Came here with a relative who needed to get some film developed. Service was quick and efficient. They were able to get the order in and had her fill out necessary details. Apparently they digitize the photos and can email it to you so it makes it easy to receive them and you don't necessarily have to go back to the store unless you want the negatives. Went to the store in Kenmore Sq., Boston, to buy an action camera. The staff didn't seem to know much about the product I was interested in and they even sold me the wrong memory card, which I had to return the next day. It's better to buy through Amazon since it's less expensive. I would be willing to spend more to support a local shop and/or to get technical support, but Hunt's is a chain and their staff just looks up any questions you have on Google, so there is no benefit with buying in person. read more

I always try to support local/small businesses, but sometimes they just treat non-regular customers like invisible objects. The Hunt's at the Kenmore location proved to be just that (in other words, bad customer service). I have gone to this location twice for smaller items like bags, clips and straps. In both instances, I tried to get in line, make my purchase, in a polite manner like I always do (because I assume customer reps could get bad customers on any given day, so I do not want to add any additional burdens on them), but from the second I stepped into the store, I got no "hi", not much help other than yelling from the backroom "ya looking for something?", no "thank you" even after I paid, like how hard is that? I tried to be respectful but it seems like I was only buying a $30 item, compare to the guy next to me who bought a $400 lens (even that is not considered a high price item), so I do not deserve any customer service (perhaps I am being treated differently because I do not look like one of their targeted population/groups). In comparison, the location in Melrose is friendlier, more patient with non-regular customers, and at least I got a respectful "thank you" if I bought something, but definitely not at the Kenmore location. read more

I would recommend going to literally any other shop for film developing. Hunt's consistently screws up my film. I frequently get scans cutting off part of the frame and my most recent roll had a hair in every frame. Pretty easy fix in photoshop but it's extremely frustrating. I feel like i'm rolling the dice every time I get my film developed here and when I'm working with paying clients that's just not acceptable. On top of that, there is never 35mm color film in stock. You'd think that they would figure it out and order more so they aren't constantly out, but no. There's only ever ektachrome (which is a cool film, don't get me wrong) and I wish they would recognize this and fix the issue. Other than that the staff is always pretty pleasant to be around, although it can feel like a boys club when the one woman who works there isn't there. I went in recently seeking their repair services for a film camera. The employees on site were not that knowledgeable about my model of camera and recommended me to pitch it as opposed to get it repaired. As a customer, I didn't feel like they listened to my concerns and they didn't provide me with effective solutions. I went back home and fixed it myself with reddit and a screw driver. I enjoy supporting local businesses, however I did not have a good experience at this location, and I recommend another Photo/Video store for film camera support. read more

If I could give less than one star I would absolutely disgusted. I've had multiple recommendations to use hunts as they are one of the only local film development options despite hearing from some people that they often produce blank rolls. I used them anyway and would recommend never setting foot in any of the locations. They have ruined over three rolls of mine over the course of 4 years. I highly recommend using a mail away service. Just because hunts is convenient doesn't mean it's the only option. Losing memories/work is just not acceptable in a field that's been around for over 100 years. read more

Hunt's was recommended for the photos as they are not standard size. I called the store and John was so helpful and polite. Found an old Olympus Is-1 camera that I hadn't used for 30 years; the staff was most helpful with advice and film supplies

Horrible. They would charge you 6 to 10 times higher than the initial price they told you. They also try to fool you. Two pictures (half size than A4 paper )( just print) (they are identical) were charged two times of 30 dollars ( They tried to fool you and said they are different to charge you higher price to ripe you off. They charged you service fee although you are not taking pictures there( just printing). Horrible experience! read more

I also was very appreciative of the additional information to help my life with my camera that much easier. The shop is located in Kenmore so be prepared to circle for parking or take public transportation for less stress. read more

Update: I'm restoring my original rating, since a member of their processing team reached out to me about my recent mediocre processing experience (it was actually at the Cambridge location, but I think I left it here b/c I'm pretty sure they send it all to their lab in Melrose). While they offered rewash the roll, I declined since the roll in question had some fairly unimportant images. I was more concerned about consistency and future rolls. The team member assured me that they would keep tabs on the next (free of charge) roll that I brought in to re-establish my confidence. It seems that Hunt's wants to make things right in the event of an infrequent potential mistake, and I'd have no reservations about sending film to them again. They also offered an explanation for the price discrepancy I had mentioned: Kodak has raised prices on their film, and that some of their newer inventory (I guess especially more common stocks like Portra) reflect this price change, even while they sell some of their older inventory at the original price. (P.S Talking to the person handling my processing was also an important reminder to me -- and I hope the rest of people leaving reviews on here -- that there are people on the other end of this thing!) read more

I had an alcohol-induced accident where I put the memory card in incorrectly & bent several pins of my Canon Digital Rebel (so sad). Brought it into these folks, & without laughing too hard, they gave me a reasonable quote & told me it would take 4 weeks. I thought that was a long time, but since they had to send it out, there wasn't much I could do. Well, 2 weeks later I received a call that my camera was fixed & ready to be picked up. It was in like-new condition & the price quoted was exactly what I paid (no surprise fees or whatever). Will definitely be more careful operating under the influence & will recommend them for camera repairs. read more

Hunt's latest branch has recently opened at Kenmore Square opposite NESOP and is provides great service for their students and the hordes at BU too. There is a good range of products inside and seemingly a wider range of films than at their Harvard store. The staff were friendly and instantly helpful without being annoying - a skill that must be difficult to master given how many fail at it in shops around the world. Considering the masses have moved to digital cameras and most equipment can be bought online it is a credit to Hunt's that they are doing well enough to expand. read more

