I absolutely loved this brewery, I was just passing through town and wanted to get lunch and try a few new beers. The owner was super friendly and it was nice to be able to sample the beers as well first. The brewery has a small town bar feel but very welcoming.

Stopped by again last night when I noticed canopies over the patio and people outside. It was cool enough for my dog to stay in my car with the windows open and parked in view. The owner is serious about having everyone wear a mask when entering the building or when ordering from the patio window. The current tap beers are limited and are on a menu posted outside. This time I had the Hefeweizen and Cream Ale and both were very good. Beer is served in plastic cups. One can ask to sit inside. The counter is taped off and tables are spread apart. Hand sanitizer is by the front door. Restroom door has a foot pedal opening, so there's no touching when coming or going from the rest room. Please support independent brewers! They are hurting for business during this pandemic. Other brewers in the Region have had to close permanently or are temporary closed. Hunter's is still open for take-out and sit-down.

There certainly is no shortage of brewery choices in the Midwest. Hunter's Brewery continues to be one of my favorites. They have an ever choice of beers on tap and there's always something that I like. They carry their 8-9 of own beers as well as 9-10 guest breweries to try. The bartenders are helpful and very knowledgeable about the beer, often encouraging you to try out new things. The atmosphere is very friendly and laid back and the owners are nice people. Hunter's only serves vegetarian/vegan fare. They pass the test with the meat lovers in our group. We all love the cauliflower tacos, black bean burgers, and the Kansas Moon sandwich. Everything, the bread, black bean burgers, dips, and condiments are handmade prepared from scratch. The food may take a bit longer because everything is cooked to order. They also offer wine both of the grape and Mead variety and cider. Note that the brewery is for 21 and over only. pretzels with Pub Cheese = AWESOME!

I was duck-walking the Sand Dunes at the nearby Indiana Dunes State Park a few miles north of here so I wouldn't get sand in my shoes. That effort was like the thighmaster with two 20 lb. dumbbells attached. Ok, I accentuate a bit too much. But not here, I had the pub cheese with the pretzels...oh, so, good. Then I had a small fruit beer, in-house called LEFT of CENTER:: Cilantro-lime golden ale. Bright juicy lime aroma and upfront flavor that transitions into herbal cilantro notes.. Oh that was tasty...so i went with my favorite beer style, their in-house porter beer with Rich notes of bittersweet chocolate and dark roast coffee from dark malts. Full of flavor but not heavy. ..called the Porter County , which is the namesake of the county in which chesterton exists. I had the Adult Grilled Cheese. Woah, it was a bit sugary but I loved it! menu lists it as: Grown-up Grilled Cheese - manchego cheese, house-made olive tapenade, fig jam (warm) I am so proud of this place. Making a stand for good beer in Northern Indiana, and the food was so solid. If you only get one food item, it is a toss-up between the pub cheese dip and the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese. YUM! RAISE YOUR GLASSES....HOOOSIER DADDY? See you next time, guys!

The interior is a shoe box with a few bar seat style tables and a half door opening where you order. A complimentary popcorn machine is set up by the tables. On tap are only a half dozen beers but that's fine by me. When you run across a joint this size you want to see them concentrate on a small selection and get them right. I had the pleasure of a couple free pours today, Abolition and British Ugly. Abolition, a robust porter, warmed my heart...so I bought a growler to go. British Ugly, a mild English ale, was nearly as good. If I had the time I would have done it the right way and ordered a flight, but we had other fish to fry. I enjoyed their small/local approach. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods do yourself a solid and pay these fathers a visit. Cheers!

