I love eating here, you get a lot of food for the price. I would give it 5 stars just for the food, but while waiting for my to-go order today, one of the owners was sitting in the middle of the dining area folding wontons in front of eating customers. She didn't have gloves on and started touching other things, then back to folding wontons without washing her hands. She even wiped her hands on a dirty cleaning rag. Then another worker was spraying tables with cleaner next to her. Good thing they're fried and it will probably kill any germs! I don't work for the health department, but I'm pretty sure this is a violation lol. If folding wontons in the middle of the lunch rush is acceptable, I can only imagine what goes on in the back! I'm trying not to think about it. I'll probably continue eating here, just minus the wontons! And on a side note, I've never gotten sick here in the 6 yrs I've been eating here on a regular basis. I have a really weak stomach, so that says a lot! I have to update my review since returning home with my to-go order. I ordered the chicken egg foo young and moo goo gai pan that I normally order. If this was my first time eating there, I'd probably never go back. Maybe there's a new cook or just a different one for lunch, but it was nasty!!! No flavor, no seasonings, no color, just plain bland food. I've never experienced this from there. Kinda disappointed, but now I can understand the other bad reviews on the food. There are two Hunan's in Flagstaff, this one is on Milton near Safeway, and the other one is on 4th street near Radio Shack and called Hunan East. They are not affiliated with each other. The legend goes that this is the original one, and that the 4th street one is an imposter. I am sure that there exists some record to make this straight, but in reality, I don't really care. All I care about is the quality of the food, and given my experiences at this place, I must say that it is not my favorite. First, I must say the portions are huge for what you pay for. I got a nice big helping of chicken and broccoli for about $7 and I thought the crab puffs were amazing. The portions were big enough for me to make another meal of, however the taste was just average. I thought that there was a definite lack of sauce, and needed to put soy sauce on it to make it better palatable. Also, the customer service was sorely lacking here and it took a while for them to get water and some of the people who worked here seemed aloof. Quick, affordable and delicious. We stopped in hungry. The dinner menu has many options all for $10.95 that include soup, appetizer, rice and large entree. We had sweet and sour chicken, chicken chow mein and spicy bbq pork and broccoli. Everything was so good, we will be back. Service was prompt and our server was very attentive and sweet. Without doubt this is the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I've Eben lived in rural Kentucky and had better Chinese out there. Service is lacking, if you're not a regular. See the servers spend time with those tables and ignore you. The soup was appalling and was majority cornstarch. The General Tso's chicken was chunks of chicken (not cleaned) hardly coated and served in the brown goop. I would recommend eating at the subway next door and save your money. read more

When we mentioned the dryness of the chicken, the waitress was exceptionally nice and offered to take it off the bill. The owner (I'm assuming) came out and talked to my wife and daughter about it. Then went to the kitchen, and returned to the table to say he talked to the cook and the chicken was cooked "perfectly." Lesson for the owner...don't ever argue or tell the customer they're wrong. I've had consistently good food and friendly service here in the past, but my last visit was TERRIBLE. Not only was the service under-par, but the food was prepared incorrectly. I ordered my tofu extra spicy, and when it was presented undercooked (the tofu was still cold) and covered with a flavorless gravy, I asked to have it returned since I ordered it spicy. Instead of remaking the dish, the owner brought me a dish of garlic chili sauce and told me to make it as spicy as I wanted. As we all know, for tofu to be flavorful, it must be COOKED with flavor. Stirring the sauce around the watery, brown gravy did NOTHING except make me realize this place has no class and even less customer service. To make matters WORSE, the owner sent the waitress back to apologize, even though it was the OWNER who refused to remake the dish and only brought out the chili sauce. NO reduction on the bill, no offer to comp something in the future, not even an extra fortune cookie. I was a dedicated visitor to this establishment, but they lost me on tofu. SAD =( read more

Don't let its location deter you. This place was awesome! Great, friendly staff. The cook came out and explained my order to me to make sure it was just what I wanted without me even asking. The server made sure I had everything I needed. The portions were HUGE, with tons of options to choose from. For $13 I got wonton soup (wasn't my thing but still a good broth), an egg roll aNd a crispy wonton, fried rice, and twice cooked Szechuan pork. The egg roll was easily the best I've ever had. Superb. The fried rice was bomb and so was the Szechuan sauce. The pork wasn't my favorite but the veggies made up for it. I'll never go to Panda Express again. Best chinese food in flagstaff. My husband and I normally go to china garden because they deliver but thought we would give it a try. At first we were a little iffy because it was so small but we are so glad we tried it. what we got Won ton soup- well flavored broth which is a rarity and homemade dumplings that were so yummy fried dumplings- were great, and about the size of my palm. You could tell they were made from scratch even the wrappers beef with green onion and bamboo shoots- again great chow mein with shrimp- liked that the shrimp were sautéed not just boiled sesame chicken- was yummy but i'd only give it three stars. My