Hunnybee has been on my radar for a very long time, but, due to witnessing a long lineup on the weekend, I had never gone. Until yesterday. We went on a Monday at around 2:30 PM. It wasn't super busy. It was, however, glacial. I'm talking (and even though I risk sounding brattishly Vancouverite) Superpuff ON, hood ON, glacial. They keep the door as well as the windows open (my guess is to keep air circulating/as ventilation). So if you go in the cold months, I recommend dressing WARM. You have to order and pay before sitting down. They automatically hit you with a 18% minimum gratuity option, which only goes up. At first I didn't understand, especially given the "pay at the counter" vibe and because the water and such was self-serve. I later reasoned that, given the price and quality of the food, as well as the kindness of the employees, that that is understandable. Enough dilly-dallying - to the food! We ordered -Shakshuka (14$): I'm Shak-SHOOK at how good the bread ("grilled toast" on the menu) was. It was a made in-house sourdough that I believe is available for purchase. It was buttered and toasted to perfection. I audibly sighed after taking a bite. 10/10 on the bread. The Shakshuka itself was also quite good. Probably my least favourite thing that we ordered, but that is just due to personal taste. It gave elevated chilli vibes in terms of spices and taste, which is reasonable given the tomato base. The egg may have been the tiniest bit overcooked (but may be a preference thing). They served quite a bit of arugula on top of it, and I believe it was tossed in a simple olive oil and lemon vinaigrette or something along those lines? My point is-the attention to detail is incredibly appreciated. They could've just thrown plain arugula on. Very well balanced dish in terms of food groups. -Sweet Ricotta Pancakes (16$): This was the real star of the show in my opinion. I could cry at how good these were. Just thinking about them brings tears to my eyes. I usually hate lemon in sweet things (controversial, I know), but the slight hint of acidity contrasted incredibly well with the sweetness of the maple syrup. Generally speaking, it was also the perfect level of sweetness. They were so light and fluffy-not heavy all. They also didn't create an ounce of that feeling that pancakes that have too much baking powder can create. You know that feeling on your teeth? No? Just me? Anyways, if you come here, I implore you, please get these. Be mindful, they take a bit of time to make, but the best things are worth the wait. At this point we were full, but I had enjoyed everything so much, that I wanted to try one more dish, so we got a side of -Buttered toast (2.50$ iirc?) as well as the -Hash Benedict (15$): An atypical benedict, and don't let the name fool you-it does not come served on a hashbrown, nor does it come served on bread. Instead it was two poached eggs served on a bed of roasted veggies, including potatoes, with a sausage as well as a small serving of curried ketchup. Wow. Just wow. Seasoned to perfection, with fun sprigs of dill adding some refreshing complementary flavours. The sweetness of the ketchup with the spices of the curry in the ketchup adding some brightness, and perfect for dipping the potatoes. Garnished with additional pickled onions, adding some sweet and tanginess. My only wish; that it came with the toast included, but given the presence of potatoes, I understand the decision to omit bread. TLDR; incredibly good food for reasonable prices. I may be wrong, but everything seemed so intentional in the dishes. Would come again. Very eager to try all the menu items. read more

Hunnybee Bruncheonette has one of the most delicious and reasonably priced brunch items in Vancouver. It's cozy and rustic located on the corner of a building in Chinatown. You order up front and take a number to your seat. We got the breakfast sandwich with avocado and it was scrumptious. I read that they bake their own bread so it was fresh, fluffy and perfectly toasted. The toppings were very fresh and the egg had the right amount of runny yolk. My only wish was for less oil and mayo since it's a bit much for me and my hands were soaked in grease affer. For $10 this is incredible. The second item was the Shakshuka that came with 1 slice of toast cut in half, 2 poached eggs, lentils in their tomato, red pepper sauce and labneh. Eggs were perfectly poached and the sauce was a bit much on the tangier side. $14 is a steal and what keeps people coming back. I would definitely visit again. read more

