Absolutely love this place. I often come here with family for birthdays or other special occasions. First off the food is very good. The staff is always very helpful and the hibachi chefs are alway fun and energetic. I don't think I've ever had a long wait, the chefs are always right on top of it. Occasionally I will have to wait on drink refills. The ambiance is great, although it can get loud and be hard to talk to people that aren't right next to you. To visit my son and my daughter-in-law and we decided to go to Osaka, which I've been there before, but I just have to remark on the exceptional chef that we had he really took the time to the details in what we ordered and on top of that the food was delicious. No, I'm from Laporte Indiana and close to me. There is a Japanese restaurant by the name of House of Kobe. It's good, but it does not have the flavor that Osaka has. I ordered via DoorDash. The online menu has a "special options" request for each item ordered. I asked for two soft shell crab orders. Under the "special options", I requested a hand roll for each crab. I also asked for wasabi and ginger. Not only we're the requests ignored, but the tender soft shell crabs were encased in a very thick batter usually used for larger pieces of seafood. After peeling half of the batter from the crabs, the only pieces edible were the bodies; the legs were fried to nothingness. I was planning to hold a celebratory dinner at Osaka, but I'm confident that there are better places in Springfield to dine. read more

Should have known better...a Japanese Teppan-Yaki in Springfield??? Visiting for the weekend so we said, "hey, let's try it." Being vegan there were things that we could substitute or omit so that part was fine. "Taste" on the other hand was another story. Nothing about this place was authentic. Except the show they put on while cooking your food. But I've seen better. But the kids loved the show and they give you a lot of food!!! Not good tasting food, just a lot of food. Start off with water n mushroom "soup". Literally water with a few floating mushrooms. Not even sure there was salt in it. Salad had a cream sauce (mayo maybe) so I didn't try it but it was just some packaged salad with greens, shredded red cabbage, shredded carrots...u know the kind. With a slice of tomato n dressing. We sat at a table/grill right by the "service station" which was basically a rolling cart with the grey buckets that they clear the tables with after guests leave. Why they sat us there when the whole place was empty is beyond me. Not great. If u want the whole cooking show go somewhere that has a good show AND good food to go along with it. Updating my review since its consistently been poor every time I've been. My most recent trip was with my aunt, uncle and cousin. My aunt and uncle are a little extra and ordered their boat but they go there all the time and seem to be known amongst the staff. My experience was that I ordered some food for my son, some sashimi and a roll for myself. They brought me my sashimi and subsequently everyone else's food at the table, including the boat. And then I waited. And waited. Until it became evident that my food was not on its way. So I asked the server and she apologized and said it wasn't put in? Ok. NBD. Can we put it in? Sure! 20 minutes later, my roll is finally about to come out. Everyone is finished eating and I ask for a box. We went on a Monday night for Father's Day and 2 birthdays. There were 9 of us, my husband, myself and our 7 kids. This is a very expensive meal for us so we don't go often. I want to start by saying our waiter was excellent. The food was great. But, the person that brought the salad was very rude. Some of us don't like the dressing. The salad was brought before we ordered so we didn't have a chance to request no dressing. He did not appreciate that. We placed our orders. My daughter ordered the vegetarian option. She got half the noodles the rest of us got and only half the vegetables. She left hungry. 5 of our children are allergic to meat. So, I asked the chef to give the extra rice to a certain kid. He did not do that. The chef gave us the yum yum sauce but didn't even offer the ginger sauce. The show was, by far, not the greatest. I watched the same chef at a different table later and he did a lot more than he did for us. I believe when you add the 18% gratuity the staff doesn't work as hard. It angers me that you add it to large parties. We never tip less than 20%. But, we don't add more when it is included in the cost of the meal. If you want to make sure your employees get paid enough then raise your prices for everyone and don't expect tips. It was apparent to me that the service was not near as good when they knew they were getting the tips. We won't be going back again. read more

My fiancé and I both had sushi rolls and liked them but we were not telling others about our experience or rushing back any time soon. The service was fine and I had a few cocktails that I thought were a bit overpriced but nothing for me to really go off about. To be fair she prefers Osaka over Kiku, but I prefer Kiku over Osaka. The food was pretty good, so my review score is entirely based on the service. We called ahead and made a reservation for 7pm but we were not seated until 7:30pm. We sat and watched are hostess seat people before us that arrived after us. So around 7:15... of course we asked when we would be seated. The hostess who was seating us was incredibly rude about it. She didn't like the fact that we asked. She huffed and puffed and shouted "Fine just follow me!" When she brought us to our seating area she threw the silverware and napkins on the table and stormed off. I tried Hibachi, Katsu, and Sushi here. Overall, Osaka was alright, but nothing out of this world. Hibachi- The Hibachi was incredibly salty...for someone who loves salty food. I thought my hibachi chef was a little generous with the salt at first, but the guy sitting next to me said the same thing about his (and he had a different chef). The Hibachi was a fun experience, though. Katsu- I was so disappointed with the Chicken Katsu I ordered to-go. I received an ENORMOUS pile of breaded fried chicken over rice (yum yum!) but couldn't find the katsu sauce anywhere. Either they didn't put it in my bag or this restaurant does not do katsu sauce. What is katsu without the katsu sauce?! As a result, I essentially ate fried chicken with rice. Bleh. The sushi here is hit or miss. There are some fun combinations, some more successful than others.
