A stellar spot for happy hour and celebrations. I noted in my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and the staff thoughtfully acknowledged it with a card. The restaurant was not overly busy during weekday happy hour and the happy hour menu was available both at the bar and on the patio. Our server was fantastic with recommendations and checked on us frequently throughout the meal. *By Land & Sea: one of the most unique cocktails I've tried. The truffle garnish added a savory finish that completely transformed the drink. Once mixed, it resembled an elevated spa water with layers of aromatic flavors. I found it complex and fascinating, while my partner thought the flavor combination was surprisingly bold. *Far From The Tree: an excellent twist on an espresso martini. The apple and spice notes were prominent and reminded me of a warm slice of apple pie. *Late Night Lover: reminiscent of a fragrant Cosmopolitan. Fruity, bright, and approachable, making it an easy crowd pleaser. *Fresh Baked Parker House Rolls: although the menu only mentioned togarashi butter, we were also served miso butter and black garlic butter. The rolls were warm, fluffy, and delicious on their own. Of the three spreads, the miso butter was the standout with its balanced savory richness. The togarashi butter felt a bit coarse, while the black garlic butter was more subdued than expected. *Parmesan Truffle Fries: a classic executed well. The fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy within, and thoroughly infused with truffle flavor. *Huntress Oysters: arrived dressed with mignonette, which happened to be my preferred accompaniment. The acidity brightened the oysters nicely, though some may prefer a simpler preparation with lemon or horseradish. *Smashburger: a well executed burger with a thin patty, perfectly melted cheese, and enough aioli to keep every bite juicy and cohesive. *Beef Carpaccio Tostada: the pecorino was the dominant flavor, though there was a subtle sweetness from the filet beneath. The tostada remained impressively crisp despite the generous toppings. A brighter acidic element would have helped tie everything together. *Lumi Yellowtail Serrano: a solid yellowtail carpaccio. Despite the presence of serrano and pickled Fresno peppers, the sweet ginger soy was the most prominent flavor. The fish itself was tender and fresh. *Steak Frites: cooked to a beautiful medium rare and finished tableside with torched herb butter. The steak was thick and tender, though it could have benefited from a bit more seasoning and a larger portion of the port wine demi glace to enhance its richness. *Magic Mushroom: easily the most theatrical dish of the evening. The smoke presentation and glass dome drew attention from nearby tables. The peanut butter "trunk" paired wonderfully with the white chocolate elements, while the crumb base provided texture without overwhelming the dessert with sweetness. The food was also enjoyable, though a few dishes left room for refinement. Finally got to check this place out. I love they have an all night happy hour. I would say all day like their menu but they open at 5pm Inside is a lot smaller than I expected. The place was packed for a Thursday night. Got a place at the bar and placed my order for the Smashburger and a Late Night Lover cocktail. The ambiance and atmosphere was lively and at the same time a great place for a nice dinner date. My hamburger arrives but oops they forgot my drink. She came over and apologized and got my drink right away. The hamburger looked amazing but the top bun was cold? How could that be? I didn't send it back and just ate it. Besides the cold bun it was a very delicious hamburger. I would highly recommend it! I think it was $12 and a good deal. Would have been amazing with a warm bun. Made a reservation here to get dinner with my friends and girlfriend. We ordered the dry aged tomahawk, the bavette fries, the new york strip, lobster curry soup, lumi yellowtail serrano, the wagyu steak puffs, the choco chata, and the magic mushroom. The inside of the place gave more family vibes than it did date night vibes. The steaks were good. The tomahawk was massive. The bone was ginormous-you pay by the oz, so the bone was probably a good 1/3 of the cost. The lobster curry soup was delicious, but portions were really small. The wagyu steak puffs were good, but they only come with 2 puffs, so we had to order another order so everyone at the table could try. The service was good, but extremely slow. Our server James came to the table once to ask us if we were ready to order and after giving the recommendations, he never came back to ask if we were ready to order. We always had to flag him down the second time. Our reservation was at 7pm and we didn't leave the place until like 10pm because