It's a tiny spot so be prepared for long lines if you're going on the weekend but this most recent time I was able to slip in on a weekday morning and was able to snag a spot right away. You order at the counter and then find an open seat while you wait for them to bring your food out. Their menu isn't huge which is why I was surprised that it took quite a long time for the food to arrive, but it was nice and fresh. The staff is overall friendly and I appreciate that the prices are reasonable and not crazy like some brunch spots! My favourites are definitely the breakfast sandwich and the sweet ricotta pancakes. read more

It was our very last morning in Vancouver and we wanted to try some of the "best" breakfast sandwiches in the city. People hype up this sandwich a ton, and in my opinion this was the best I tried. The sourdough toast they make is just perfect for all of the rich and delicious ingredients inside. After trying that bread I wish we could have tried the pizzas there, but this breakfast sandwich was a great end to our Vancouver trip. read more

Super cute brunch place on the edge of Chinatown. I've been a few times and tried this Hash & Breakfast sandwich. I'd definitely recommend the sandwich (great price & portion) but the hash is a little on the pricey side. This place gets packed on weekends and is pretty squished in terms of seating, so if you're able to come on a weekday I'd definitely recommend doing so. I love this place I just wish they would make my coffee the same way twice. I order a small flat white with an extra shot to get the precise ratio of coffee to milk that I like. But sometimes they only fill the cup up halfway And call it a cortado. If I knew that I wouldn't order the extra shot. And it's not every time. Came recommended by our Airbnb host. We ordered at the counter and found seats outside. I ordered orange juice and the hash, husband ordered the pancakes and coffee, Coffee came out right away. It was super bitter!! We waited for almost 45 minutes and when a server finally came by the next table, I asked her about our food and she said it would be right out. No one came to check in with us, they seemed to also forget about my orange juice. Hash was fine, sweeter than I would've liked. Maple ricotta pancakes were good, but the plate was so small it was hard to eat. Would skip if you are looking for good food, and good service. Cozy corner restaurant in Chinatown and got there at a good time, around 11a on a sunny Sunday and there was a short line and luckily we snagged a table! Love the indoor outdoor seating options and it was a bright space. Got the breakfast sandwich and it lived up to the hype! Only $11ish dollars and wow the sourdough was SO crunchy (I loved but my sister is not a crunch girl). Definitely could've used some pickled red onion or pickles, something acidic to cut through, but I saw other tables have green salsa/hot sauce so I asked for it and it was the PERFECT topping that was needed! I went back again! Came for a quick Sunday brunch with a friend after doing aerial yoga (!) in the area. I was opting for something sweet, and we both ended up getting the ricotta pancakes. Thankfully, the cashier at the front was very transparent about how long the pancakes would take, which helped to gauge our interest and wait time. It was pretty busy that day (as always). We were able to grab a table outside on a beautiful sunny day, and enjoyed watching some dogs while waiting ~25 mins for our pancakes. The pancakes were so deliciously fluffy! I liked the berry compote that came with it, and I doused it in maple syrup. I ate the pancakes so fast (because I was in a rush, but) because they were so good! It's tiny, your hair will smell if you sit inside. My friend got her food literally 25 min before mine. They don't refill your coffee. The food was ok but this is not a place for me. My brother has been raving about the Breakfast Sandwich and was glad to try it for myself. My Mom had the one pictured and I had it without the ham. We both declared the sandwich to be - unique and outstanding. The toast and butter crunch of the bread and the fried egg becoming one with the cheese. Wow! The latte I had was sadly awful. One of my favorite brunch places in the city. Portions aren't huge, but it's much more reasonably priced than some other places so if you aren't looking to stuff yourself this place is a good deal. They also get their tea from Cultivate Tea, one of the best tea shops in the city. The restaurant can get crowded but tables clear quickly and there's a good mix of indoor and outdoor seating. On weekday mornings you can also snag a loaf of their delicious sourdough bread to take home. On different nights throughout the week, this place is used as a popup for different types of food. On Monday and Tuesday evenings this place becomes Taqueria Chicatana, which serves some amazing al pastor tacos. On Wednesday - Saturday evenings the place becomes Thank You Pizza and serves some great wood-fired sourdough pizzas and natural wines. read more

