First time here. We just moved to the neighborhood and we're looking for our new favorite coffee spot. While the staff that meaning wasn't particularly friendly (not friendly not unfriendly), my chai tea latte was delicious. I will return soon to try some of the sandwiches they offer. read more

Cozy little cafe with ample wooden bench seating outside. Their Stumptown coffee is very good and their super rich choc chip and peanut butter cookies are the bomb! Even had beer and wine here on a rainy Saturday night (only $13 for both). Cashier/baristas are very friendly. read more

The lattes here taste good, but the service is poor. Every time I walk in, I'm polite, I order easy drinks, I tip, and yet feel like I've somehow affended the barista each time. Which has been dozens of times. Sadly, I don't think l'll be going back any longer. read more

Happened upon this cute cafe yesterday, stopped inside to get out of the humidity. Ordered an iced tea and chicken fontina sandwich for myself, as well as a lemonade and bacon/ham/cheese egg sandwich for my boyfriend. I *loved* my meal, so delicious! The egg sandwich was surprisingly large, super tasty. Unfortunately, my boyfriend did not enjoy the lemonade, it was bottled (unlike the iced tea) and was some mix of apple and lemon juice (according to the label). Nothing fancy, just an awesome coffee spot with some nice sweets. Also serves beer. How cool! Handful of seats. Was packed when I was there on a Saturday afternoon, but stick around and you'll probably get a table or stools. read more

This was our morning pit stop for our fix of daily coffee! The baristas were always friendly and on a couple of occasions we even stopped by for an early lunch and we even had evening bagel and latte one night. They have a huge range of doughnuts in the morning however they dwindle quickly! The oven roasted sandwiches were great with a good combination of toasted crunchy bread, meat filling and hot gooey cheese. The bathroom was spacious and always clean. This place has become a meeting point for friends of mine before we go to brunch together. We'll stop in at Hungry Ghost for a coffee before, and sometimes even after going out to eat on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The baked goods are excellent! The coffee is pretty much what you'd expect. If you're lucky enough to get seating, the ambiance is really great. Very simple, understated, clean and comfortable. Nothing too fancy going on here, just good coffee and really delicious muffins, donuts, croissants, etc. read more

Good coffee. Scone was great tasting, muffin filling was great (raspberry and ginger) but the actual dough was a bit bland.

Lots of interesting drinks and great donuts. Worth it for the donuts alone, though plenty of other appetizing things as well.

Consistent, excellent morning coffee. Served by fast, friendly staff. Clean, efficient layout for moving customers through line and letting us put sugar or milk in our coffee without creating a logjam. Great place, and worth holding a punch card to get that free coffee every few weeks. read more

If you're looking for Stumptown coffee, this is a solid coffee shop that has it. However, limited seating, pretty standard/limited food and slightly more expensive coffee than other similar quality shops nearby make Hungry Ghost skippable. read more

Most times I come in here it's my man Jon behind the counter. He's got the tattoos and glasses. Dude makes a killer cortado and has the best taste in music of any barista in the city. Every time I come in there he turns me onto a new band. Everyone else is super nice, the other day I met a new barista. She had on a Sixteen Candles shirt, short, great hair. Well, I don't know where they get their staff from but these guys are the best in the industry. Also, they don't have wifi so there's no one hanging out all day typing but if you wanna sit and read or draw they'll do whatever they can to make you feel at home. read more

Trusty local standby for great coffee. It can get busy during the morning rush hours, but is much calmer at other times. Their breakfast sandwiches are delicious, if you are in the mood for that kind of thing. My only (sort of) gripe is that I wish they had slightly bigger table for placing drinks on after they are made by the barista. I get anxious that I will miss mine when it comes up or accidentally knock someone else's over. But otherwise, it's a very solid, contemporary coffee shop with a friendly vibe. read more

I am a fan of the Stumptown coffee/ espresso drinks and the pastries here, and given that this Hungry Ghost location is closer to me than the one on Flatbush, I am giving it 4 stars. I agree with other comments that this location doesn't have sufficient seating (they could easily add about 2-3 more chairs), doesn't have outlets/wifi, and so it's not ideal for camping out to do work. You can get the lounge feel and bad coffee down the street at Outpost. Another thing to know is that the service is slow. They take orders quickly, but the one barista behind the machine can't keep up, so if you drop by on your way to work, be prepared to wait 7-10 minutes. I actually like the clean, bright decor of the place, especially the black/white floor tiles. I also appreciate the water spout they offer and think that by using glass instead of plastic, they are being environmentally conscious. I hope they will offer sidewalk seating this spring/summer. read more

I've gone here for many many meetings and it's low key, everyone is on their laptop and no one listens in on your business conversations. Pastries are fine, nothing to write home about, but in all a really good spot. read more

The jasmine kombucha was delicious, fresh, and reasonably priced. The yogurt parfait was super tasty (plain yogurt! Yay!), with plenty of fresh and tasty berries. Kept me going for the morning. All the breakfast breads looked amazing as well. read more

I ordered a latte to go. After tasting coffee from Ninth Street Espresso, i have to say Hungry Ghost is not quite up to par. For one, i was disappointed that the coffee was lukewarm. I'm not very particular about the temp of my coffee, but this really took the pleasure out of the whole experience. And then the taste was just mediocre, it's not something I would go out of my way to buy. For $4 a cup and a quirky name like Hungry Ghost, I was really expecting something much better. read more

The kid with the blue hair makes this place great. I don't know what culinary school he graduated from but he has the hands of a God Tier chef. The bacon Gouda sandwich is to die for.... I'm not a fan of most of the other employees but with his customer service and barista skills he is the reason I will return. read more