the service was that slow. The magic mushroom was different than most desserts you would find at a steakhouse. I liked it, but wish there was more ice cream on the side. The choco chata was recommended by our server, but I wasn't a big fan. The chocolate was like a rich chocolate puck of ganache and didn't really have much else to go with it. If you like rich chocolate, then get it. It doesn't come with ice cream either to cut the richness. We also didn't notice this on the receipt until it was too late, but they charged us for the parker house rolls that we didn't even order. I finally got a chance to dine here! I had been to two events at this location but had not have full dinner service. I give 4/5 as I did think it was amazing but just a few things I noticed. We had the chicken liver moose (AMAZING) but the bread that came with it was too buttery and rich in my opinion. I wish it would have come with non buttery bread. We asked for some non buttered and she said they didn't have that but suggested getting the 3 butter and bread app. We ordered this and were happy we did, the butters are amazing as well as the little loaf of bread. We ordered the beef carpaccio. I wish there wasn't as much cheese. I feel it really overpowered the entire dish. We also had the yellowtail Serrano, the Wagyu beef puffs and the tuna tare tare bone marrow. The yellow tail and beef puffs amazing! The bone marrow and tuna were good however the combo I feel maybe not necessary one sort of took away from the other. And these were served again with the buttery bread. For dessert we had the magic mushroom. This was so neat and delicious! Overall our visit was great. Came here a few years ago and didn't think much of it but recently visited and it's definitely improved! I remember the Parker hours rolls clear as day. The trio of butters are delicious! The spring snap salad is something I hope stays on the menu - very refreshing. Loved the nduja prawns, the sauce is nice. Now the mashed potatoes have always been good but the new grilled asparagus is a great side they've added to the menu. Our Wagyu cut was perfectly cooked and the service was super attentive. He was very attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Made us feel special for sure! For the food, we started with the Parker House Rolls - so soft and moist. They came with three butters - black garlic, togarashi, and miso. My favorite was the miso because it was just more of a sweet, salted butter. I ordered the Lamb Chops medium rare! They were cooked to perfection, and I loved the simple salted, grilled flavor of the lamb. I wasn't a fan of the pickled veggies and yogurt that came with it. My husband had the Steak Frites. The steak was above medium rare and just could have been more tender overall. For dessert, we had to get the magic mushroom. It had the best presentation. This particular mushroom had a peanut butter mousse and cherry compote! It was so rich! Def meant to be shared. I would def recommend this place to a friend for the happy hour menu. For a steakhouse at this level, that really shouldn't be part of the experience. Ordered wine and it came in a plastic wine cup, and some of the sauces tasted a little processed. Overall though, the actual entrées and meat were incredible. Definitely some of the best-tasting dishes and steaks I've had, and I most definitely will come back for the food alone. Our server was honestly the best -- great sense of humor, very human, personable, and made the experience much better. Just please get rid of the automated phone system. Popped in the lunch Saturday right when they opened during ComiCon and was able to get a nice spot outside. The restaurant was well decorated and clean with high ceilings. Our server(s) were very polite and quick to respond to a request for hot sauce and salt/pepper. I'm not sure if the lunch menu was amended to make it more manageable for the chaos that is ComiCon but we had a French dip sandwich and Mac and cheese which were good. I thought the sandwich was particularly tasty and had a nice, fresh flavor. Reasonably priced for the quality and ComiCon crowd too which was a plus. "OMG, Dave! Four stars for Huntress??? What did they do to not earn a fifth star???" Well, it's not a knock on the quality of the food, which was fantastic. My permanent date and I decided to celebrate the departure of one of the spawn, and I got an alert on OpenTable suggesting I try the tasting menu, which we did. It starts with an amuse bouche of Wagyu Bites (a nigiri-style slice of A5 on top of a hollow pastry with crème fraiche inside) and scallop crudo in a calamansi vinaigrette with slices of serrano. Delicate, delicious, well paired, and did the job of rousing my hunger. The next appetizer was hamachi with Fresno and serrano peppers in a