your favorite dish and never know exactly what you will get. Take out is usually just luke warm when we drive the one minute home from the restaurant. (The amount of takeout traffic lightly confirms this ) The service was good as well, I could tell the waiter was a bit overwhelmed with the holiday traffic, but he handled it pretty well... though my order initially came out incorrect (the pork piece in my pics), he quickly provided me with fresh rice to make sure everything was warm. I would have loved more insight on the adjustments or changes for things to be gluten free...but since my first question got an unsure answer, I went with a meal where I didn't have questions. I appreciate that the restaurant is large, but segmented so it feels smaller and you don't feel lost in a sea of diners. While they have many items that cater to Americans, they also had pretty good dishes that are authentic. 4 stars for the Peking duck, shrimp toast, and hot & sour soup. The duck skin was crispy, and the meat was not overcooked. The shrimp toast was tasty even without sauce, and the hot & sour soup was pretty sour (just how I like it). 3 stars for the crispy eggplant. Didn't care too much for the eggplant part but the way it was cooked and the seasoning on it was pretty delicious. 2 stars for the egg foo young and seafood pan fried noodles. They use a thick noodle for their pan fried noodles, totally messes up the texture and taste. I already knew the egg foo young wasn't for me... but someone else at our table wanted me to try it. The egg part is very thick, and it is covered in gravy. This seems like an American Chinese dish. Our waiter was excellent and the food was prepared very quickly. read more

This place is a cornerstone of Columbia but based on some recent reviews, they may have crumbled over the past few years. After not going here for a decade,to decided to try it again because you just can't find decent Chinese food around here. The spicy tangy wontons are amazing. My husband loved his Shrimp Hunan Style. I selected the Double Cooked Pork and the carryout version was nearly enough for three meals and very tasty. Since we have moved to Elkridge, Hunan Manor is out of our way but I'll be making a point to go there again soon in the near future. read more

Owners changed and after three more tries, I've given up and will never return. I'm sad that this place won't last. 1. Food was terrible: their famous supreme crispy egg plant is now soggy average eggplant. It's over battered and felt like I was eating a microwaved old deep fried eggplant. It's always a feast whenever we come here. Love the variety of dishes they have and the quick service! Everything has come out tasty and cooked to perfection but we especially enjoy the whole cooked fish and the fried rice with dried fish. Their sesame and orange chicken also use white meat which is nice and not too sweet overall. Veggies are always cooked just right, still green, and a hefty portion.