I had always wanted to go there and am very happy to say that I totally enjoyed the visit. While there, we visited a lot of places and ate most meals out. Ironwood was one of them. Most of you know that I have serious OCD when it comes to craft beer. I like to try new breweries, always rate my suds on Untappd, and rarely drink beers that I have already had, unless there are no other options. So, of course I was going to try the breweries in Valparaiso. This one just happened to be owned by one of my wife's college friends. The brewery is in a nice little building. I'm sure it was probably a home before the remodel. It has ample parking in the back next to a small little patch of woods, probably about the size of a normal backyard. There were birds all over the trees, reminding me that I had made the stupid decision to leave my camera in San Antonio. My eyes immediately fell on the flight boards. They are set up with 9 spaces so that they can easily match the beer to a number, as they had nine choices to choose from. I asked for all nine to be on one, and she let me have them half-filled. I love beer, but never want to feel buzzed, if I plan to drive. In this situation, I just wanted to taste them. I liked all of the beers here. My two favorites were the Triple XXX Belgian Triple and the Cricket IPA. I also really liked Goliath's Demise barleywine. Barleywines in general are not my favorites, usually because they are not fresh. This one was fresh and not cloyingly sweet. My wife, as most of you know, is not a beer drinker- AT ALL. For that reason, we left after I finished the flight and a couple of small glasses of my two favorites. The atmosphere was very cozy. The local patrons who came in were all very friendly. One lady at the bar spoke with us as if we were there with her every day. The owner's husband came in and placed a plate with smoked salmon and crackers on the bar for everyone. And, most notably, there was not a TV in sight! Imagine, a place to cozily sit and converse with fellow beer drinkers without sports blasting in your ears!

We ordered the Elote Pizza, and overall it was really good. It had a nice wood-fired crust that was probably the highlight of the meal. The only downside was that it came with a garlic aioli that was very heavy...there was so much on the pizza that it overpowered some of the other flavors. I think it would have been even better with a lighter hand. For drinks, I had one of their sour beers and my husband ordered an IPA. Both were good, but neither really stood out as anything particularly memorable. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was friendly and took good care of us. The layout of the brewery was a little unexpected. We walked into the main entrance, then the host brought us back outside and over to a separate building where the bar is located. It was a little confusing at first, but it ended up being a neat setup. The restaurant was clean, with a spacious dining room and a nice-looking patio. The only thing that kept this from being a higher rating was the value. It felt a little expensive for what we ordered, and while everything was solid, nothing really wowed us. Overall, I'm glad we stopped in, especially as a place to escape the heat for a while. If you're in the area and looking for a casual meal and a local beer, it's worth checking out...I just wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to visit again.

Tasted like lime, too much and wasn't for me. But that's ok, the salmon is the best in valpo and the southwest chicken salad is fantastic! Not every meal is for everyone. The servers/bartenders we frequently see and know are Jordan, Adam and Abi. All are great at what they do and no matter how hectic things are, they are always welcoming, courteous and attentive. The drinks they serve are always consistently on point, no matter who is making them. That's a huge plus in my book. The only real negative I have about the place are the chairs at the bar. I get angular is ascetically pleasing to management, but to customers it's annoying and provides nothing but extra work. I have to move two chairs to sit down, how does that make any sense. Quit overthinking the chair alignment at the bar, I beg you. Of course it won't stop my wife and I from coming almost every week, but I truly hope one day I will walk in there and see the bar chairs straight and not angled. Anyways, if you want a place with great food, very clean, unbelievable workers and an ambiance unlike anywhere else is NWI, you will want to go here. Side note, if they could just add a steak to the menu that would make it perfect.

It was the special for the day. It was $15 for the burger and fries. I ordered it without onions. It came with a lot of shredded lettuce and sauce between the bottom bun and the burger. I was not a fan of the amount of sauce that came with this burger. The burger itself did not have any flavor. It looked like there was some pepper in the meat, but I could not taste anything. The brioche bun disintegrated in my mouth after each bite. My experience with a bun like this is it was either frozen or it is stale. Not sure why the bun was bad since it was their special that day. I chose poorly with a burger. Every other time I went, I got the Yakisoba noodles with short rib ribs. The noodles with the short ribs are the best in town and probably the best in Northwest Indiana.
