Went to look at a Buick, Joe the salesman was VERY helpful, non pushy and nice - we would have bought a car from him. First price comes in at 23K. Manager (Hunter Edgar I think his name was) comes in and says theres a mistake and price gets bumped to 26K. Sales director comes in and says price is 27K if you put 5K down and this deals only for today. Looking at the sales sheet the slimy bugger had ADDED the 5K down to make the total price 32K. This was AFTER we told them multiple times we dont want the 5K service contract, 1K maintenance, and $1500 tire and rim protection. Manager and director got very pissy and arrogant when we said we'd go and think it over. Joe needs to go work with some people who have a better attitude to the customer. They got ONE star just because Joe was GREAT!!!!! They used EVERY tactic in the sales playbook - kept license and trade in keys, made us wait in the comfy chair (over an hour) did the turnover tactic with Manager and Director coming in, STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET FLEECED.Got a GREAT no pressure deal with a VERY nice salesman at Nucar tarbox hyundai in North Kingstown - see my review on that experience. This is my third great experience with Hurd Automall overall and it confirmed that they really do go above and beyond as always. I live in North Carolina but have always purchased through them. For my most recent purchase, one of the salesman was willing to drive my new car down halfway for me to pick up, which was extremely convenient. There was no extra fee for this. I appreciate the customer service calls and emails I receive to make sure I am 100% satisfied with my purchase and service, which I am. I would absolutely recommend coming to Hurd for your auto purchase - they are so knowledgeable and friendly, and I really appreciate the family and friends touch that they offer. In september of 2020. I purchased a used vehicle from Hurd Auto mall. I was told if anything was wrong to bring it back and they would fix it. I had a 30 day. Warranty. Day 1 , No A/C. Day 2, 3 flats Day 3, I brought the vehicle in for repair and explained that when i purchased the vehicle i was told the vehicle had and i quote " ICE COLD AIR CONDITIONING" and the ad also said a/c. They sealed my 3 tires then processed to tell me that i would have to pay $1907. To fix the A/C, on a vehicle I hadn't owned for 3 days. That it wasn't part of my Warranty. I feel i was deceived by the sales person. He did not disclose that the vehicle needed a new a/c unit. I have repeatedly called and left messages. I got transferred from one voice mail to another. Here it is 6 months later and no one has returned my calls or tried to rectify this issue. I am very unhappy with the sales staff at Hurd Auto mall in Johnston R.I. i do not feel i should have to pay for air conditioning on a vehicle that was advertised and stated it had A/C. read more

I took my car in Friday at 8:30 in the morning for a few small issues and an oil change with tire rotation. I get a call back at 4:45 (15 mins before closing and after calling them twice) saying I can come get my but they need it back Monday because they did not have time to diagnose my car and oh by the way do you want to pay for your oil change over the phone it will be $124, yes that's right $124, apparently I got the DELUX oil change (which I did not ask for) and some kind of inspection (that I did not ask for). So not only did I get completely bent over on the price of the oil change, they want my car back again so they can do what they were supposed to do Friday.....I'm all set. read more

Hurd is as bad of a company today as it was 15 years ago when I was looking for a new truck. Back then I swore I would never go back, but we've moved back into the area and I figured they must have changed. Nope. Still the same inability to provide any level of customer service as back then. I scheduled service online, got a call that the inline scheduler is messed up and she changed my appointment. I showed up for that new appointment, and of course, there was nothing in "the system." Got rescheduled again for a 7:30 am 4 days later. I showed up at 7:20 so they could get going on the vehicle right away and the place was locked up and dark. At 7:50 there was still no one showing any sign of actually opening up the service reception/drive-in. Will NEVER come back, don't buy here or service here. read more

I made an appointment for an oil change and to have the brakes looked at on my 2020 Chevy Traverse with 4200 miles on it. It took them 28 hours before even looking at it. I did not expect it to be kept for 2 days. I called multiple times and each time I was put to voice mail and no one ever called me back. This includes the alleged service manager. This is the worst service I have ever received. I would tell everyone to never go there. I can not believe how badly I was treated. I will be switching back to Ford on my next car if this is how GM service is. read more

