The friendliest staff I've ever met. It's a very hipster bougie place with two locations. The owners are pretty instagram famous but what stands out is their commitment to providing a good workplace, they don't offer a tip option as they just make the price $9 and excellent matcha. My sister talked up their frozen matcha here and it delivered! I got the frozen matcha that they are known for and I added a little of the passion fruit syrup which is actual fruit. This was excellent. They also do the traditional strawberry as well. They also had the best cardamom bun I've ever had. Truly a must visit if you live here or you're visiting. I really like the aesthetics and concept of this cafe, but there are a few noticeable issues. The store itself is quite small, and considering its popularity, not well enough equipped to handle the amount of customers. It was extremely cramped inside and the line will always be outside the door if there's even more than 3-4 people. It's also in a bit of an odd location off of oak. The matcha was very expensive for a 12oz size (almost $9). And flavor wise, extremely milky and not very strong matcha, which was a big let down. For that price point, I'm expecting a lot better. I finally had a chance to pop into cowdog coffee. It's a small cozy space with a few tables and chairs. I would recommend stopping in for a quick catch up with a friend or a short solo break, as it gets busy and it's nice to rotate customers in and out. I had the hojicha, which was absolutely delicious. I had a sip of my friend's spiced cookie butter latte (less sweet) and I loved the warm spices and strong espresso flavour. I had been meaning to try this place after seeing the barista's reels all over my feed this summer! When their fall drink lineup launched, I knew it was time. There was a short lineup when I got there with a friend on Sat. afternoon but we got through it in around 5 minutes. The interior was small but cosy, there was room for about 4 tables and luckily we snagged one. The drink I had was the black cherry hojicha-- you can definitely taste the high quality roasted hojicha notes and the hint of cherry made it oh so decadent and fall without being too sweet!! I'd say it's worth it ($8) in terms of the delicious drink / quality and supporting a local business. Would love to come back again and try a cookie next time read more

Finally checked out the TikTok famous Cowdog Coffee and it totally lived up to the hype. The space had a super cozy vibe and I really appreciated their values. They don't ask for tips, pay their staff a livable wage, and don't charge extra for milk alternatives, which is a win cause oat milk is always a must for me. This is a cute neighborhood coffee shop. We tried the cookie butter latte and the white chocolate pistachio matcha with a side of hojicha cookie. There is not much seating so it is more of a grab and go spot. I like how their expresso options have different levels of milk, which I think realized is another version of flat white. Earl grey matcha is good and we got an egg tart with star anise - super creamy! The small iced matches are pretty small with quite a bit of ice. Would recommend getting it hot for the value. Service was good they're nice about answering our questions! Also yes - it indeed is takeout only with no seating inside and a bench outside. No bathrooms and not really a trashcan inside. Cowdog is a super cute, but small cafe located in Vancouver. We easily found some street parking. The store is quite small with just around 4 table inside and 2 tables outside. The cup sizes are small, but cute. No extra charge for oat milk as well. There were 3 workers total and the cashier also makes drinks in between orders as well as serve the drinks. So, there is a bit of wait to order, but I would say it only took about 5-10 mins to get the drink. There was a line out the door when we went on a Sunday around noon. Seating was also full. We ordered our drinks for take out. They ask you to wait outside and bring it to you. Matcha milk, hojicha milk, and strawberry matcha. Personally out of the 3 choices the hojicha milk was the best. The hojicha was perfect amount of sweet and creamy. The matcha was not that sweet at all. The strawberry puree was quite sour and a bit too overpowering for me. Overall not bad! Accidentally discovered my love for hojicha lattes here. I originally ordered a matcha oat milk latte but was given hojicha. After trying it I am a certified hojicha fan now. It tasted like a cross between milk tea and matcha latte. The people that work here are super friendly also. I told the worker about my mixed up order and he kindly provided my matcha milk. It was $8.50 so not the cheapest in town but not too bad. The strawberry was a jam and not a fresh berry compote, which some people may prefer. The matcha was delicious and the drink was well balanced with not too much ice. The orange cardamom cold brew was dream worthy. It had a good level of spice and gave fall vibes and had a balanced level of sweetness that wasn't overpowering. I would definitely get this again. The hojicha cookie was $6 and had a surprise white chocolate filling in the middle. The value of this cookie was good and I may get it again. cowdog is such a wonderful little cafe. I loved the ambiance, it was cozy and even though there wasn't much seating space due to the size of the cafe, it was well organized to accommodate as many seats as they could comfortably, and still have room for the staff