I moved last year and I'm on a quest to rebuild my list of reliable Chinese takeout spots closer to my new home. That quest brought me to Hunan Wok III in New Britain. I visited for lunch and ordered a Lunch Combo with Hunan Beef, pork fried rice and an egg roll, and I also ordered a wonton soup. They have a couple of dine in tables and I decided to eat there. Atmosphere isn't really a selling point, but the restaurant seemed clean and functional. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was a mix of good and very good. Highlights included: (1) the egg roll with a peek crispy exterior and a flavorful filling; (2) the flavor of the mildly spicy and rich brown Hunan sauce and the texture, color and variety of the vegetables (peppers, carrots, chopped baby corn, broccoli, onion, mushrooms, etc.) in the Hunan Beef; (3) the substantial wontons and tasty meat filling of the wontons in the soup; and (4) the chopped boneless spareribs type pork in the pork fried rice. Things which were not quite as good included: (1) the soup broth could have used a bit more flavor; (2) the rice in the fried rice was yellow and I tend to prefer the flavor of the fried rice style that is tan; and (3) the beef was a bit chewy in parts, although still above average for CT Chinese takeout restaurants. 4.25 Stars. First time ordering general Tso chicken, boneless spare ribs, sweet and sour chicken and crab Rangoon. The ribs had absolutely NO fat and were flavorful. The chicken wasn't all breading and wasn't greasy, decent size pieces of chicken. Crab Rangoon was delectable and didn't taste like cream cheese like other places. Rice was bland. Everyone at the office was in the mood for Chinese food for lunch, and on Mondays, most Chinese restaurants are closed. Hunan Wok III was opened and we called in our order. Such a reliable Chinese Take-Out. Hunan Wok lll has always treated me so good and blessed me with exceptional Chinese food. As I work around this area its important to know where I can grab a good lunch. While at work, I need tasty food to keep me happy, it needs to be quick so that I could get back to work and it needs to be cheap so that I have enough money for surf and turf on my days off. Hunan Wok lll provides just that and they take care of me every time. Their combos are decently priced and their BBQ Spare Ribs were delicious. They were drenched in sauce and went well with the fried rice. I also had their Teriyaki Skewers and Fried Chicken Fingers with a side of Egg Drop Soup. The soup was as expected, very good. But the Teriyaki Skewers really hit the spot and it was a strange combo with the Chinese batter Fried Chicken Fingers but I was glad I got it. The chicken wasn't overcooked and the batter was light which I always appreciate. Other than that, with the extremely fast and friendly service, it explains why I come here and their other locations quite often. read more

When you order out it's so you can RELAX and enjoy a meal. ITS NOTSO THAT YOU CAN GET SO UPSET YOUR HEART STARTS RACING!..... I placed on order online. Went to pick up at the time specifie. Upon arrival I'm talking to the woman who looks confused when I said I placed the order online. Then she said one minute take a seat. After a 1/2 hr I finally got my order. I get home to find out the order is all wrong. My daughter ordered general Tso combo and instead of fried rice she got plain. She ordered a soup that was not in the bag. I ordered beef w/mushrooms and received beef with broccoli which I'm allergic to. The egg drop soup I ordered was so thick it stuck to the spoon. NASTY! At this point Im more than upset. I called to complain and asked for a refund the woman's refused to give me a refund! Was telling me they are busy and nothing wrong with egg drop always like that! ... seriously? She wanted me to drive back to the restaurant to see the pot of egg drop soup! I wasn't going anywhere! PLEASE ANYONE THINKING OF GETTING FOOD HERE .... PLEASE DONT! Love this Chinese restaurant. The delivery driver was so nice and punctual. Food was bomb and fresh. Not dry and stale.

Some basic rules of Chinese takeout: -When you're the only customer in the store, your order should take no longer than the prescribed "ten minutes." Mine took 25 minutes at best, and at least 10 of them were spent doing nothing. When one hears utter silence coming from the kitchen instead of the familiar sounds of wok sizzling and food chopping, you know your time is being wasted. -There's a line between "expectedly greasy because it's Chinese takeout" and "this crap is just completely covered in oil." My egg roll stepped WAY over that line. It was physically wet - you could actually see the light reflecting off the coating of grease that clearly was not properly drained away after the frying process. Disgusting. -Moo Shu comes with hoisin sauce, period. None to be found in the bag when I opened it at home. That was truly infuriating. Imagine if your salad came with no dressing - technically not inedible, but missing a key element. -When your menu states that Moo Shu comes with five pancakes, give your customers five pancakes, not THREE... Also, do not prepackage said pancakes by rolling and folding them up in plastic wrap, or you customers will find them impossible to open and separate without shredding them to bits. Sigh... One star above the minimum because the Moo Shu itself was pretty good. But everything surrounding the Moo Shu was a total disaster. Thank goodness I'm moving soon. read more

When China Pan closed, I went to Hunan Wok III. The chicken Mei Fun was underwhelming. i was eating it and occasionally mentioned that I found a piece of chicken or a vegetable fragment. I: "Ooh! chicken! I got a shard of carrot" The hubs: "Shut up. there's a lot of grizzle in these won-tons." We tried it again; it was not better. We ended up ordering general tso's tofu and chicken egg foo young. The eggs were bobbing in oil. Apparently. he tossed the oil into the toilet. (I know... it's his week to clean; it'd weird.) This was my first time ordering from this restaurant. The woman that took my order was very nice. She was very sweet and made the ordering process easy. I ordered the general tsao chicken combo with hot and sour soup with a side of crab ragoons. The general tsao was still crispy when I got home and was perfectly flavored. The hot and sour could have used a little less black pepper. The crab ragoons was the perfect mix of cream cheese and vegetable filling. I will be ordering here again in the future. read more

This place has the best general tso's that I've found in the area. General tso's is my all time favorite Chinese food. So I normally go to this place for my chinese. They also have great lunch specials. Definitely recommend. read more

I've ordered from here recently and the pork fried rice was delicious. Savory, not too dry. That in and of itself was worth noting. A lot of the other Chinese food places in New Britain had subpar pork fried rice, and the good rice here was actually an anomaly which I will give 5 stars for. read more
