Took advantage of the great weather last week to play at Hunting Hawk. They had overseeded and the fairways were spectacular! On #1 my buddy and I both hit short of the green, landing in that little swail leading up to the green. As we both took some practice swings for our chips, he commented how "lush" it felt underfoot! The greens did not disappoint either. It looks like they recovered from some infestations years ago. I'll continue taking advantage of the mild fall weather to get in some more rounds at Hunting Hawk this year. read more

Too bad you can't give negative stars. Clearly management no longer is doing any real maintenance. They are just looking to squeeze as much money out of the place before it closes. Grass in the bunkers - or are the ponds water hazards? Weeds on the green. You couldn't find one foot of decent grass on the green where the ball would roll true. Unless you are looking to go out and have a drunk fest with your friends don't bother with this place. The place is beyond gone read more

Played 9/7/26 and the course was in rough shape, every bunker was ground under repair (hard as a rock, filled with grass, and or flooded.. some were all three impressively). The greens were dead or pocked with weeds. Paying $75 for a course in that shape will have me looking elsewhere for the foreseeable future. read more

This course is in dreadful shape. None of the bunkers are playable; they are all hard as rocks and/or have weeds growing out of them (and that's not even mentioning the few that looked more like pools than bunkers). The greens are some of the worse greens I've ever seen. Every green except for maybe 3 have weeds growing out of them and are more dirt than grass in the parts that don't have weeds growing out of them. Your ball will bounce constantly after you hit a putt. The most absurd part is charging $75 for a round in this condition. The management obviously does not care about the condition of the course and is just looking to squeeze what little money they can from the course. read more

When in drought and no willingness to irrigate, there is no need to shave the fairways down to the dirt. Greens are fair and the best part of the course. The fairways however would starve a goat as there is virtually no grass available. Heard rumors of this course becoming a subdivision, sadly it would probably be for the best considering the current conditions. read more

I'm hoping management sees this and changes their ways. What could be such a great course is tainted by poor conditions and rude employees. Also, why does this place not allow singles? I understand not wanting a bunch of singles clogging up the course. If that's the case, then don't allow singles to book more than 36-48 hours out. If you're a group of four looking to play golf on a weekend you better hope you're looking for a tee time prior to then anyway. I can also guarantee this place is not packed to the gills on weekdays either. They're just leaving money on the table and turning people away while they're at it. If you ask them about it they'll likely just say "because I said so." read more

Terrible condition and very expensive for the course. The employees are unfriendly. The course looks like it went through a drought.

My father in law suffered a stroke 11 years ago is now paralyzed on his left side. He has been inspirationally golfing one handed since yet the marshal told him that if he's too crippled to walk up to the green with out assistance he shouldn't be playing. read more

nice course but staff is all ext rude. Especially to beginne golfer learning. The driving range attendant yelled at us for being there at 2:00 because the course "closed soon." They close at 5:30. We just wanted 5 minutes to hit a few balls. Kitchen staff also very rude. read more

Grill attendant yelled at us twice for having the audacity to eat a hot dog at the turn. He suggested we were slowing down play. Buddy, it doesn't matter where we eat our hot dogs, it's gonna take me the exact same amount of time. If anyone behind us wants to play through, they are more than welcome to. Not a beginner friendly course! The greens were all in good condition but the staff were not able welcoming. This was my first time playing a full 18 holes and we were rushed and pushed at nearly every hole. We felt very pressured and did not enjoy our time there. read more

Played here on a Sunday and was the slowest round of my life! Tee boxes had minimal grass and the fairways weren't much better. Id stay away here for weekends and if you are trying to play a decently paced round. Other than that it's great! read more

I am not a golfer, but my org hosts our tournament here every year. The staff is great! The food is also good, think typical American restaurant food. Getting around the course is fairly easy, and it always look great when I'm there. I hear nothing but good things from the players about the course. read more

Condition of this course pales in comparison to others in the area for less cost. I put this in the same arena as Hobs Hole in Tappahanock. At 54$ to play before noon is another stickler. Grass growing in the sand traps, greens with pock ball marks all over every green was another big issue. I guess the larger groups is what they cater to and that's fine but any halfway serious player wouldn't set foot on this course. Happy hunting, Hawk !! read more

Greens are terrible. People that work there are rude. Sucks because the course has a lot of potential- hope the development rumors are true.

I would have probably given this golf course a 4 star but for the price it is a 5. I have played here several times with no incidence. Some recent sun damage but not bad. Great course. Will keep coming back. read more

Updated for October, 2019. Lack of rain has had a negative impact on Hunting Hawk. As much as I love this layout, tee's need to be renovated, bunkers refreshed with sand, and weeds eliminated from the greens. That said, there were fewer ball marks on the greens than I saw during my last visit, and the greens rolled true. On a day when we would have appreciated a cold beverage, there was no cart on the golf course. On course marshals would be helpful as well. read more

Decent course, but they actively check carts and bags for outside alcohol. yeah it's technically ABC rules but most courses dont actively search for it. Won't be going back. instead of playing $60 rounds multiple times a year, I hope they enjoyed the extra $16 revenue they got out of me once. read more

Played May 13th 2014 course was in what I consider pretty good shape. Some spots in the fairway were a little bare but very playable. Greens were good, not great but above what I would expect for a public course Not a lot of elevation change but water comes into play on a few holes. And plenty of well placed sand bunkers. Staff was friendly. No one was in the bar service area when I came in on the turn but I just filled my water bottle so just saved a few bucks, no big deal. Most courses I play while on the road give you a small bucket of warm up balls. Had to pay 7 bucks for a small bucket. I've paid that much for a large bucket at other courses. So I paid a total of 42 dollars with a cart for a twilight rate. I probably wouldn't pay the day rates. I would play this again if I am back in the area read more