delightful ponzu (I think). We used the spoon to slurp up the sauce. Yes, it was that good. The soup course is a sweet corn soup, which is served in a lovely basalt dish, and the creamy corn broth is poured over the solid bits. Our server recommended we get the Parker House rolls, and THAT is what loses a star, folks. I love a Parker House roll as much as the next guy, but it's BREAD. When did this trend of charging for bread become a thing? If you're going to serve special bread, fold it into the cost of the rest of the menu and let us imagine the bread is free. Onto the next course, pasta. A lovely agnolotti in a buttery and lemony sauce with corn, except this time it's like a more mature than baby corn, but you can still eat the cob, which is nice and crunchy. The corn was lightly roasted and served as a nice counterpoint to the richness of the cheese, pasta, and butter. The main was two ounces of A5, and at our server's suggestion, we got seared scallops to go with the perfectly-cooked, delightfully fatty beef. Absolute unit of a main. The sauce was green and velvety, with a corn relish (someone REALLY likes corn), and we were also served some lovely whipped potatoes, which really went well with the sauce. The proteins were so well prepared, I wanted to limit the interaction of the sauce, which kind of muted the flavors of the scallops and beef. However, applying it to the whipped potatoes was money. Now, our server, noting it was taking quite a bit of time to get our food to us, added a second dessert to our meal, but considering he was willing to make the substitution which allowed us to have the Choco-chata instead of the Magic Mushroom, and the Choco-chata has a hockey puck of chocolate ganache with liquid nitrogen frozen horchata and dulce de leche.... Well, we waved off the second dessert. Huntress is just cool. Between the DJ, centrally-located bar, and eclectic decor, it feels like an elegant, yet not stuffy, chic, but not pretentious, restaurant, and while I'm ethically opposed to paying for bread in a restaurant, I definitely want to come back and try some of the rest of the menu. read more

I have loved Huntress since they opened. I came here for anniversaries and celebrations. The staff has only ever been excellent and the food is great. I mostly pay by cash when I eat out. I called every competitor downtown after I left and they ALL accept cash, with many wondering why I would even ask that. I had heard about Huntress Restaurant for a number of years, but I never have found the time to go there. As a local resident, I do not often venture into the Gaslamp District of Downtown San Diego. It is very, very busy there, parking is always quite difficult and there are so very many tourists on the streets and byways. However, my cousin, who is a Vegan, stated to me that she had received a very nice Vegan meal at Huntress Restaurant. I am not Vegan, but it made me want to try the restaurant since we had been talking about it. On the evening of my visit, I approached the hostess stand, which is located just outside the restaurant on the sidewalk. A group of people in tattered jeans were asking the hostess for directions to a nearby bar. Even though these people were obviously not potential customers of Huntress, I took note that the hostess was very polite to them and offered them information and directions in a very courteous manner. When those people went on their way, my interaction with the hostess was equally professional. We had a nice chat as she guided me up the elevator to my table on the mezzanine level of the restaurant overlooking the bar area on the ground floor. The hostess' name was Dalia, and her exceptional manner and professionalism makes me want to return to Huntress again soon for dinner. read more

It was my first time here and I was super excited to try it. When you walk in the decor is so pretty! Lots of space and seating. We came on an early Saturday dinner and were seated right away. They brought us upstairs where there is more seating. As we were sitting I felt like there was no air ventilation upstairs. It was kind of hard to breathe. I already didnt like that but didn't ask to be moved. We ordered A New York steak 7/10 - it was really salty but still good. Gnocchi Mac and cheese 5/10 - it was so doughy and hard to eat. Crispy potatoes 7/10 - it was good but we originally ordered the Yukon potatoes puree but these came out instead. Visited for a business dinner and I was very excited based on the reviews. Walking up, the restaurant was very impressive both outside and in. Our party had reservations and we were directed to take the elevators and head to the third floor. Inside, the tables were beautifully decorated in the private room. We had a prix fixe menu that included Caesar salad and bread/butter as an