This is where the locals eat. Great food for any meal. Great prices and the best staff in the area. Hands down best fried fish within 100 miles. Great steaks, broiled fish, breakfast, and the hamburgers and other sandwiches are all good. Really nothing bad on the menu. My kids love the kiddie cocktails with the kids meal..I love the 25 cent refills. Great sandwiches/burgers range $7 to $10. Wednesday & Friday Fish AUCE around $12, you can get broiled or fried. Pretty good place to eat. You get a lot for your money and the waitress was nice. More of an old feel restaurant with its own charm. The food was good nothing too unique about it but it was a solid meal. I got the Italian chicken sandwich the chicken was moist and had good flavor, someone got the chef salad and that was huge, another got the Reuben sandwich and that looked full with meat. Hungry Peddler has been around for a long time. There is a reason; good portion sizes and, for the most part, friendly staff. Every now and then there is a waitress or host who seems like they wish they were not there. I totally get that though. When I worked in food service, there were nights when I could not wait to get home. Today I had the cod fish dinner. It was $12.99 and included a tossed salad, soup, garlic toast, relish tray, crackers, dinner rolls, 3 pieces of fish, and fries or veggies. Yum Yum Yum. Dropped in for succulent all-you-can eat cod in a light beer batter ($10.95) along with two pints of their house Peddler Brau, specially brewed by Capitol Brewery in Madison. Delicious all around with quintessential north woods WI charm - dark wood paneling with brass accents and a small, packed bar area filed with locals. Great breakfast and really fantastic fish on Friday, whether you're having the standard all you care to eat option or the pan fried catfish it's all good. The best thing is that I can get their awesome hashbrowns with both breakfast and supper! Yummy, buttery, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside hashbrowns (I want some now!) This is not fine dining - it's great casual dining with friendly service, good food and very reasonable prices. I've never had dessert here because it's never been possible to ingest anything more than the large portions I've gotten for dinner! REALLY great creamy coleslaw too! read more

Interesting historical decor, worth taking a close peek at while you wait for dinner, which comes fast. Steak, potato, salad and an excellent old fashioned will cost you about $20. Most times I stop in I am in and out quicker then the fast food places spending only a little more money and getting a much better burger! Hungry peddler is a true hidden Gem in La Crosse. Not pricey, make sure to make a reservation though if you dont want to wait. Its been around for years. Any local will direct you here if you ask where a good place to eat is. I was born and raised in la Crosse Wisconsin and this is where we always ate. I have many reccomendations on what to eat. Im partial to red meat, so The T bone dinner on Friday nights or the Prime Rib on Saturday nights is a must have. My husband LOVES the pan fried catfish they have everyday. We also go there for Friday night fish. AMAZING home made French onion Soup and Batterfried onion rings. Definately a must stop for dinner when youre in town. read more

Really lovely steakhouse! Huge menu w many options. Great service but not rushed. It's a relaxed atmosphere. No need to dress up. Some of the items were a little pricy but the food is delicious. The lasagne was really good. The portions are huge so beware. I ordered the small lasagne and it was large enough for 2 people. The only negative was on the side of the building where you pull in and park, some of the employees were out there smoking and that was unappealing. Why not go behind the building? They were out there when we arrived and when we left. The women's restroom is right off the dining room. When you open the door you walk out in between two dining tables of people. A decent restaurant with a great nostalgic feel. We had breakfast here and it was real good. The place is covered with antiques and photos of historic La Crosse. It is a bit crowded in there, having to many tables and making it hard to move. The food is good but really nothing special. Overall a great place for a simple cheap meal. read more

I had dinner at this unique restaurant last night and it was a nice experience! The restaurant itself has an old vibe to it and felt very comfy. The staff was very friendly and our waitress knew the menu well. My friend had the ribeye steak and battered shrimp and he enjoyed both. He said the shrimp was fantastic! I had the pan fried walleye and it was good too. All in all it was a very good meal and I hope to go back in the future. read more

Such a historic place to eat; started in 1911 there are pieces of history everywhere you look. Portraits of different people it is really like stepping back in time. The food was wonderful and made with care, even if it was Applebee's price wise. The staff was friendly. Just a bit crowded but it is a small space-that being said it is not a place you should bring small children as the building is small and there is also a bar portion to the restaurant. Awesome breakfast, the french toast is to die for and the eggs benedict is very good. Steaks are outstanding and the french onion soup is outstanding, lots of onions, tasty broth and covered with melted cheese. Hash browns are great especially with onions added to them. The only con is that the place is small and getting seated can be trying. 40 minute waits are not uncommon. This is overcome by the cost be much lower then the other steak places in La Crosse and the food is just as good if not better. read more

I love the Peddler. Always have excellent food and service. I like an old-fashioned place like this that starts you out with some bread and veggies as a snack while you wait for your main course. I've enjoyed nearly everything on the menu at one point or another. Best french onion soup in La Crosse IMO. If you want a giant meal, get the full serving of lasagna. Excellent and enough for three average meals. If i had a single knock on the place it might be the old style decor and the tire fans, and the placement of the bathrooms being directly next to a couple dining tables, but I'm sure it wasn't an issue when this business was first built. I have no complaints about service or cuisine though, and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal at a good price. read more

We went to the Peddler for breakfast today. My wife ordered the corned beef hash, eggs and toast. It was really good! I ordered three pancakes, two eggs and ham. OMG, our order came out in five minutes and my ham slice was as big as the plate. All this for only $5.29. We are definitely going back. Highly recommend it to anyone. read more

I happened upon this small mom and pop joint after looking for a place to grab some "Beer and Breakfast" whilst working on the power plant in near by Genoa. It was a god send. Nothing sucks like not being able to drink after a good day of working, morning or night. Luckily the hungry peddler was there for a quick pork choips and eggs and draft beer breakfast. I also tried their friday fish fry, which wasn't bad at all. Best part was their house brew "Peddler Brau", mmmmmm I can taste it now. Greasy pork chops and fried onions with eggs over easy and four pints of this tasty ale. If not for this establishment I may have had to leave that job, and come back home. Good for me though, this place was there to make everything alright after work. If there is ever a call to work at that same plant again I'm there, if nothing then for the sweet pork and yolk and malted hops of Peddler's. read more

I normally go for lunch and the staff is friendly and super efficient, but for dinner last night I can only say - disappointing. This is a great place for an informal meal at any time of the day. I have been patronizing this establishment for years, and I just keep going back. Breakfasts are hearty and well-prepared, and very reasonably priced. Lunches and dinners are consistently good. I love most of what is on their menu, but my favorite is the pork chops.