Hunting Hawk seemed like a promising place for my friends and I to go and play a round of 18; however, immediately off the back the people there are hostile. So I ask for a tee time and three carts and The guy working was wearing a purple shirt says "no grouping up, if we catch you were throwing you out immediately, members are golfing and watching you". Funny enough the place is a public coarse so stop acting like you're private. After getting the golf carts my group and I aren't even hitting on the first hole when the the guy in the purple shirt comes back. He first says that one of our friends that wasn't golfing had to pay regardless, he insisted we had to keep two bags of clubs on the carts when driving at all times (causing us to run our money and rent two unnecessary bags) , and he unnecessarily requested to search our party for alcohol. Then the guy forced our party to turn back to dispose of the three beers we had and was holding up the line of people trying to golf the whole time. Then he drove off on us an yelled or snickered something that was very inappropriate. Clearly the dumbass in the purple shirt working the desk and cart return lived a crappy enough childhood that he felt the need to target others when he should be shining every club in the shop and thank us for even turning up to the piece of shit golf course that is Hunting Hawk to spend money. I mean come on there is geese Shit every 5 feet and the green has holes all in it. I will not be going back again nor will anyone in my group and I don't recommend anyone visit this abysmal waste hole. read more

The course itself is mediocre/poor. About what you would expect for a public course charging $35-$50. Unfortunately the place is really mismanaged and the younger staff is generally rude. Bathrooms were really dirty and I saw the guy who ran the bar/restaurant not wash his hands which was concerning in the middle of the Coronavirus pandemic. read more

The course had a great layout, was overall in good condition. Some greens had some issues but it can happen. I came from NY to play with a buddy and he lives 15 min away and never played this course before. When I come back to visit I will definitely want to go back. read more

Alright, let me start by saying that the course is sub-par, but their service is horrible. Every time I have gone there there are issues with the course, it rained too much, the greens are dry, parts of the fairways are complete mud.... For example, the other day I wanted to go to hit the range and I checked their website to see if there were any issues since it rained a couple of days before, and there were no announcements on the website or their Facebook page. I drive to the course (which by the way is not a short distance to anywhere), when I get there they tell me that the range is closed due to the soft grounds. And no apology for the fact that I just drove all the way to the course for them to tell me this. If you don't mind the things I just listed then, you will have a good time. I know I'll be avoiding this place. read more

This is the worst run golf course ever. The employees care about nothing but nickel and dimming you to death. We showed up at 330 in the afternoon with a buy one green fee get one green fee free coupon. First they tell us we must use the rack rate not the twighlight rate. We are ok with that. The walking rate was posted as $35 so we figured that was the green fee. We are told that is not the green fee that $22 was the green fee. They charge you $13 dollars extra to walk. The greens were in bad shape. The rough was filled with grass clippings. There was lightning in the area and they did not blow the sir horn. I guess they are all right with us getting electrocuted on their course!!! read more

Very disappointed with this course and the scheduling of tee times. 3 groups of 4 players were followed by a group of 2. This created a bottleneck right at the beginning. The golf director Jeff Staton, was riding around the course moving players around (even after they had already teed off their shots) and telling other groups to play quicker. We were told on the 2nd hole that we needed play quicker, bc we (a group of 4, that included a lady hitting from the ladies tees) played the hole for 20 minutes and holes needed to be completed in 15 minutes. The only problem was the group in front of us was still visible to us and our shots were getting close to them. At one point the group in front of us told us to slow down. Well, we played an unenjoyable paced 8 holes in an hour. We did not get to have fun and watch each other hit any of our follow up shots. unfortunately im not sure we will be returning to play this course. I understand the golf course wants to make money and pack players on the course with tee times on top of each other, but I also paid almost $300 to come here to play with friends and family that I do not get to see very often, and I felt so pressured to hurry through the game. Next time its gonna be Top Golf or another course altogether. The course itself was fair. I've played nicer for cheaper. At one point i spoke to a couple other really nice guys on the course and they were displeased with how they were treated as well. Their tee times were booked incorrectly and jeff staton made them play the back 9 twice bc there was a tournament starting. I spoke with the jeff, the general manager after finishing the game. Told him about how the first 9 were a disappointment and all he did was offer condolences and said he appreciated that we hurried up. I was very surprised, bc we live in a world right now where customer satisfaction is very relevant, but evidently jeff staton and Huntington hawk feels differently. Hoping that this review helps anyone else avoid the disappointment that we dealt with today. read more

I like this course. Pretty good value, though a bit pricey in season. The course is in good condition and staff is friendly. The course is not easy, but not overly challenging. I only had one round where slow okay from others was a big issue. Painfully slow and I was in a foursome. My biggest complaint is that it seems nobody repairs their divots. Even early in the season the greens aren't prime. For a public course in rva, this is one of my top two based on price and quality. read more

The course is in pretty rough condition. Greens are inundated with weeds and bare spots...and fairways are rife with bare spots. The layout is good...service was ok... But the condition was so bad I would not play there again. read more

First time I have played this course. Loved the layout; open but challenging. The staff I dealt with were friendly and professional. Course was in great shape. Only knock I had was that some of the greens could use a little TLC. Otherwise, a good value, and hope to play again when I'm in the Richmond area. read more
