Really good sichuan food, giant portions, authentic Been meaning to swing by this place. Often cited as one of the best sichuan places around, had to make the trek to see. Outside is very much a busy shopping plaza in not the best part of town. Inside is a completely different story. Very clean and spacious, lots of booths and tables. Decorated well and a lot to see. The staff were friendly but there was a slight language barrier. We fumbled through the menu and found some bites to try. Food came out relatively quick, and that was a bit to manage because there were a lot of plates brought rather quickly. We got pics and dug in. The bites were flavored well. Nothing felt too greasy or under seasoned. The white pepper chicken was very crispy. But not a lot of chicken on each bite. The sweet and sour soup was both sweet and sour, but balanced enough that you could keep on eating it. The dumplings were fresh noodles and the filling was spiced well. The only flop was the spare ribs. Really tasty sauce, but very little meat on the bone. Had to suck on the bones to scrape enough meat off to make it a proper appetizer. It tasted good, just was not easy to eat. Price for the area was high for the neighborhood. It's got the quality and the flavor to command that price easily, but it doesn't match the stores. Becoming my go-to for more authentic Chinese (Sezchuan) when I'm the area for work. Had the beef dry pot and a few apps, namely the pork soup dumplings and shrimp har gou. Dry pot was excellent - lots of varied ingredients, spicy, and kept warm over a hot flame. Apps unfortunately were not so good, definitely had a pre bought frozen feel and taste to them. The restaurant is pretty spacious and you don't feel cramped in there. One of the best Chinese food places in the area. There's lots of things they do well but I find myself coming back to the Peking Duck. Last time we went we ordered a whole one and every bite of it was moist and packed with flavor. And there's lots of it too. Comes with wrappers and some fillings. Don't miss out. I frequently order from Chef Jiang when I want authentic Chinese food. It really is the best Chinese food in the area. What I like about it is that their spicy food is actually quite spicy. My favorites are the crispy cucumber and the mapo tofu. There's a dish called "minced pork with sour pickled bean" that's really flavorful and best eaten with white rice. Their xialongbao is good too, but I recommend you eat that in the restaurant. I order them for takeout and while still good, the soup tends to leak out during transport. Everything I ordered was packed in plastic containers (which is great for fridge storage but not great for reheating) with the exception of the white rice and lo mein, which was packed into classic Chinese takeout boxes. read more

This is my first time here. The restaurant his located at 1600 South East Rd Suite 6, Farmington, CT. This is AUTHENTIC Szechuan food with an "Americanized" section as well. Look at the beautiful decor! The menu is big (in size) and shows a picture of each item you may order complete with Mandarin and English verbiage. For our drinks (they serve only beer and wine), we are having the Tsingtao beer (me) and the CT East Misty Mountain IPA (Boomer). Tsingtao is brewed using a prolonged fermentation process to create a crisp, refreshing beer with malty aroma and a balanced taste. The domestically-grown hops used to brew Tsingtao are of such high quality, that they are also exported to European breweries! It is quite good! It is served quickly in an ice cold glass. For our appetizers, we are having "Crispy" Cucumbers, Hot and Sour Jellyfish and the ever-popular Century Eggs in Chili Oil. Century eggs, also known as alkalized or preserved eggs, are a Chinesedish made by preserving duck, chicken, or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, quicklime, and rice hulls for several weeks to several months, depending on the processing method. Through the process, the yolk becomes dark greenish-grey in color, with a creamy consistency and strong flavor due to the hydrogen sulfide and ammonia present, while the white becomes dark brown in color, with a translucent jelly-like appearance, a gelatinous texture, and salty and umami flavor. The transforming agent in the century egg is an alkaline salt, which gradually raises the pH of the egg to around 9-12 during the curing process. This chemical process breaks down some of the complex, flavorless proteins and fats, producing a variety of smaller flavorful compounds. These dishes came out really fast! We're talking like 5 minutes at most! The Crispy Cucumber is really good! The jellyfish has a tendon texture. It is real good too! Spicy! This cuisine is full of chili oil and hot red peppers. The century eggs are real good! They toss in garlic, eggplant sand julienned green peppers. It is very family friendly here. The played "Happy Birthday" to a young child over the loud speaker. The music is very authentic too. For his entree, Boomer is having the "Fatty Beef in Lemon Acid Soup" which is a sweet and sour ribeye with a side order of Bok Choy with Garlic. For my entree, I'm having the Boiled Chicken and a side order of "Xunan Xueli Hong." Why? Because I have no idea what it is. Every so often the music is interrupted by sounds of heavy rain. For my next beer, I'm trying Harbin for the first time. Harbin Beer is a 4.8% abv pale lager. It uses European and Chinese "Qindao Dahua" hops, two-row malt, and German yeast. This one is better (darker, stronger). The service here cannot be beat! The server wrapped up put appetizer leftovers. The Baby Bok Choy came out in 2 minutes! This is incredible! It tastes real good too! An entree served in 5 minutes!! How is that possible! This bowl is huge! I still have no idea exactly what the Xunan Xueli Hong is but it's easy to eat in a light sauce. The Fatty Beef comes with lots of mushrooms and noodles in a tangy, lemony sauce. My Boiled Chicken is great! Expect Szechuan peppers, dried hot red peppers, garlic, lots of chili oil, scallions, bean sprouts and more! I just noticed how high the ceiling is! 20' maybe. No dessert for me but I am ordering takeout - "Kelp with Spate Ribs Soup." That will be tomorrow's meal. What a great dinner! read more

