(219) Taproom, Chesterton

A most pleasant evening here sitting at a corner table and enjoying the beers and the wifi. Comfortable seating, a cool vibe and plenty of parking. What more do you need to know? [Review 20605 overall - 139 in Indiana - 1586 of 2023.]

Awesome neighborhood bar. Unique and very tasty. Even has a mini market to buy sausages for home. Definitely will be back.

Stopped here before finishing a long ride from Chicago to the Indiana Dunes. Food was mediocre. But the IPA they had on tap was quite good. Maverick from Mashcraft out of Indianapolis. Great suggestion by a bar tender with very good taste in beer. She shared with me that she was pretty into craft beers. Friendly and helpful (offered me sample of other things on tap; but her initial suggestion of the Maverick was spot on).

Nice crowd for the grand opening!

I just happened to stumble on 219 Taproom during their grand opening night and so glad I did. Great atmosphere. The owners did a really nice job designing the place. Nice and open with plenty of low and high top seating. It was packed for the opening, but staff did a good job of getting orders through and food/drink delivered in a timely manner. A little slower that usual, but definitely good for how busy the place was. I had a Coco D chocolate stout and the Thanksgiving Waffle. Great pairing. For the waffle, they created a batter out of stuffing and threw it in the waffle maker. The stuffing waffle was then topped with turkey, cranberry sauce and gravy. Nice heart entree that was delicious! There was a live band playing for the opening that was really good. Hopefully live music will be a part of the regular culture here. I'll be back regardless.

Taco trio, brisket, chicken, and pork. Delicious!

Dropped in for lunch after perusing the Chesterton European Market on a nice warm Saturday afternoon. There was live music on the grass near the outdoor seating which was a real treat. There is a small area for outdoor seating with 4 tables and umbrellas. We ordered their taco trio, which included smoked brisket, chicken and pork options. The meats were all tender and the recipes were delightfully unique and tasty. Particularly intriguing was the peanut butter pepper jam on the pork taco. A small cup of salsa is provided on the side. It was fresh and worked well with the tacos. They have a wide selection of beer on tap, but on this stop we didn't have any beer. Clean bathrooms too! We will be back!

Beer was flat and warm. Food was subpar. Hard pass Nachos were soggy. Burger was burnt and smelled like it was expired meat.

There is barely enough room to get the tables and stools in, not to mention people. Luckily, the good beer outweighs the lack of space. Maybe they will get a bigger place someday. They need it considering the popularity of their establishment.

The interior is a shoe box with a few bar seat style tables and a half door opening where you order. A complimentary popcorn machine is set up by the tables. On tap are only a half dozen beers but that's fine by me. When you run across a joint this size you want to see them concentrate on a small selection and get them right. I had the pleasure of a couple free pours today, Abolition and British Ugly. Abolition, a robust porter, warmed my heart...so I bought a growler to go. British Ugly, a mild English ale, was nearly as good. If I had the time I would have done it the right way and ordered a flight, but we had other fish to fry. I enjoyed their small/local approach. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods do yourself a solid and pay these fathers a visit. Cheers!

My wife and I spent several days in Valparaiso to both visit her sister and introduce me to the…read moretown where both of them went to college. I had always wanted to go there and am very happy to say that I totally enjoyed the visit. While there, we visited a lot of places and ate most meals out. Ironwood was one of them. Most of you know that I have serious OCD when it comes to craft beer. I like to try new breweries, always rate my suds on Untappd, and rarely drink beers that I have already had, unless there are no other options. So, of course I was going to try the breweries in Valparaiso. This one just happened to be owned by one of my wife's college friends. The brewery is in a nice little building. I'm sure it was probably a home before the remodel. It has ample parking in the back next to a small little patch of woods, probably about the size of a normal backyard. There were birds all over the trees, reminding me that I had made the stupid decision to leave my camera in San Antonio. My eyes immediately fell on the flight boards. They are set up with 9 spaces so that they can easily match the beer to a number, as they had nine choices to choose from. I asked for all nine to be on one, and she let me have them half-filled. I love beer, but never want to feel buzzed, if I plan to drive. In this situation, I just wanted to taste them. I liked all of the beers here. My two favorites were the Triple XXX Belgian Triple and the Cricket IPA. I also really liked Goliath's Demise barleywine. Barleywines in general are not my favorites, usually because they are not fresh. This one was fresh and not cloyingly sweet. My wife, as most of you know, is not a beer drinker- AT ALL. For that reason, we left after I finished the flight and a couple of small glasses of my two favorites. The atmosphere was very cozy. The local patrons who came in were all very friendly. One lady at the bar spoke with us as if we were there with her every day. The owner's husband came in and placed a plate with smoked salmon and crackers on the bar for everyone. And, most notably, there was not a TV in sight! Imagine, a place to cozily sit and converse with fellow beer drinkers without sports blasting in your ears!

Stopped here for a drink the other night. Very cute, small bar that's off the beaten path. The…read morebartender and patrons were very nice. I had the Ruthenia (Imperial Stout), Commodore Porter (Porter), and the Mead. All the drinks were very good and the prices were cheap. From the moment we parked, we were greeted by some friendly people outside. We walked in on the bar side and were directed to the dining side. Even with being on the restaurant sode, you coupd not hear the bar sode activity, so it was perfect if you have kids and want to have conversations. The bar side, even though we didn't hang out over there, had pool tables, a big bar area and Golden Tee. Theresa, our server, came right over and offered drinks. Fireball special on Tuesdays? Yes, please! I then told her we were from St. Louis, and shockingly (not really), there was a connection. She has family members that live in St. Louis! She recommended the tacos and burger so we naturally got 1 of each, along with a side of tots! Everything was wonderful! You do get free chips and salsa with any entrée, but the salsa really didn't have any flavor. Theresa also told us about their breakfast, but our hotel had complimentary breakfast. We should have listened to Theresa and went there. Oh well, there is always next time!

I couldn't decide what soup I wanted...choices were a mushroom soup or New England clam chowder. She brought me out samples of both! Who does that?!? I chose the mushroom soup and I'm telling you, this soup would rival the soup from Kennett Square, PA...the mushroom Capital of the World! Met the owner, Leroy. Super nice guy! Biker friendly bar. Will stop back on our way to Sturgis!