appetizer. The salad was good, bread was firmer than I would have liked but otherwise good. Next app was a short rib en croute. Short rib is one of my favorites, but it almost seemed like this dish had sat out long enough for the fat to solidify. I could be wrong, but that is what it looked like to me, making it a little hard to enjoy. Bummer because the short rib was tasty. For my entree, I selected the salmon, which was cooked to perfection and seasoned beautifully. It was lukewarm though likely due to sitting since we had such a large group. My favorite dish was the dessert - a ferrero rocher-esque choconut. Basically a chocolate mousse covered in hazelnut. For most seated near me it was too rich, but I thought it was perfect and devoured the whole thing. Not only was the presentation excellent, the flavor was amazing. My partner and I celebrated our anniversary with a dinner at Huntress and it was great. I made reservations ahead of time for 2 at around 7pm Saturday on OpenTable and had no issues getting seated promptly. We were seated in the booth right by the kitchen, so we got to see all the food moving in and out. Our server was super attentive and was ready with recommendations to ensure we had a great experience. We got started off with a round of complimentary champagne while we looked at the wine list. We ordered a few glasses over the course of dinner. For appetizers we ordered half a dozen oysters and the Little Gem Caesar. For meats, we got the Angus New York Strip and the Australian Wagyu. Sides: Thousand Layer Potato (yes, you should definitely get it) and Confit Maitake Mushrooms (also a yes). For dessert, we got the Magic Mushroom, but with a twist. They ran out of their main ingredients that night so they replaced the chai mousse and pumpkin spice compote to a pistachio x raspberry combo. Personally, their alternative ingredients made the dish way better than the original. 10/10. We also got a complimentary dessert that was like a smash candle cake. Huntress in the Gaslamp is a strong 4 star spot in my book. Came here for a friend's birthday and we decided to go family style so we could try a little bit of everything. We started with drinks and some apps. The Parker House rolls were delicious and the different butters were fun and unique. We also ordered 4 orders of the Huntress oysters, which comes out to a dozen. At $50 a dozen it feels steep, especially because they were some of the smallest oysters I've ever had. They were good and fresh, but nothing about the prep or accompaniments really justified that price. The lobster toast on the other hand was an easy slam dunk. So good and honestly a must order if you come here. We finished off the starters with the tuna and bone marrow, which was another really solid and unique dish that fit the steakhouse vibe without feeling basic. For mains, we got the ribeye. It was cooked beautifully and tasted great. We paired it with the smoked carrots, which were good, and the Comte potatoes, which were a surprise win and ridiculously indulgent in the best way. We also tried the Huntress burger with fries and for a $30 steakhouse burger it was a huge miss. Probably the most bland burger I've ever had, which was disappointing given the rest of the food. We wrapped up with their Magic Mushroom dessert and a complimentary birthday dessert for our friend. The Magic Mushroom was super fun visually and I'd give it a 7 out of 10 on flavor. The complimentary dessert was good too and a nice touch. Overall, the space itself is really nice, has that high end steakhouse energy, and the service all night was excellent. We had variety of food and everything was pretty good but just like other reviews, the food was super expensive and you will def not be full unless you spend over 1k here. All the appetizers were super tasty but very tiny. The restaurant is super clean and super cute and lovely. I liked everything I had except oysters and rib eye steak. We had the delight of Gustavo and E assisting my daughter and I for our Galentines dinner and they were friendly, kind , and attentive. I can't say enough positive things about these two. I ordered a cocktail and honestly thought it to be too strong. I didn't mention it, however Gustavo noticed and brought me out the alternate drink I was considering. We ordered the tomahawk , medium rare and it was cooked to perfection and it came with mashed potatoes and collard greens ( delicious) . My daughter was obsessed with the potatoes and devoured them. We additionally ordered the Parker house rolls and the miso butter was the best, so good. We ordered several items off the happy hour menu. The menu was a little different than on their website, as I think they change it time-to-time. To drink I had the Embered, which was nicely balanced, and the cabernet. To