Was not expecting authentic Chinese food during our work visit. This was right by our hotel and I saw the highly rated reviews and decided to suggest it for our party of 8. Everyone was thoroughly filled and happy at the end of the meal. We shared everything but I didn't try the lamb or beef dishes. I did try some of the veggies in the curry dish and it was delicious- had a kick to it! The garlic chicken was a bit meh compared to some other ones I've had in the past but looking at the grand scheme of the meal, I was fully satiated. We ordered a ton of dumplings as appetizers and half a duck to share. The duck was tender and all the meals tasted fresh. Service was good. The best Chinese food in CT! Everything I've had here has been a hit from the Chongqing fried chicken to the pickled fish casserole (my personal fave) to the cumin lamb, green beans, eggplant with garlic sauce, mei cai pork belly. It's all sensational. The dan dan noodles, while not my personal favorite style, are still a big hit with my Chinese parents, and even the soup dumplings (xiaolongbao) are pretty good, especially for a restaurant that doesn't specialize in them. All the food is super authentic, which is why it's usually packed with Chinese people. Prices are pretty reasonable too considering the giant portions. This has quickly become THE special occasion restaurant for my family. We are so thrilled that we don't have to trek all the way to Chinatown now to get good Chinese food. read more

Service is pleasant The bok choy side was so delicious we ordered a second dish to go. Gingery & garlicky with slight crunch. The scallion pancake was good but just a bit too oily. Their chongqing style chicken had just the right level of spice and was perfectly fried yet tender. The cumin lamb was another stand out dish. And the steamed dumplings in chili oil are a must. Pleasant interior, although there could be some updating on some of the more worn dining furniture. Really didn't love eating on plastic. I had been seeing a lot of Chef Jiang on my Instagram feed- it was finally time to see what all the hype is about... They did NOT disappoint! It's hidden in the corner of a shopping center- squished between a TJ Maxx and a Massage Envy- you wouldn't know what to expect until you walk into a gorgeous dining room with elaborate decor. To start, we ordered the crab yellow with pork xiao longbao (soup dumplings), beef & tripe with chili oil and the ground beef bao (5 pieces). The soup dumplings were my favorite! So much flavor packed into those plump dumplings! A perfect combination of meat and broth! The "build your own bao" style buns were fun! Ground beef was a different style, a little "sloppy Joe" messy but nothing wrong with that! The beef & tripe in chili oil had a kick that crept up on you! Very flavorful. For entrees, we had the spicy shredded squid, the Chongquin style fried chicken and the braised pork in mao. The braised pork was so delicious and succulent- I would definitely order this again! The fried chicken was a whole new level of crunchy- I really enjoyed it. Even the leftovers were crispy! The shredded squid was good, but not as exciting as the other two. After a bunch of IG food influencers raved about this place we finally got a chance to eat here for dinner. We stayed with our normal "American" order of General Tso's, beef & broccoli, pork lo mein and pork fried rice. We started off with fried pork dumplings. My belief is that sauces are probably made here. Nothing is really flavorful. The dumplings were ok, the sauce mild for dipping. General Tso chicken is my big barometer for this cuisine and it's unfortunately not in my top 10. A lot of bread, lots of chew and the sauce almost "ketchup-y". Beef with broccoli was again mildly flavored and ok. I have had much better. The pork lo mein was probably the best dish we ordered with the most flavor. I believe from looking at the other diners, the authentic Chinese dishes are where Chef Jiang probably shines. Service was good. Very open restaurant. A Big YES! This girl left very happy! A friend of mine invited me to an early dinner, and we chose six menu items to munch on. Now, of course, we had our favorites, but everything we ordered, was delicious! We ordered the steamed wontons in the spicy chili oil, DEVINE! I'm actually salivating still! I might have to order my own next time because I don't think I will be able to share these. The cabbage and pork belly was so flavorful and had a beautiful spice to it! It's served with your own individual bowl of white rice. Yum! The steam shrimp shumai was probably my least favorite, but still tasty! I added some dumpling sauce, along with some chili oil and that did it for me! If you enjoy cucumbers and sesame oil, the sweet and spicy cucumber salad is a must get! The staff were pleasant and seated us immediately. We were given water right away along with some hot and sour soup, which was on the house. We didn't have the best service experience, but liked the food for the most part. 4 of us went around 8pm on a Saturday and got seated right away. Most of the tables were filled when we arrived, but it emptied out during our meal. There were very long gaps of time where no one came to the table to refill waters or see if we needed anything. One of the people I was with is a vegetarian and ordered the Home Style Chiba Tofu. She started eating it and thought something tasted weird and it turned out there was pork in the dish. The menu didn't say it. They did eventually take it off the bill, but I would expect that to be listed. We also got the vegetarian steamed dumplings, chicken lo mein, kung pao chicken, and general tao chicken. The lo mein was good and I liked the sesame chicken more than the kung pao chicken. I probably wouldn't go back to the restaurant, but I would consider doing take out. I would ask though to make sure I know exactly what's in each dish. read more