to do their jobs well. All the staff were great and super friendly, not to mention impressive, seeing as there was a line at the door the whole time. They really care about their customers and their staff, with their prices being fair for the quality, no up-charges for milk swaps, fair wages for their staff, and no tips. It's the kind of small business I will always aim to support as much as I can! I got their hot Earl Grey Matcha in 16oz, and the flavours were amazing! Pushing a 4star review, I'd have to come back for the rest of the drinks menu! I've had my eye on cow dog and the Dear Gus storefront well before the Instagram hype hit, from when they the occasional weekend pop up in other spaces. Beyond the cute pop-up situation (which the Vancouver crowd loves), the space is so darn aesthetic. I really have to say I came at a good time, I was looping for parking on a rainy Sunday and spotted no crowd out the door, another lap around the block and Bam I'm at the back of a five person line in the rain. Luckily the wait was only around 15 minutes. Once inside, you can see the small batch of specialty beans available for purchase, a very nice curated selection in my opinion, and a glimpse of the pastry stand of the days offerings. I see that they're using Luna coffee as their espresso base, which can totally justify the price of their drinks. Note - they offer oat milk at no cost up and are a tip free (built into the costs) type of cafe model. I'm a coffee fanatic, but wasn't feel like one that day, instead a craving for hojicha hit. I opted for a hojicha latte and it was delicious - I'm always iffy about the matcha and hojicha offerings that most shops offer because they don't meet my flavour-profile expectations I.e. most use these flavours so sparingly as a gimmick to justify a higher cost for their non-so-flavourful goodies. Cow dog's hojicha lived up to the hype. It was rich in flavour, very smooth and well blended but unfortunately my drink was served pretty lukewarm. Slightly disappointed, but again could've just been a one off thing. I'd have to come back for other drinks to justify the a solid review. The lineup easily doubled as we were leaving, we noticed the line hadn't moved at all for about a half hour and really thought we should leave the open up some seating space, turns out the espresso machine had a malfunction and the end of the line was not notified... from an operational perspective, they should've let the crowd know especially if the crowd has been waiting in the rain, people might have just left with higher hopes to come back another day. The cashier was multi tasking so it took a longer time to place our orders. We ordered an iced matcha, iced hojicha, iced strawberry matcha, iced vanilla latte, and the cowboy cookie. It came quickly. All of our drinks were lightly sweetened and I needed to add a pack of sugar to my iced matcha to make it easier to drink. The other drinks didn't need extra customization. The place is particularly small squeezing in about 10 people inside and with a few outdoor seatings as well. The cafe was quite busy on a Sunday morning but service was very quick and we got our drinks within 10 mins. We tried the two popular signature drinks I kept hearing about - Passionfruit Matcha Tonic & Strawberry Matcha Latte. Both drinks has good flavour and not too sweet. If I were to order again it would be the Passionfruit Matcha Tonic. It was very refreshing and great to have that caffeine kick in the matcha. The Strawberry Matcha Latte was light and the strawberry puree was really enjoyable as it was smooth yet you taste the real strawberry flavour and bits unlike the artificial strawberry puree you get else where. This tiny coffee shop has a very cute ambiance and great design branding. I got the hojicha with milk which although was not the best, was nutty and not bad for a place that specializes in coffee. I also tried the matcha strawberry, which to me tasted funky, but not a super cohesive drink. The ambiance is super nice and would probably be enjoyed by coffee lovers, and I however if I were to come hojicha I would go to Paragon tea room which is also closeby. The prospect of waiting in a long line was intimidating, but when I arrived around 9 on a Monday there was no line at all! Maybe the hype has dissipated, or maybe that's just how it is on Mondays. Great atmosphere. The space is intimate and aesthetically pleasing, a cozy spot to spend a rainy morning. The baristas were very nice, bringing my order and a glass of water to my seat for me. I got the hojicha + milk and a lemon pistachio canele. The hojicha was wonderful, fragrant and creamy. It was my first time trying a canele, and I was delighted by the custardy centre hidden inside the honeycomb-like crust. I totally get the drink prices, considering the no-tipping practice and no oat milk charge, but I was surprised at the $7 price of the canele given that it's very small. I know they're supposed to be difficult to make and the moulds are expensive, but it was just so tiny! That being said, I greatly enjoyed the overall experience and I want to go back and try the matcha and the other flavour of canele and pay the $7 for the canele again, I'm just a little skeptical; I wouldn't want to pay that much for a pastry barely larger than bite-size if I didn't REALLY want it. As an aside, getting to the washroom is a bit of an adventure, but they have signs up at every turn so I was able to get there without feeling lost. read more