husband liked the crunchy outside coating. Our waitress was very nice, the portions were nice sized. We had leftovers of everything. This place is great for going for a fast meal of decent food at reasonable prices. I would probably have given it 2 stars simply for its food, but our server gets a whole star all to herself! The soups were a bit salty (probably from simmering all day), and the rice was a bit old (we went in around 7:30-8:00). Portions are decent--our friends got the vegetarian chow mein and were very full. Of course, they are both under 5'3 and both less than 110 lbs! So if you aren't in that size range, order more food! My bf and I ordered the $8 special--I was stuffed, he was stuffed after he ate everyone else's appetizers. He's also 6'2 and 200lbs, so if you're in that size range, the $8 may not be enough for you! I give 3 stars for food, and one more for service. I came with my family, who could all speak Cantonese. That earned us extra points with the owners. Both came by and chatted with us about the food, sightseeing, etc. They were also really courteous about keeping our teapot filled and making sure the food was tasty. However, I do see how they can appear a little rude when they're not speaking Cantonese/Mandarin. As for the food, I've eaten a lot of Chinese food when in CA and Asia. The food here isn't bad, but it's not great either. We had tofu (mediocre. We asked for it to be nonspicy, but it would've tasted better if it was spicy), mixed veggies (a bit too saucy), sesame chicken (breaded too thickly. The sauce was tasty though) and Mongolian beef (WINNER). The Mongolian Beef is a must. The meat is tender and beautifully seasoned. Overall, I would come back. Let's start with some good - the service is exceptionally friendly and professional. Lovely folks. The service gets them the third star. The restaurant itself is clean and pleasant, parking is easy. The food was hit or miss, I'm afraid. The orange chicken was different from the way most places prepare it - it wasn't breaded - and actually pretty tasty. The egg rolls were o.k., a little smaller than we're used to. The pork fried rice was pretty bland though, needed a lot of soy sauce to save it. Will we be back? Maybe. Hunan has been serving consistently tasty food for as long as I can remember. I was a customer while in college 30 years ago and now my children love Hunan West as well. Their soups, especially Hot and Sour and Wonton seem to have magical medicinal properties when you have a sore throat. Right now, they are doing take out exclusively to keep their customers safe. Where do I start?! From the moment we walked in it was bad!! Reminded me of the Soup Nazi " Go sit there!!!!" The hostess/ server was the rudest person I have met in Flag, practically throwing dishes at the table. The food was not what I was expecting and heavy on the salt. Food was flavorless and cold, the rice was cold, hard, and clumped together like it had been cooked the previous day, Hot & Sour Soup was tepid, the Hunan Chicken was just breaded, deep-fried chicken pieces with a watery sauce that had a pinch of green onions and some red-pepper flakes...that's it! I've had Hunan Chicken for my whole life, which happens to be at least twice as long as our server has been on-planet, and when I pointed out that this was NOTHING even close to Hunan Chicken, I was told that other restaurants are doing it wrong and you have to ask for the other vegetables (onion, bamboo shoots, etc.). Are you 'effin kidding me? No, not kidding. They gave us 2 sets of chopsticks, both were bent into half-circles, or parentheses, one of the sets snapped in half as if it were already broken (from a server sitting on it?). Only reasons they're not receiving 1 star is that they got the mushrooms and snow peas into one of the vegetarian plates we ordered, like we asked. Others have said, "DO NOT EXPECT good food here..." apparently anything can happen, so expect the unexpected! I've never had any food this messed-up from Panda Express, and I don't really consider them a dining option...maybe that will lend some perspective. This was Saturday night's meal - it's Tuesday and I'm still having regrets. I am a Chinese, I traveled to this city with my parents and kids, we tried to find a Chinese food restaurant, I found this restaurant in Yelp, I chose it because its rating in Yelp looks good, but at the end I am very very disappointed! When I walked into this restaurant, I found no Chinese or even Asian among the customers, this is not a good sign, I hesitated, but finally I still decided to try because the boss is a Chinese, and I gave my trust to him, while I shouldn't be! We made the order, then wait patiently although my parents and kids were extremely hungry, because it was 7:30pm already, after 40+ mins there was still nothing to get unless water, I asked the waiter to expedite our order, then I saw the boss go into kitchen, it seams like the boss is the only person to cook 'Chinese food', after 30+ minutes we got the entrees we ordered, the most terrible thing happened, these are not Chinese food at all! The tasty is too bad, everybody in China can cook better than this, what a cheater, they should not name as Chinese restaurant, this misleading us, and this also misleading those non-Chinese customer on their acknowledge to Chinese food. This restaurant should be closed immediately! What's more? The boss of this restaurant is very rude! When we paid the bill, the boss only gave us a sum number writing on paper, we want to know how the sum being calculated, we asked the boss to provide a detailed list with the price of each entrees we ordered, the boss was very impatient, he threw the menu to us to ask us to check by ourselves, and he satirized we do not have math skill! My husband has a good temper usually but he got very angry this time, I do not want the bad experience impact my parents and kids, so I got my family leave quickly without argue with the boss, because it will make me foolish if I argue with a foolish and bad man!
