The atmosphere was just ok and they did use some of the booths as storage But there wasn't a single thing that we didn't enjoy and will definitely be back. Well, one thing. It is an off the menu lunch special. Prices were good, $14 for sweet and sour pork, egg flower soup and fried rice. The decor was a little outdated orientalist. The service was very cordial. However the meal was sub par for an of the menu Chinese restaurant. read more

Came here for lunch the other day and I'm not really understanding the hype at all. I get it, some of the best Chinese food out there comes from nondescript strip malls, inside restaurants with zero atmosphere . Hunan *looks* like it could be one of those hidden gems, but after trying a couple of the lunch specials, it's really not. Two lunch specials, two soft drinks, and a side of crab puffs came out to like 50 bucks, which is pretty bonkers, especially when there was something to dislike about virtually bite. Our appetizer had great flavor but was still ice cold in the middle. The lunch specials don't even come with an egg roll, and that's stingy, but I'll admit the egg drop soup was decent. The fried rice was the saltiest I've been served in recent memory, like it was absolutely doused in soy sauce. And my sesame chicken wasn't a bunch of bite sized pieces of chicken, but a total of six gigantic pieces. The batter was too thick, so every bite was gummy instead of a little crispy. At the end of the day it's just not that good, and you can find better midday meals in quite a few places around town. read more

Best general tso's in town. Most places have that breaded chicken which can be great but not when it sits and gets mushy and has a rubbery texture. They have diced, fried but not breaded chicken deliciousness!! Good amount of veggies too. Egg drop soup very good too. Fried rice just ok. Fried wontons just ok. But most of their food is superb and large portions. Ambiance is typical Chinese restaurant in Arizona but sometimes that's exactly what you want and they have that vibe. Staff is very friendly and attentive and just overall nice. They seem to be happy working there and it shows. Nice little place if you want decent Chinese with large portions and friendly service. I love coming here. We frequent the east side but this is just as good!we got the dinner deal for about $19 which included hot tea, soup, choice of rice and one entree. I got the shrimp entree for a little extra but it's always worth it. The ppl that run this place are always nice. There were 2 ppl and it got kind of busy, but they stayed on top of everything and made sure we had everything we needed. It's always warm and welcoming here, it's never a miss. I'm confused. So many ratings I see for this restaurant are either "1" star or "5". I've dined at Hunan West three times for lunch and thought everything was perfect. Could the restaurant's ambiance be better? Sure, but to me the food and service more than made up for ambiance. What a great find. This is our first time here, and we don't understand why the place isn't packed!! Oscar the owner was a great guy. The serve staff was very nice, extremely helpful and made us all very comfortable. The menu is extensive. We all ordered off of the Big Meal Deal (or something like that). It included Chinese chips with sauce, a soup, egg roll and two wontons and your main dish. All for $15.95. My suggestion to the owner: don't use your booths for storage. This is a good place for takeout! It's a small place with a few tables available for dine in. We walked in to order takeout and it was ready quickly and bagged up in an easy to carry way! We got the "super meals" that include a drink, soup, egg roll, wonton, white or fried rice, and entree. I really enjoyed the crab rangoons and egg rolls. My sweet and sour chicken was a little tough, though, so I might try a different protein next time. Overall, lots of food, fast and friendly service, great for takeout! read more

‼this restaurant is not kid friendly or family friendly ‼ I know the owners have been in Flagstaff for years. I've eaten here since I was a child and today I had BAD an experience. The lady owner came up to our table as we were counting the sugar packets. She came up to us and said "These not toys!" And ripped them out my daughter's hands. She didn't asked for them just ripped it out my baby girls little hands. I feel so offended and hurt that she did that to my daughter. I paid $9 for my small,small drinks and left. I'm picky about my Chinese food. I know it's not authentic but I love this place and the orange chicken here. It's not battered it's lightly dusted in corn starch and than fried. So it's crispy but never greasy. The orange sauce is not gloopy or overly sweet. The super meal is a very good value. Love their wonton soup. Anytime I visit Flagstaff I stop in. Very nice staff. I went here last night to try it out instead of subway because I was hoping it would be good. Now, in my defense it was good but there is just one problem. They are very unsanitary, they wipe their hands using old towels. The food might've been made with gloves on (Which unless you are frequently washing your hands, you should be if your around food). I would tell something was a bit off, but I didn't want to say anything. Long story short, I ended up getting food poisoning which is a shame because if they could remodel the kitchen or enforce employees to wash their hands (Which they may not due to water prices) it is a shame I would recommend it to friends ONLY if they fixed some sanitary violations because it is amazing food. For now though, I think it's your best option to eat-in instead. read more

They're only doing takeout during COVID which worked out great for us. You walk inside to the counter, order your food and then you can wait outside or in your car. The food is DELICIOUS! I ordered the Kung Pao Vegetables and they were fantastic. The food was ready in only 15 minutes. Each dish is around $8-$10. Definitely worth the money. read more

It was a only 5 minutes walk to here where I lived during college years. My roommate actually was a waitress here. The manager and staff there are really nice. They actually make conversations with you. Very talkative. It's a good thing. It's a small restaurant. I can't say it's clean...but presentable I guess. The food is pretty good. Love their soup. It is pricey though. Go for the other dishes..spicy dishes!..rather than orange chicken. The fried rice are very good. Apparently, I sorta heard they are somewhat related or competing with China Garden Restaurant. Interesting. Haha read more

I love eating here, you get a lot of food for the price. I would give it 5 stars just for the food, but while waiting for my to-go order today, one of the owners was sitting in the middle of the dining area folding wontons in front of eating customers. She didn't have gloves on and started touching other things, then back to folding wontons without washing her hands. She even wiped her hands on a dirty cleaning rag. Then another worker was spraying tables with cleaner next to her. Good thing they're fried and it will probably kill any germs! I don't work for the health department, but I'm pretty sure this is a violation lol. If folding wontons in the middle of the lunch rush is acceptable, I can only imagine what goes on in the back! I'm trying not to think about it. I'll probably continue eating here, just minus the wontons! And on a side note, I've never gotten sick here in the 6 yrs I've been eating here on a regular basis. I have a really weak stomach, so that says a lot! I have to update my review since returning home with my to-go order. I ordered the chicken egg foo young and moo goo gai pan that I normally order. If this was my first time eating there, I'd probably never go back. Maybe there's a new cook or just a different one for lunch, but it was nasty!!! No flavor, no seasonings, no color, just plain bland food. I've never experienced this from there. Kinda disappointed, but now I can understand the other bad reviews on the food.