It worked out because another staff member confirmed he'd gotten there first. Our friend also ordered savory pancakes (2 of us heard him order this). They brought him sweet pancakes. He was super nice and mentioned he got the wrong thing, but said it was fine. At first the staff said you ordered sweet. Hunnybee is a hidden gem! I come here often with my coworkers as we work a few mins away (and i'm always trying to convince them to come here again and again). The staff is wonderful here! Very friendly and sweet. The ambiance is cute, they've got two little patios to enjoy + some indoor seating. What i like about this place is they keep the prices a bit lower than others so low income people don't have to worry as much. I am a huge fan of their coffee - have tried the latte and iced coffee, and an even bigger fan of the food! Their ricotta pancakes are on my list as top pancakes in the city. SO good and fluffy and soft, and flavorful. (You can get the savory or sweet). I've only tried the jam version but will try the savory one day. My other fave is the breakfast sandwich. MAN they're good, i don't know what sauce they use but it is something else! We ordered the shakshuka which was great. Lots of flavor and very filling. The savoury pancakes were perfect if you want pancakes but don't want something overly sweet. I loved how thick and juicy the sausages were. The hash browns were crispy and nice. The same sausages came with the hash browns which were also great. We came on a Sunday morning, close to noon. Even though the line was long, we didn't have to wait for too long to get a table. For pastries we had the banana bread and the chocolate chip cookie. I absolutely love Hunnybee's breakfast sandwich, but this visit, I tried their ricotta pancakes after hearing all the rave about them! It was definitely the right choice! The pancakes were so soft and fluffy! It felt like I was eating one of those Japanese souffle pancakes from Gram. I loved the flavor combination of the savory eggs and sausages with the maple syrup as it wasn't too sweet or too salty and I thought it had a nice balance. If you aren't feeling their breakfast sandwich, I totally recommend trying their mouthwatering pancakes! I came to Hunnybee to pick up some brunch/lunch and decided on their breakfast sandwich. First thing of note, is that if you add ham and avocado to the sandwich, it is actually $10 and this wasn't listed on the menu board. When we asked the person behind the counter about it, she seemed really irritated that we were asking. As it was on the weekend, there was a bit of a wait but we didn't mind. This place can be really hit-and-miss. Food quality is usually great, but the chaotic lineups for brunch have led to some orders going to the wrong table and crazy-long waits while flustered staff try and mix and match which order goes to what table. Sitting on the patio today, our server asked me to HAND him the plate left next to me. Um, maybe if I worked here? Or else, go around and pick it up from outside the patio, but asking a customer to handle another customer's used table setting just icks me in that East Van stereotypical lack of initiative sort of way. I ordered a coffee by my companion didn't get his latte, which was on our order. The server asked us to run down just what we ordered, but the number they gave us should tell him that. The server returns and says, "they didn't give us your order for the latte, so this one's on us." But it was already paid for, so just what does, "on us" even mean? He asks us again to recap our food orders, but shouldn't the number assigned to us have our actual order associated somehow? We watched a long lineup out the door turn completely over, and then some, before the food finally arrived. As expected, the quality was really good, but they need to streamline their communication because they obviously have too many gaps for basic ordering info to get lost in before losing some more. Supervisors and management need to put themselves in customers' shoes more and see where these leaks in communication need fixing. read more

Hunnybee is a pretty busy little brunch place with rather limited seating. There's seating outside, but the tables are on the low side and given the neighbourhood I wouldn't really recommend the counter. Price for portion is good! And that's hard to find these days. It's diner style so you order at the counter and pay first, and the credit card machine prompts you to tip first, which is sort of weird as you end up with really not much service except they bring the stuff to your table. So if that irks you, look around the interface for how to skip it, especially as the first tip option is 15%. Shakshuka ($12) red pepper & tomato stew, two poached eggs, lentils, labneh, toast Tasty, and given the portion and price, it's a win. Spicing might be slightly on the tame side, however. Lacking in some of the more traditional aspects, chief of which is not being in a skillet. This means it can get cold really fast, so dig in right away. Based on the presentation my guess is they scoop it out of a huge vat like soup and add in the separately prepared too-perfectly-beautiful poached eggs. Veggies on top a bit too long to be convenient but not a big deal. read more
