Super friendly staff. The menu is much smaller than before. I actually like menus with minimal dishes. 15-20 options is good so you'll know what to decide. Me and the wife decided to try two new dishes instead of our usual which com suon and pho. We got their bo loc lac and bun ca. both dishes were really good. I really enjoyed the fried rice that came with the steak. It was actually that good I would come and just order that to go lol the steak with very tender and flavorful. I would 100% come back for it ($20) Bun Ca is something I don't usually order and it's been years since I had it. We saw it on the menu and had to try it. We're glad we did because that broth was really good. A good amount of dill. Gives you a side dish of fried fish . It's not inside your broth so it comes out crispy and hot. Definitely will get this again. For drinks, we were excited to see we could get avocado with durian. If you're ever in Houston, this is a huge thing. It definitely was good. Here is the breakdown: 1. Bun Bo Hue (Spicy Noodle Soup): Best around here, very authentic, flavorful and spicy! I have been looking for something as authentic like this and hadn't been able to find one around! 2. Banh cuon (Steamed Rice Rolls): Really good and have the right amount of toppings - the sauce is also good 3. Broken rice with eggs Long Xuyen - it would have been better if the pork and eggs come in a hot stone pot and served as parr of a family meal than a rice plate in my opinion 4. Hu Tieu Kho - decent, missing some signature toppings 5. Bot Chien - although it was crispy, it was so plain white! I was honestly disappointed 6. Vietnamese Coffee - THE BEST in town! Really authentic just like I got coffee on the street in Vietnam! Overall, it is a decent place! I am glad I tried a different variety! Now, I did not expect it to be as good or authentic as Sam Woo in Alhambra CA or Mike's in Seattle Chinatown. But what was served was a complete travesty of this classic HK staple. The broth had no flavor (adding white pepper didn't help much); the wontons were sad-looking, had no shrimp inside and the 'mystery meat' tasted mushy like it was about to give me food poisoning so I spit it out. The manager insisted the wontons were "freshly made" and walked away but I knew better, so I asked another waiter to sent it back. New dish = Fish fillet with vegs rice plate. The fish was fine, but the vegs were undercooked (onion almost completely raw) and there was very little sauce on the rice. Another fail. Maybe it's not their regular chef for the late night shift, but I probably won't be back. As with most U.S. Chinatowns, the best Chinese food is found in nearby suburbs and neighborhoods (such as the fine Shanghainese restaurant JiangNan by the Boston Common.)

Flavored Chicken雲香雞: Originating from the "Yunxiang Lou雲香樓" restaurant in Guangzhou, this is an old-style Cantonese dish. I haven't tried the original one myself, so I can't comment on whether it's authentic, but it tasted similar to what's known as "salted chicken鹹雞" in Guangdong. The chicken itself was already salty enough, so the ginger and scallion sauce was a delightful addition to the rice - as all Cantonese know. It seems to be made with young hens; the skin was fragrant, moist but not oily, and the meat was tender and smooth, with a strong original aroma of chicken雞味. Even the chicken breast wasn't dry at all. The simple salt-baking鹽焗 style and peanut oil seasoning perfectly brought out the chicken's freshness and aroma. It was even delicious after being reheated the next day. It would have been even better if the chicken skin was crispy, but it's hard to ask for more in the US. Vegetables with Garlic蒜蓉菜遠: I haven't had such flavorful stir-fried Choy Sum菜心 (Chinese Flowering Cabbage) in a long time. I even missed the Cantonese greens more than the chicken, so I ate the whole plate by myself. Stir-fried greens need a generous amount of oil to be truly fragrant. This restaurant was packed on the first day of the Chinese New Year; being surrounded by Cantonese speakers felt so welcoming.
