This place is a little odd to start because they have a full Chinese menu and lunch buffet, but they also have a full sushi bar. They have a famed all you can eat sushi special for lunch and dinner. I'll admit, I was extremely skeptical about an all-you-can-eat sushi experience. My fiance had heard from some friends it was good and after some coaxing I agreed to go. Now I'm a huge fan. The sushi special is around $18 a person and you can order off a huge sushi menu. I've had sushi at every restaurant in Springfield and I'm thoroughly satisfied with the quality of fish and variety. This place is so difficult to review because it is wildly inconsistent. There was one visit followed by a vow never to return, but who the hell can argue with ALL YOU CAN EAT sushi for $18? The caveat is that if you don't eat all you order, it's $2 per piece. Ouch. When it's one of those visits where there is a competent sushi chef present, no problem. I can easily tuck away 30 pieces of sushi. No joke. But on the off-chance it's no good, that really adds up. I have actually resorted (on one occasion) to wrapping the ten pieces of inedible dragon roll in napkins, stuffing them in my bag, and discreetly sneaking them off the the toilet where they met their demise. I've never eaten anything but the sushi here, so I can't speak for the Chinese food. Hunan is definitely a gamble. All I really wanted was hot tea and chicken soup, because I have a cold. We checked on Yelp and found this restaurant and decided to give it a try. The staff was friendly, but I felt they had language problems that prevented complete understanding of our needs. I suggested to my husband that we order a dish of stir fried broccoli. My husband said we didn't need to, as the orange chicken was described as having broccoli in it. The waitress said they only put in broccoli if the customer wanted it. We wanted it. The soup, pot stickers, and chicken came all at the same time. The food was good, but the hot Chinese mustard I requested never came. When the bill came, we were charged $1 for broccoli in our chicken dish. It wasn't the dollar; it was the principle. They removed the charge, saying the new menus don't have broccoli listed in the orange chicken, and agreeing that we were given old menus. The cashier also muttered something about everything coming at once was her fault. If we lived here, perhaps we'd give them another try. But, we don't. read more

The food here is your typical Asian cuisine. Average. The sushi is good but don't do the all you can eat! We were told forcefully by our waiter NOT to share our sushi. I understand that some may abuse the "all you can eat" by only have one person order, but we were sharing all of our food in general. The waiter was very short with us and barely came back to refill our waters. They also charge you $1 for every piece of sushi you don't eat if you do the all you can eat special. For sushi in Springfield, this place has to be the best. I know a lot of the other reviewers haven't had the Chinese lunch and dinner menus, but I have, so I can say it is very good as well. We went with a party of around 8 people; everyone was served at the same time, the food was great, and the service was superb. The crab rangoon at Hunan is fantastic! And as far as the sushi goes, I agree with the other reviewers; the selection is good and the chefs are experts. Just be ready for a wait on busy nights. read more

There are very few places to get good sushi in Springfield. I would say that Osaka, Pao or Hunan are the only ones that have consistently good sushi. However, Hunan is the only place to offer an all you can eat buffet for only $18 dollars. That will barely get you 12 pieces at Pao or Osaka! I have gone for unlimited sushi probably 30 times over the last 5 years and have never been disappointed. The environment is a little tacky looking and at times, certain members of my party have gotten food way earlier or later than others, but I have to give Hunan 5 stars for their sushi. Poor service food quality has gone down hill. Ordered all you can eat sushi, was able to get one plate in 45 mins. The dishwasher/busboy was waiting on us and was also making sushi. He was also walking around with disposable gloves on never changed them after clearing table. Then the cashier/waitress finally came for drink refills , it was more than 25 mins we waited to try and order another set of rolls. I refused to pay the full price for both meals, we we're disgusted by the quality of the rolls and there was brown dried up lettuce in them. Never again this place is horrible now. My daughter and I were there a few weeks ago. Very disappointing! Hardly nothing on the menu, food was cold, very small portions and the waitress was very hard to understand. She didn't come around to check on us and refill drinks and it took forever to get our ticket. They were not busy at all. The old Hunan was excellent. The thing that separates this from some of the massive all-you-can-eat "Chinese Buffets" that dot the area is that the quality of the fish is quite high and the sushi chefs are skilled. Definitely in the running for Springfield's best sushi, and the only all-you-can-eat option as far as I know. Personally, I think the fact that they charge you extra if you don't eat everything you order is a great idea. If they didn't do that I'm sure they'd have to add $5 or more to the price since far too many people would over-order. I got sesame chicken and my bf got general tzo's. The sauces on them were fine but the pieces of chicken were gross. Mostly fat, not cooked the way most chinese chicken entrees are. The egg rolls that came with the meals were disgusting and they don't give an option to get something else instead. I had fried rice, which was edible but nothing spectacular. The sushi here is pretty disgusting, it tasted old. And the $1 per piece left over is absurd. When you pick 2 $5 sushi and end up paying 12$ plus a dollar for whatever is left. I could get way better sushi down the road. But they had a good lunch buffet, they just need to replenish the food more often. We have a hard time finding good Chinese food, but this place is pretty good. The quality of the chicken meat is good. We usually get chick egg foo young, broccoli & chic, and orange or sesame chic. The crab Rangoon is the sweet kind- and delicious. They have PORK & shrimp egg rolls which are hard to find in a lot of Chinese restaurants when traveling around the country. They are good too-not tiny and not spring roll like. The steamed dumplings are pretty good too. It's a little pricier compared to the cheaper places but it is good- we keep coming back. If anyone has suggestions for other good Chinese restaurants in Springfield please let me know! Want to try others. read more
