This will be my new go to for middle eastern food. Fresh and flavorful, generous portions, friendly employees, reasonable prices. What's not to love??

I wanted to pick up something for lunch when I was nearby. I picked up two middle eastern sandwiches: chicken shawarma and falafel. Have to say that both sandwiches were very good. The Shawarma had a nice garlic butter flavor with fresh ingredients. The falafel was prepared with pickled turnips and tahini. It was delicious as well. I'd like to try one of their bowls where you can add from a nice selection of fresh ingredients. Lentil soup is great.

Been wanting to try this place for about a year &B I've been seeing, lately, social media posts raving about it. Today I FINALLY got the chance to try it & I'm SO happy I stopped in! For starters, the place is very inviting & exceptionally clean & tidy. The two employees I interacted with were super friendly & helpful also, which to me, that's gonna make or break whether or not I'm a return customer, regardless of how great the food tastes. I got one of their bowls & let me just tell you, it was HUGE. I chose chicken shawarma for the protein & yellow rice, as much as I really wanted lettuce, I can never finish a bowl in one sitting & lettuce gets weird after a few hours when it's mixed in with other foods. I also got the feta, which was $1 extra, their Habibi Sauce, which I can't say enough great things about! It has a tang, slightly zippy spicy with a touch of sweet. Make sure if you try this, you get a side to go, you won't regret it! I also got their red pepper hummus, YUM, & garlic sauce, also YUM. They have a variety of veggies you can add to the bowls, I only added red onion (because I'm not a huge veggie fan). I also decided to try their Habibi boneless chicken, which was deeee-lish! I noticed on their website they're adding two more locations, one at 24 & Hayes & one in Fraser, so I'm really looking forward to visiting the 24 & Hayes one as it's much closer than the one on Ryan, which is where I went today because I had an appointment in the area. As far as prices, I felt they were very reasonable, considering all the food I got, along with the quality. Don't pass this place up, because it's kind of a little hidden gem you don't hear a lot about.

They opened in November of last year. Parking along the driveway. Counter order. Some build your own bar, nice. 4 tables inside. It can get a bit chilly inside as the door opens and closes, so do keep your coat on. Ordered the full order of the chicken kafta, comes with 3 skewers with cabbage and turnip on the side, option of rice or fries. Chicken kafta sandwich, comes with one skewer of meat and a small hummus, spicy. $37.06 They were nice to make us a special crushed pepper and special sauce (maybe Habibi sauce ;). The jalapeño hummus is good here. The staff are all pleasant and accommodating and care about your experience. The fattoush is mixed greens, romaine, red onion, cucumber and tomatoes. The dressing is light but nice. The spicy special hummus was good, good amount of heat to it too. The chicken kafta meat had really nice flavor, just a tad dry, but quite tasty. The chicken kafta wrap was pretty good, filled with one skewer of meat, pickles, turnip and garlic sauce. Added spicy hummus to make it even better. The turshi cabbage is yummy. I could eat a whole bowl of the stuff. Food is good, service is even better.

This was rice and cracked wheat they offer half and half both were very delicious

This was the best try my family had in years it's definitely our go to spot when we have people over feeds so many and left overs for the later we ate about 10 people from this and still had some left over the meat was all juicy unlike other places. Give them a try I give this place a 10/10 I tried the bowls there too and they are very fresh and filling it's like a middle eastern twist on chipotle

After the brief search through several junk drawers, my mum pulled out the slightly creased menu for Babel restaurant. Quickly, decisively and with military precision we decided on the grilled meat tray for 4. Were you thinking how exciting that sounds? That makes three of us. Arriving at the market, the little kitchen is located straight back. Nothing fancy, nothing notable, obviously no seating. Food was ready at the time they said it would be, wrapped neatly and ready to go. Once home, there was a difference of opinion on the enjoyment of the food. My son, being 15 and eating everything in sight, said he liked and my dad being 78 and not really caring, said it was fine. My Mother on the other hand was a big fan. She said it was delicious. Of course, after eating pizza 3x a week with the grandkids she babysits, just about anything would have gotten a good grade from her. So along with son and Pops, I'm throwing her opinion out the door. So that leaves the one opinion that truly matters and that is mine. The food was still warm when we ravaged it, so this is not a case of it getting cold first. However, in my humble opinion, there was much lacking. The eggplant stew and the mixed veggie plate was good, no issues. The stew was thick and flavorful with good texture and viscosity. Great weight on the tongue. But we aren't here for stew and some mixed fruits are we? We are here for the main event and that was the meat try. Sadly I found it extremely overcooked and dried out. The rice was a meager serving for a dish that was meant to serve 4, and while the kabobs were a good size all of the meats were very dry and chewy. I actually poured some of the stew onto the meats just to add some flavor and moisture to it. As for flavor, that came out on the short end also. Let me make it clear, nothing was bad about the meal, but there was nothing that made say I wanted to come back and eat it again. Nothing stood out as a must have and that is disappointing cause I had high hopes.

I stopped in on a Saturday morning with my whole family, and it made a tremendous impression! My middle child raved "Best food ever!" I have eaten a lot of middle eastern food - it's my favorite cuisine - and this is some of the best I have ever had. This is Iraqi Chaldean food - could it be better than Lebanese? We got a medium mixed appetizer - you get to choose 5 items from a pretty substantial list. They have the Lebanese staples I'm used to: hummus, tabbouli, baba ghanouj, fattoush. They also have jajeek salad (cucumber and yogurt - like a good tzatziki), Iraqi salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, onions - and beets, which made it great), Beiruty cabbage salad (will try it next time), and pasta salad (will probably need to try this as well). The hummus was less garlic and more tahini, and really great. Then we got a Combo Tray for 2, which might be the single best menu item I have ever ordered. Setting the meat aside for a second, the grilled jalapeno and grilled tomato were excellent, the yellow rice was good, and the brown rice (which they call biryani) was fantastic. But the meat was what set this meal apart. The chicken shawarma was, hands down, the best I have ever had. The beef shawarm was excellent. And the chicken tikka (like tawook) was so moist and perfect - it's what chicken should be. And the chicken cream chop was as perfect as fried chicken should be. This was plenty enough meat for a family of 5 - we didn't finish it; and if we had finished the appetizers, this might be double the meat we needed! The combo tray came with stew, which we also didn't finish, although we really enjoyed it. The stew choices are okra, potato, eggplant, and a fourth one I forget. We tried okra and potato and they were both tasty tomato-based stews. One final note: the pita bread was thrown on the grill quickly before being brought out - the warmth was a nice touch.