As a customer I was treated like garbage. Online scheduler got all info that initial sales rep couldnt find in system. I was standing around for 20 minutes to find out the vehicle I was going to test drive no longer available. I traveled an hour for a bait and switch. The replacement sales person tried hard but when I was half way thru the deal they mentioned they don't take a deposit. You have to do it all at once and finance thru them. We bought a car from them. The salesman we dealt with was good and the price was right. We signed off and took the car. The first time we had to go back because after the 3 hours of paperwork apparently they did not fill it out right. So we had to go back and re-sign everything. Then we have been calling to get the registration taken care of and they still have not done this. The courtesy loaner car they gave us is complete scratched up, smells horrible and is completely filthy inside. I would suggest going elsewhere to buy your car. Complete incompetence here. Update: The general manager Wendy was very nice and worked with us. My wife still lost a day of work due to the paperwork not being processed on time. It is not their fault, but I leased a vehicle from them so I hold them responsible. GMAC leasing is by far the worst financial company I have ever dealt with. Please do NOT lease a vehicle from this company. They never sent me a notice of a property tax back in January, but I discovered a late fee added to my account balance. No statement included the tax, so I could have been alerted to pay it. They would not refund the late fee. I returned the vehicle after 2 years on July 7th Partly due to covid I was 6000 miles under the agreement. They still charged me the $395 end processing fee, since I decided not to continue dealing with GM, now nor ever. Only they never bothered to invoice me or send a statement. After receiving notice that I was late with payment, on Sep 10, I reread the lease and learned I did agree to the $395 fee. This fee equals more than 2 on my past monthly lease payments. On top of that RI charges sales tax on that fee. Please take this fee into account as it is easy to overlook during the lease signing process. read more

My sales person did not return my call nor did the representative that handles the titles after assuring me she would. I had to pay an additional $10 to DMV to extend my temp plates and still ended up having to park my car due to no registration in over a month of purchase. I do not recommend this dealership. I'm all set with Hurd. I'm even considering trading in my lease early and rolling over my payments elsewhere. I went in last week to get my truck looked at since I was hearing a squeaky sound when driving, so they checked it out and I got a text 3 and a half hours later stating 'you need new front pads, new rotors and a recommended brake flush. This will all cost around $740.' Are you kidding me?! I may not know the first thing about vehicles but I damn well know that pads (which I only have ones in the front) are not that much, as well as rotors. So I took my truck back and told them I want a second opinion. Took it to a family friend (whom I watched / showed me) my front pads were totally fine along with the rotors. If you don't need to come here, don't, you will be in the hole hundreds (even thousands) of dollars if you believe their BS! read more

Mechanics can't tighten bolts properly leaving oil on my drive way, can't figure out why my '14 Silverado shimmy and shakes (hint: master cylinder) and don't let their customers know that they close promptly at 5:00 PM. Just a few incidents about this dealership. Left my job in Norton, MA to get to 5:00 appointment, but due to extremely heavy traffic on 295, I got their at 5:12. NOPE! I purchased a 2015 Acadia a bit over a year ago from Hurd. Recently I received a promotional flyer in the mail stating that the body style of my vehicle was in high demand due to the newer models' size reduction. According to the flyer, I was being offered $7K more than my vehicle's value to trade back to Hurd in exchange for a newer model. Naturally I was skeptical, so I called and spoke to a manager, Erica. She assured my that this was not a gimmick, and that Hurd was offering such an attractive incentive in an effort to increase their inventory of the older larger body styles. She confidently informed me that if I were to come to the dealership, I would be presented with a vast inventory of newer vehicles, of which I would be able to trade my current vehicle and still wind up with a monthly finance payment lesser than what I pay now. Though still skeptical, I decided to make the drive to the dealership with my family to further inquire about such an attractive promotion. There, I spoke with Terrell who, after taking more information from me (current mileage, equity, appraisal of current vehicle), showed me a few vehicles that "fit" my situation and would still put me within the range of my current monthly finance payment. Unfortunately, the vehicle that we were most interested in was not current on the lot, so we made an appointment for later in the week. On the morning of our appointment, Terrell informed me that the above-mentioned vehicle was out of our range. Apparently, he had miscalculated and not considered all variables. However, he offered a new vehicle of a lower trim-line that WAS in fact within our range. So, we decided to keep our appointment and go check it out. Upon arrival he informed us that even that vehicle was still out of our range, and suggested that we either lease or downgrade in order to be able to afford a new vehicle. At this point, I realized that my family and I had indeed been sucked into a gimmick, and "man to man" Terrell admitted it. At the end of the day my family and I left in our original Acadia, heads hanging low and feeling as though we had been made fools of by dishonest car salesmen and women. We were fools to have believed that such an attractive incentive was being offered to us, but SHAME on this company for wasting my family's and my time, and blatantly lying to us in an effort to get more traffic through their sleazy business. read more