Forget Amazon, buy your camera here! First of all, most camera have the price set by the manufacturer, just like the way your iPhone cost the same anywhere you get it. If it's on sale, it;s on sale everywhere. So price isn't such a deciding factor in where to by a camera but going in and getting expert advice on the camera before you buy it is! The people are way more knowledgeable then what you get a Best Buy or any big box store, you only work at a camera shop if you're really into cameras! Ask them to make a bundle package on the extras and you'll save big time, they is where they have the room to negotiate on pricing. I suggest researching what feature you want in advance, then go in to the store to make sure you read the right reviews and get their opinion! read more

Don't go if you want to get a passport photograph. I paid 30 bucks for 6 photographs and expected them to be cut precisely to my dimensions (35mm to 45mm). The person at the store was so off on his cuts. He even messed up on one of the cuts and I ended up having to cut up the dimensions myself. read more

A friend of mine from the old country found a camera that Hunt's carries, so I had to go and buy/pick up the order. Everything was fine and dandy with the camera buying experience. Then I remembered I needed to get some passport pictures taken. The guy takes my picture. I pay for the camera. Then he says $21.25 for the passport pictures. I pay and get the pictures. I walk out of the store and look at the pictures and start realizing that I paid double than what CVS charges for 2 pictures in which I resemble a meth amphetamine addict. So not cool. So pissed off. $21.25 when it could've been 10 bucks for 6 pictures that I actually approve. read more

So I go to school - for photography - right up the road, AIB. I remember being told by even professors to not go here. Really sucks to have to trek down to Calumet in Cambridge for a box of paper when we run out. There have been rumors about expired/mistreated paper being sold. I've been buying my resources when in dire need for 2 years now, and there's been no problems. All their color film/paper is refrigerated, as in their other stores and it comes fresh. The guys there are educated, for the most part they're actively involved in the art scene (PRC, for example) and won't let you down. My only complaint is that their stock seems to be irregular - especially around finals, getting a box of the paper you need will be difficult, although they will offer to make sure you get what you need in the next few days. read more

I got a Holga for Christmas and I was looking for a place to buy 120 film. Specifically I was looking for a place near work or home to buy film in a hurry so I could start experimenting with my new low-fi medium format plastic toy camera asap. I had done a ton of research on the Holga during the blizzard of 2010 on Monday (I was the only person in my department that came to work) and I knew I wanted to start out with some black and white c-41 film which is difficult to find apparently. Its easier and cheaper to send out for processing though since it is developed just like color film unlike most black and white film that has to be developed specially and cost tons more. Well the service here was great. I went in on Tuesday and it was pretty empty and was helped immediately. I asked for the black and white c-41 film and was told they didn't have any in 120 at the store but they could get it from the warehouse for Wednesday afternoon and they would call me when it was ready to be picked up. Sure enough I got a call at 12:30 the next day telling me my film had arrived and I could come pick it up whenever was convenient for me. Great service and decent prices. I wish I was a student so I could take advantage of their student discount. If I'm not ordering my film online I'll definitely go there again. read more

I often frequented the Melrose location before this one and the one in Harvard opened... back when film still existed, not to mention the amazing Hunts show at the WTC. I've only been to this location a couple of times but I've always had nothing but good service here. Plus the occasional discount doesn't hurt. the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. I have been a long time customer of Hunts photo. What I an tell you is they are not interested in helping you get a good deal, are overpriced and generally have rude, even condescending employees. Ase in point... called Melrose store today for quote on a very expensive camera in trade towards new model. What they offered was well below its value and quite frankly offensive. When asked I receive usual oh we sell for this amount and have to recondition camera! Except my camera is 6 months old,looks and works like new! I'm done, NO more shopping at Hunts for me. Moving to BH Photo and Adorama where I get more knowledgeable staff and much better deals!! read more

Got my passport photos taken and printed in 15 minutes with no fuss about not making a 'prior appt.' Rob provided excellent service starting with double checking passport photo requirements himself. FYI $20 for first 2 prints and then $5 for each set of 2 photos after that. I've saved mine in their records for future prints. Also got a digital copy emailed to me for any electronic applications. Last month my best friend told me she wanted to test out and buy a digital camera. We love going to the Blick art store so we thought we would head over to Hunt's, a short walk from Blick, and very conveniently located right next to the Kenmore stop on the D line. The store is small, nicely lit, clean and organized neatly from as far as I can tell. I am not very familiar with cameras or photography/videography equipment, I was just there to help my indecisive friend choose her new camera! But I found the store impressive. There's a lot of gorgeous film and digital cameras of all types displayed behind and underneath the counters, accessories and equipment, all sorts of quality photo paper and printers. There were a few employees there who greeted us as soon as we walked in. My friend can be a bit of a handful when she doesn't know exactly what she wants to look for, but Rob made the process very easy. He was very patient and knowledgeable, listened to her ideas on what she might be looking for in terms of price and what she wanted to take photos of, and within minutes had three cameras on the counter that might suit. Rob explained all features and functions of each camera, including the accessories that came with them, showed her how to change out some things, and even let her know about some great deals on accessory kits that came with the one she was most interested in. It takes a lot of patience to deal with my friend, especially when she wants to know everything, know extreme specifics, try stuff out, change her mind, change it back... He did a great job helping her. It is worth going in to talk to a real person and try out cameras with your own hands and eyes. After a couple of hours of his time, my best friend walked away very happy with a gorgeous Canon digital camera kit that she loves and takes clear, beautiful photos with all the time now. read more