eat we got: Smashburger - Solid, nice meat to bun ratio Lumi's Yellowtail Serrano - Probably our favorite dish. The sauce was light and didn't overpower the fish. Parker House rolls - Fluffy, but also filling. The miso butter was best - didn't even need the other 2. Steak tartare tacos - Good, but really small. The vibe inside seemed a little strange. I went when it first opened, and it felt much nicer. It just seems like a lot of the chairs, tables, etc. are worn down already. Overall, the experience was good. We probably spent more than we would have liked to for happy hour, but the food and drinks were good. In comparison to other Gaslamp spots though, it's pretty solid. I had high hopes for this place and the food was amazing but the service was declining. We came for restaurant week and we also had a gift card so I was excited to try it out. Im going to begin with the highlights. The first course included the American waygu puff, lobster toast, and scallop crust. These really set the standards high! Very balanced and flavorful. The second course got tuna and bone marrow, which was amazing as well. The third course I got the Bavette frites and my partner got the angus boneless ribeye. The bavette frites was made perfectly to my living of medium rare. It was a bit chewy but soft enough to be enjoyable, cutting it into even smaller pieces seems to be the key. The rib eye was cooked perfectly, also medium rare. Over this course, the food began to taste salty but it makes sense if that's the only seasoning to accumulate over time. To add on to the amazing food, our server James asked us if we would like some bread. Without hesitation, we said yes thinking it was complimentary. Unfortunately, you have to pay for the bread (and also the water!!). Anyways, my bread that came with specially made butter, they took it away before I finish eating my bread. We ordered some mocktails, and they either messed up the drink and/or it never made it to my table. My mocktail contained alcohol which defeats the purpose of a mocktail, the bartender quickly realized the mistake and came with the correct drink but said not to worry because there wasn't any alcohol even tho i tried it and there was. My partner ordered a mocktail and asked to cancel because it took over 30 minutes and we were almost done with our dinner. When we told James to cancel and for the check, he said it should be coming right out referring to my drink that was already out, but we clarified it was another drink we ordered and he's like oh ok, which leaves me thinking he either forgot about it or didn't put it in. We waited for 20-30 mins for the check. We also made reservations and when we sat down, we asked if we can move to the booths, but he said those tables are "reserved for 4 tabs" but as the night went along they sat party of 2. Huntress is a sleek, multi-level restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating. The color palette is primarily black and white. The lighting is low and electronic music pulses through the speakers making for an upbeat and upscale, sexy ambiance. Our large party of cool work peeps arrived at 5:45 on Saturday night and we were seated immediately at large rectangular tables inside on the second floor. We ordered a veritable smorgasbord of food! The menu is meat forward, but there are interesting choices for non-meat eaters as well. Apps: Nduja Prawns, Tomato Burrata, Ratatouille Skewers, Comte Potatoes, Farmers Green Salad, Parker House Rolls - Everything was quite good. The Prawns and the Rolls were standouts. The potatoes were fried, crunchy, and delicious. Tomato Burrata was fresh and flavorful. The salad was fresh but unspectacular. I would skip the ratatouille skewers next time. (They were the only app that was unfinished by our group.) Entrees ordered included the Bacon Chop, Short Rib Cappalletti, Lamb Chops, and Filet Mignon. Everyone raved about their entrees. Chris and his team placed an individual knife block in front of each person who ordered a meat dish and then they placed a specific knife for each entree in the block. I have not seen that done before and I thought it was a particularly thoughtful/excellent touch. I ordered the Miso Sea Bass. It was excellent & served with a dashi consommé, floating vegetables & two shrimp wontons. The Sea Bass was perfectly cooked. I enjoyed the wontons and the little veggies as well. The broth was fragrant and light and complemented the fish. We ordered the whipped potatoes and the roasted carrots as additions to the meals because many of the meat entrees do not come with sides. The potatoes were decadent and to die for. (The portion was diminutive, but they were so rich in flavor a small amount was just perfect.) The carrots were crunchy and slightly sweet. By this time, we were getting