I bought a 2017 Chevy Equinox on 31DEC16. I found the pricing of the vehicle to be fair; however, the members of the sales team I was dealing with lack skill sets. There is no communication between sales and the consumer. The sales manager greats you at the door with a scripted line of "This is so-and-so, he/she will help you with the car. I will help you with the numbers." I listened to him say this to 5 people as I was waiting for my sales rep to assist me. My sales rep did not have knowledge of the product he was selling, nor was he able to get my address correct on any of the paperwork he was filling out. Unless you know what you want and you know what you can really get for a particular vehicle, I would not recommend Hurd. I did, however, enjoy the Finance Manager. He does have people skills and he was quite knowledgeable. read more

I purchased my Jeep Grand Cherokee from Hurd Auto mall back in June, since then i have received not one but two bills from the MTA bridge and tunnels authority from the state of New York, apparently these bills are for tolls that i owe coming back to a license plate that i have never had, along with the bill was a photo of the vehicle that apparently (hurd registered to me)?? on the back window of the vehicle it read "Hurd auto mall courtesy loaner"...thought it was very odd seeing i not only was never given a loaner from Hurd but have never had this license plate before...after (MANY) attempts to try and get in touch with my salesman Guy and general manager my salesman finally reached out (in text message) and told me that it must have just been a minor mistake and they would look into it, (never heard back), sad to say i ended up paying the bill to avoid my license getting suspended over an apparent "mistake". 5 months later i just received another bill but this time from a collection agency after me for another MTA Bill for the same license plate, once again i tried getting in touch with my salesman and left two voicemails for the gm Jason and still got nothing to this day, not sure what's going on but as a customer i should at least be able to get a call back or explanation as to why this continues to keep happening but they apparently they don't care. I definitely should not have to worry about having a collection agency after me and having this affect my credit over something that is completely wrong on Hurds end. A complaint will be filed with the RI dealers commission. Beware of what could possibly happen while doing business with this dealership. Don't go here whatever you do! Walked in to lease a new Equinox and the nice receptionist asked the salesperson if he could take me and he sighed and said "Ugh, I guess so'" are you kidding me? Okay, maybe he had a bad day, I overlooked it. We went into numbers and the trade - they didn't even look at my trade (keys were still with me) and they said I had negative equity of about 5,000!! No I definitely don't so they come with this number of over 450 for a FWD Equinox?! Tier 1 credit which was never ran...the salesperson ha ha this guy wants to be under $400 a month. I drew the line there and left. Stay far away no one here cares anymore!! When I got a follow up call from them caller ID said "Balise" so i guess they now own Hurd just like they do Toyota of Smithfield. All set. Got a much much better deal (and trade looked at it) at another Chevy dealer!! read more

