Bland and deceiving. We ordered 2 beef egg rolls, pad Thai and General Tso chicken. These are standard dishes that are being offered at any Chinese restaurant (ok, maybe not pad Thai). The egg rolls were packed with cabbage. After a couple of bites we decided to break open the rolls and I kid you not, all we saw was cabbage no ground beef whatsoever. The pad Thai was bland and so was the General Tso chicken. I was hoping to pack any leftovers for work lunch but they went into the trash instead. Needless to say we were super disappointed with the dinner and a waste of our money. Hunan Diamond, did you change your chef? I don't think this person believes in flavoring their food. read more

Preferred the general tso's slightly more - it was little more savory than sweet though tbh they tasted very similar lol. For ~14$ per dish, got a TON of food including one huge egg roll. Food didn't blow my mind but it was generally tasty. Their lunch deal is definitely worth it, for how cheap it is / the amount of food you get / the taste. I used to live close to this place and so we would order from here frequently. I definitely think this place is the tastiest Chinese-American food in the Columbia area. It's very much a casual takeaway place but everything I've had from here is phenomenal. Sometimes I find myself craving their pan fried dumplings which are perfect and juicy. We would usually get their hot crisp beef which is also phenomenal. Other highlights I can think of off the top of my head are the beef and broccoli and the kung pow chicken, fried rice and any of the noodle dishes, but I feel like everything I've had from this place is delicious. One of the few places around here that I will go far out of my way to pick up food from. I do wish I still lived closer to this place. read more

I really enjoy Hunan Diamond's food, and they have one of the best wonton soups around! My favorite dish is the chicken and cashews, but recently they changed the ingredients. It used to come with water chestnuts in it (which I LOVED) and now they swapped them out for carrots. It's a huge bummer because the carrots (which I don't eat) take up about 1/3 of the dish, so I feel like I'm not getting my money's worth. I understand having to cut costs where you can, but for me the change in ingredients makes this dish not worth ordering anymore. read more

This place is alright in my book, my husband was really excited about the portion sizes. We ordered house fried rice that was good and had lots of shrimp as did all our food. Kung pow chicken that did not have vegetables and was not spicy but I actually liked it. Pad Thai was was kinda bland but they gave us loads of it. And we got steam rice that we did not order so that was cool. Thanks. Literally had leftovers for 3 days. We will be coming back to try more food. Oh and the lady at the register was super nice!!!! The owners are friendly. The eating area is small and unclean. The restroom is unclean. The food is thrown together and the vegetables are not washed first. Some dishes taste OK so two star. We had a live insect in our vegetables and were told the food comes like that. read more

Thought I give it a try since this place got 4 stars. I got wonton soup and chicken broccoli. First off, if you eat a lot of rice, you know this is old rice but not sure how long it had been but considering it was lunch, it shouldn't have been that long unless it was the day before. I am Asian and live off rice, this was not good rice. 2nd, extra greasy. Chicken and broccoli should not be greasy. Wontons we're ok but broth was not good. I'm surprised that there aren't more reviews for this restaurant! It's a takeout Chinese place and everything I've tried has been really good and I'm really picky when it comes to Chinese food. It's definitely your typical greasy take-out Chinese food but everything is tasty. If you're looking for good Americanized Chinese food this is a great choice. The white meat General tsos chicken is really good and my favorite thing the spicy tangy wontons. They are dumpling style wontons swimming in a really unique sauce. I also really like the steamed dumplings and the lo mein is always good. The prices are great. I've tried a bunch of Chinese restaurants in Columbia and I haven't been that excited about them. This place has been my go-to for years, but....the last two times I've gotten food from then it's just been kind of sad. Unrelievedly sweet and sticky and not very flavorful. Like, I'm suspicious my General Tso's and my garlic broccoli had the same sauce on them, and there didn't seem to be any garlic involved. Seldom do I write reviews, however I do feel the need to warn other unsuspecting customers. I will preface by saying that I haven't had any other menu items besides the Honey Sesame shrimp. For all I know the other dishes may be fantastic but unfortunately I got the honey sesame shrimp. The shrimp was a very minuscule part of the actual dish itself. Majority of the dish was the overbearing sweet sauce and the breading which was twice the size of the actual itself. Not only was the shrimp very small compared to the breading itself, but the shrimp was very dry and over cooked. Never do I write negative reviews however if you need to order from here then I do not suggest ordering the honey sesame shrimp. The ingredients were fresh and dishes were cooked well, not too oily but with great flavor. A plus is that they had my favorite cream cheese crab wontons ( aka crab rangoons) which were also really good. Also noticed other customers ordering and they are able to adjust to taste, ie spicier or more mild, or with substitutes, which is a plus. This is not a full service restaurant but there are enough tables there to sit if you want to dine. Minimalistic decor but clean and comfortable. Columbia/Ellicott city is a total Chinese food desert. There's a restaurant every 4 miles but they're all AWFUL. I thought I'd finally found an oasis at Hunan Diamond because I like their hot 'n sour soup and the lo mein is pretty good. But last time I ordered, I got the "special" curry beef stew over rice and it was a joke. It was totally flavorless, not even a hint of curry. It was a maybe a half a cup of beef and like 10 cups of white rice. There were precisely six broccoli florets thrown in purely for decoration. The beef was practically all gristle. it was obvious they were trying to sell some leftover beef trimmings. So unfortunately what I thought would be our go-to Chinese take out turned out to be a major disappointment. I wish you luck in finding great Chinese in the area. We went there because we were meeting a family member halfway to Baltimore and this location seemed like a good compromise. I guess we would have preferred more of a Chinese restaurant rather than what is mostly a take-out business. The ladies did try hard to please. The food was just fine. It was served in take-out containers and they did give us each a Styrofoam plate and plastic knife and fork. The good thing was when we wanted to take some leftovers home, they were already in take-out containers, all we need was a bag to put them in. The average dish was $12 to $13 which is high for a purely take-out place. It would have been nice to pay those prices and be in a nice sit-down table-clothed restaurant with real plates and silverware. We'll be back for take-outs next time. read more