full, but then Chris tempted us with the dessert menu CHOCO-CHATA valrhona chocolate ganache, dulce de leche, chocolate crumble, whipped chantilly cream, liquid nitrogen horchata, fleur de sel MAGIC MUSHROOM pistachio mousse, raspberry compote, salted butter crumble, air cake, crème fraîche gelato, LEMON VERBENA POSSET poached concord grapes, white chocolate milk crumble So... you can see why we 100% opted in, and ordered three of everything for all of us to share! The presentation of the magic mushroom was amusing. The raspberry flavor was sweet and mildly tangy. We all loved how you have to start at the top the treat and spoon battle to the bottom:) The Choco-chata was honestly my favorite. The chocolate ganache had lyrical depth to it and the thoughtful pairing with Dulce de leche and Chantilly cream brought it to another level. Incidentally, the chocolate and raspberry tasted fantastic together, too. The Lemon Verbena Posset (my first posset) came in third place. It was tasty but reminded me of breakfast. I'm also not a fan of grapes, except as wine, so there's that. Mild gripes aside, the fruit was fresh and the dessert was bright and the healthiest option. We also had cocktails and wine. To my chagrin, no one ordered "The Accoutrement" even though I joked about it. Everyone was smiling, chatting, and having a great time. By we time we left, a little before 8, the music had gotten clubby (in a good way). and it was clear from the party dresses that nighttime had fallen. Oh, if you like that scene, a bonus is that Akira Beck's posh rooftop Japanese resto & bar, Lumi, is right above Huntress. Chris and his support team provided excellent service for all of us after we enjoyed "Suffs!" at the Civic Theatre. He was attentive, efficient & knowledgeable. Having been a server before, I know that serving a large group, especially one at an upscale and sophisticated place, is no easy task. Chris was unflappable, and it is clear that he is a pro! Overall, this was a fantastic experience and I'm so happy that I dined at Huntress. I do think it is important to note that I did not have to pay for this amazing meal which was courtesy of my job. Came here for restaurant week and for my experience being amazing during that time says a lot! From start to finish I was in awe since everything was so hospitable! The staff was so friendly and welcoming and the vibes were just so fun for date night! The restaurant week menu was delicious for an amazing price! For our 1st course I loved how we got to try 3 samplings of the tuna taco, wagyu, and short rib! The tuna taco was packed and full of flavor! The Wagyu should be taken as a one biter so you can taste the white sauce. The short rib tasted like pate and I love that so it was delicious to me! 2nd course we got the lobster panang curry and warm oysters. The warm oysters were good and had black masago on top. It was ok. The lobster curry I was so surprised had real lobster pieces! Usually places only do a bisque and it's just the soup. They poured the curry on top tabletop. A bit on the sweet side but delicious. We both chose the scallops and pork belly for our entrees. Very delicious but not going to lie, it was a bit too much. Like the flavors were a bit overwhelming. Don't get me wrong it was good but a bit heavy on flavors. It was a bit too rich. I felt both the pork belly and scallops could have been more cooked such as drying it out a bit more on the pan. Service was very good. Too notch. Ambience was great as well. Very elegant and clean. Loved the decir. For me the food just didn't meet the expectations. We got the gnocchi Mac and cheese as an appetizer for the table. For me the flavor was ok but the gnocchi was a little soft and mushy for my preference. We went for restaurant week and the value was good for what you got. The trio of appetizers was nice. The pork belly one was the best and the wagyu puff pastry thingy was good but not alot of flavor. The lobster curry soup was really good. Probably the best thing we are there. The filet mignon was ok. Not that great and for a steak house I guess I expected more. The mashed potato it was served on was very minimal. More like a garnish that a part of the steak. Paid extra for truffle butter to be placed on top on not Kuch truffle flavor but it did add to the steak nicely. The rib eye also was about the same. Not excellent but not horrible either but a little disappointing and didn't meet the expectation that one would think they would get at a steak house. The mushrooms was a major miss for everyone at the table. We had three people out of the 6 that really love mushrooms and none of them liked it at all. We notified the server and he replaced them with a re cooked mushroom dish and was still a miss. (They took that off the price, excellent service) They gave us a side of carrots complimentary and they were really good. The scallops and pork belly was good but you get three scallops and pork belly was crispy so that was good. The truffle pasta just didn't have much truffle in it at all. Could barely taste it. So service was definitely 5 stars but the food was a miss for me so I gave 3 stars. Wouldn't probably recommend this place if I was to be honest. read more