I had been searching for a specific vehicle and a friend said they had found what they were looking for at Hurd in the past. I would not have known if I didn't call on my way with a question. The most unprofessional and unethical management team. The salesperson, Kerry, was pleasant but had to escalate deal for decision to the manager. I purchased a 2022 GMC Yukon Denali in April of 2022. Unbeknownst to me it came with paint defects that consisted of debris under the factory paint and fish-eyeing on multiple areas of the vehical. How do I know this you ask? They sent me to three body shops that wouldn't even quote repainting it as it wasn't the right course of action to take. After stringing me along since October 2022 they told me that they could not provide answers, or General Motors assistance, to me until I reached 36k miles. Like a dummy I fell for their scam as they wanted me to be out of my 36k warrenty period just to tell me that I was responsible for the now $23k+ difference between the new vehical and what I currently own. Oh, and on top of that interest rates have skyrocketed, just my luck, huh? I suggest not doing business with these con artist. Just like you, I remember scanning through these ratings thinking "This place has such a good deal, surely the problems everyone else faced won't happen to me? I'll take my chance". Well, just be warned. Here's another 1-star review to add to the list. There's lots more I'm leaving out for the sake of brevity but basically here's what happened - Before purchasing the used vehicle, I brought it to an independent mechanic nearby (Anchor Subaru) for a pre-purchase inspection. - 2 main issues came up, 1 was a battery issue (easily fixable) and another was an engine leak. - I brought this up with Guy Clark (the sales rep) and was told verbally that it would be fixed before I get the vehicle. I also have it hand-written and signed on a piece of paper (though not sure how useful that is). - I go on a 2-week vacation - When I get back, I meet with Guy to pick up the vehicle. I ask about the documentation that shows the leak was fixed. He says he'll get it to me the next day. - So far, everything's going smoothly so I trust him (obviously wrongly). - Well, this is when the problem begins. I got back 8/2 and only after going to his manager James Kelley, do I manage to finally force him to get me the documentation on 8/24 - All it says on the documentation is "CHECK FOR LEAKS NOTHING FOUND". Can you imagine my shock at seeing this!? This is what he means when he says the problem will be "fixed", it's by literally ignoring it! - Well, in the 2.5 weeks since then, I have left countless voicemails and text messages with both Guy and James (and their receptionists are somehow NEVER able to find them in the office) but have not heard back at all. It should still be covered under the dealer warranty but something tells me they are going to have tricks up their sleeves there so I'm just going to cut my losses short, pay the $2-3k myself to get the engine leak fixed and report this to the authorities (BBB, FTC, RI Attorney General's Office etc.). You, on the other hand, have a choice! Please don't fall for the good deals and the seemingly legitimate building they have. I never believe 5-star reviews because they could be fake, but you should definitely believe all the 1-star reviews you see on here. read more

Getting an oil change or minor automotive repair can often be an unpleasant experience, especially when it ends up being more costly than anticipated. Hurd Auto is obviously aware of this and works hard to make sure that your time waiting is as comfortable and pleasant as possible. I have been going to the good folks at Hurd for a few years now to service my 2004 Grand Am and have always had a positive experience. I can schedule an appointment online or over the phone and then receive a confirmation email detailing the date and time, as well as the vehicle and type of service. Upon arrival I am always greeted right away, typically by Fred my very helpful and friendly service representative. I usually opt to wait while my car is being cared for thanks to their spacious waiting lounge that includes leather recliners, chairs, and couches, television, countless magazines, a complimentary cappuccino/coffee machine, and free wireless internet! Did I mention the fireplace and giant fish tank? There's even a kid's room with toys to keep the children happy. I've set up my mobile office here on more than one occasion to get some work done while I wait. I don't know a whole lot about cars so I often have a number of questions, especially when new services are suggested or a minor problem is found while in for an oil change. Fred always answers my questions and goes above and beyond my expectations to ensure I'm utilizing my extended warranty whenever possible. I leave feeling safe and almost look forward to the next time I roll in. read more

She had to return the car and when she went to return it one of the sales man got mad her for something that wasn't her fault then proceeds to THROW her stuff out of the car into the parking lot!! as we all know as we are looking for cars these days my lease was up to turn my car in in August. There were no cars out there on the lot in any car dealership and I was informed that I had to turn it into a jam dealer because my car was a GM they were not letting any other car dealerships buy out my lease. So my mom who is actually leasing a car who is 80 years old was looking for a blue car and she had her heart set on a blue car so they finally were able to put one on order for me and give me an order number so I could extend out my lease. It took over five months for the car to come in not due to anybody's fault it finally had a Vin number and I was called by the sales person that my car was it. I went down it had my mom's name on it and had a sold sign on it I looked at it and said OK and then went back in and decided to negotiate some numbers with the sales girl over the phone. We finally came to an agreement and she was on her day off talking to me to make it ago and within two hours after her setting up a time for me to go meet and have my mom sign the paperwork my car was sold right from under me keeping in mind they had a deposit from me. She called me back an hour later and said I hate to inform you but you're not car is no longer available it has been sold. I called the manager he was of no help he said someone was in the room with the car in the morning he said he told the sales person that they were putting it back out on the lot well isn't that some thing that I am sure there was no repercussions to her or him because they wanted to sell and they'd figure they'd sell me the black car that was coming in next so they could get two sales that day very dirty pool my mom who is 80 years old so upset she cried for weeks I still have not received my deposit back from them no apology from anyone that that car dealership so I am definitely reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and I will let them now so this is actually the third car that I buy from them the second car was not a great experience either and the third car was OK and this is technically the fourth sorry so needless to say I doubt I will have a be back to the dealership. read more

Pretty shady dealership. I was their website and saw a car I was interested in so I went there for a test drive. While I was there, they had just taken in a vehicle I liked better. I test drove it and asked them the price. The salesman said since they just took it in, he had to check with the sales manager. He came back with a price that was over what the car would be brand new. I obviously declined and asked to test drive the original car. I liked it so we sat down to go over figures and get the value of my trade. I do a lot of research before I go to a dealership so I know what my car is worth as a private sale and trade in. They came back to me with a figure half of what the trade in value was in KBB and Edmunds. I question this and stated I checked with both these companies and the salesman said they don't use them, they use Galls. Galls??? The only Galls I know of is a Police and Military equipment sales company. Needless to say I told them what they could do with their offer and went to another dealership that had the same vehicle. When they valued my trade, they were more than double Hurd which was about the national average for that car. Avoid this place. If you have to go here, do your research beforehand. First time here for a service. I had taken the vehicle (a GMC) to a Ford dealership (because that was where we bought it and the extended warranty). Ford took are car in, hooked it up to a computer and said they could not replicate the problem. Said that they did not need to drive it, even though we told them the car shimmied at 65 MPH and made a strange radeling noise. So not satisfied with the Fort response, called the warranty folks and got authorized to go to the GMC dealership. Here we were greeted by warm and friendly folks. The service rep was attentive. They diagnosed the issue, contacted the warranty folks and fixed all of the issues (Struts were shot and the linkage was bad), none of which shows up on a computer. I am a huge fan. read more

Chuck was great. Respectful and helpful. He even gave me a car wash coupon for $6 as I mentioned I was meaning to do that after the service. However, when he left for a meeting, he said someone was coming in with the paperwork and I was "all set". I had been in there for nearly 2 hours on a weekday -- left work at 11 to make it to an 1130 AM appt. It took another 10-15 mins of wait and no one came in. I had to go out, saw my car in line waiting, and so decided to ask so someone finally closed my paperwork. I think they just have to be a bit more sensitive with a customer's time. At Hurd 2 days and still waiting for a battery for car. According to them a special battery they can only get in one place.

Dishonest , Deceitful and Corrupt. Save yourself the headaches and stress I suffered . It's not worth saving a few bucks . Let's start with the fact Hurd provided be with an inaccurate car fax form a company I never heard of . Showed no accidents . After months of problems another dealer repairing it pulled a car fax . There was a major front end accident prior to my purchase . My second vehicle I purchased a certified / used 2017 Buick in may of 2017. I was told the vehicle is certified and the GM warranty extended beyond the manufacture. I was handed a certified pre owned warranty packet . The packet included the check list with all my vehicle information that was signed . December 2019 I called the warranty to submit a claim . I was told Hurd forgot to submit the paperwork . " you are not in the system and you are not covered. After several unreturned calls to Hurd I was told mark Goldstein and nick karimidas that the Certified pre own warranty only covers me for the first 3! Months from date of purchase . Why would I need 3 months coverage on a vehicle that isn't even a year old with very low miles ? Now I'm left with a major expense right before chri Go somewhere else .. read more

My experience was as good as it gets when it comes to buying a car. The process was fairly quick, the staff was friendly, I got a great deal, and solid trade-in value for my previous vehicle. Honestly, I think some of the reviewers here need to think a little more realistically and a little more "big-picture." That said, I understand that not every experience is a positive one. However, I've had only pleasant experiences at Hurd Automall (buying and service), and would certainly recommend. Update (9/17): Car's still running great and I'm still a big fan of this dealership and would recommend it to anyone in the Rhode Island area looking for a vehicle or service. read more

One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a new car dealer. I went in to simply have a keyfob replaced. As all dealers do now they charged me $109 for a diagnostics test (really! for a key fob). Then they told me my newly purchased after-market key fob ($17.00) was no good to program for me. I needed a $125.00 factory key fob. Ok if you say so, $250.00 later still doesn't work. Now they say I need a $250.00 modulator receptor, ($30.00 on ebay with 15 minute clip-in simple installation). What the heck was the diagnostics test for? They were rude and unresponsive to my complaints. Dealers are stealers and should be government regulated. They rip people off on a daily basis, but not me, ever again. read more

Looking at the negatives here, I guess some people have had some service issues. I can't speak to that, but my buying experience was great! Bob Hein was my salesman and he was great in helping me get my custom built GMC 3500. I recommend buying from them based on my experience. read more