We went to Huntress for our anniversary the other night, and it was a top notch experience AMBIANCE: The ambiance was great. The restaurant has an upscale feeling, was not too crowded, and was not too loud, despite having a DJ for the restaurant. SERVICE: Our server, John, was excellent. He went above and beyond, was friendly, provided great guidance on the wine and food, and even gave us tips on how to feed our baby vegetables! DRINKS: Summer Solstice - This drink was described as sweet and very alcohol forward, but I actually would say it is tart & alcohol forward & NOT sweet. If you like sweet cocktails, do not get this one. We did the regular $90 wine pairing instead of the more expensive wine pairing because, to be honest, we are pretty unsophisticated when it comes to wine and felt the $130 sommelier wine pairing would be wasted on us. However, for one of the courses, John, who again, went above and beyond, gave us the opportunity to try one of the wine pairings from the sommelier pairing alongside the regular wine pairing, and my husband and I both noticed the difference. We were also shocked we noticed the difference because, again, we are not big wine people AND we typically do not love reds, but the Opus 1 red blend was truly special and worth a try! FOOD: We had the $119 per person chef's tasting menu, which when you add up the dishes, would normally be about $162.50, is a great deal ($43.50). For reference, when my husband saw the first few plate sizes, he was worried he wouldn't be full after, but we both were comfortably full after the 6 courses but not disgustingly full, which is always a nice after tasting menus--you don't want to leave stuffed and feeling gross, and you don't with the Huntress menu. 1. Wagyu Bites ($16) - Amazing very light and flavorful! I could have eaten 10 more! 2. Lumi Yellowtail Serrano ($22) - I HATE fish but tried this because I try to try everything in a tasting menu, and I actually liked this! It was very very flavorful (a little spicy because of the cilantro and jalapeño, which I love) and did not taste fishy at all! 3. Sweet Corn Soup ($15) - Amazing! If you like soup, you will love this. 4. Corn & Tomato Agnolotti ($28) - This pasta was truly remarkable. The tomatoes were so flavorful that they may have been the best tomatoes I have ever had! 5. Japanese A5 Center Cut - 2 oz (4 oz is typically $115) - This wagyu was excellent and very flavorful. It is up there with the wagyu I have had although I have yet to have wagyu that tops that at Boa in LA. The mashed potatoes that come with it were excellent as well, and I liked that they were simple so you could focus on the taste of the wagyu and not have anything overpower it! 6. Magic Mushroom ($24) - This dessert is very unique, and there is definitely a great presentation with it. However, I'm a huge baker, and dessert is my favorite part of a meal, but it is also what I'm most critical of, and for me, this dessert falls into the "I'm glad I tried it" category. It is certainly unique, but it is not something I would get again. It was well made but just not my preferred flavor profile. 7. Celebratory Dessert - The celebratory dessert was also good but not great in my opinion. Dark chocolate brownie encased in white chocolate with passion fruit mousse and a graham cracker crumble. Purely speculation, but my guess is that this chef (or whoever curates the menu) likes spicy foods with a lot of flavor (love) but is not big on sweet things and prefers more tart, fruity, tangy type desserts and cocktails, which is why I loved everything other than the desserts and cocktails. Not dinging for that though because that's a matter of personal preference on my part, and everything was well made, but I would love to see some other creative desserts in a different flavor profile. Parker House Rolls & Trio of Butters ($10) - These rolls WERE good; however, for $10, I probably would not get them again. I don't think the bread was remarkable, and the miso butter pretty much tasted like nothing. The garlic butter also kind of tasted like nothing. The middle/spicy butter was very flavorful and good, but for me to pay $10 for bread, both the bread and butter better be remarkable! Only thing I will say is that I did find it odd to do a tasting menu with no amuse-bouche. Overall, I would definitely recommend Huntress and will definitely return! read more
