We came to Huriyali after a yoga session, very cute casual grab n go or stay to dine place. They have smoothies, açaí bowls, coffee, etc. it seems they make their smoothies next door and their food, coffee etc in house so there was a bit of a wait for our smoothies. We also ordered the 'healthiest nachos in town' which are vegan with cashew cheese , with lentils and guac. The guac was excellent. If you like vegan cheese then these were great. I got the frozen latte smoothie. It tasted good, very filling. There were small chunks of banana just a heads up. The place is fairly small so our group of 8 took up almost the entire bench table available. There are a few bar seating options and a beautiful outdoor patio. By pure luck I found this spot and I'm really glad I did. It's super cute inside and outside (I think there's a nice patio) and was a great experience all around. After trying the nachos in a Yelp Perks event a few months ago, I wanted to support Huriyali again. I stopped in for a late lunch on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Parking seems difficult at first, but a few marked spots are located in a gravel lot across the street. These 4-5 spots are for Huriyali, Faculty Lounge, and Renzo, but if you come when the other two businesses are closed/not busy, you can score one. Beware that this area, especially the intersection of King and Huger, floods even when it does not rain. Plan your trips accordingly or drive a pickup/SUV that can handle water. I planned to order a Buddha Bowl, but the cashier told me they were out of the sautéed kale for the bowl. Having to quickly decide on something else, she encouraged me to try another savory item, so I went with the All-Day Burrito ($12). I ordered it with chickpea mash instead of eggs and tempeh instead of turkey bacon- but those are options for meat eaters. The cashier also asked me and every other customer if we had any food allergies or aversions before preparing our dishes. I don't, but that was very thoughtful and a nice touch for a vegan who may be afraid of accidentally getting a meat item or someone with celiac/gluten intolerance. When I got my All-Day Burrito home, it was still warm. I only heated it up a little and started eating. The ingredients go well together, but the food needs a little more heat/spice- maybe some sriracha, curry sauce, a spicy aioli, or jalapeno? I remembered adding some condiments at home on the nachos as well. I feel like I'm cheating on healthy eating when I'm adding a random sauce from my kitchen- hence, four stars instead of five. I'm an idiot. That's what I say to myself when I think I have a good understanding of whatever's going on in the Charleston, SC restaurant scene...and then get invited to a place like this. Thanks Tom and Rochi for the enlightenment! Huriyali is a bit off the beaten path, in the upper peninsula area, North Central burrow, but a lot has been happening there (how I wish I had purchased property there 18yrs ago) and Huriyali is a part of it. I'd call it a loose mix of Pacific Islander and American Hippie cuisine, but you"ll have to enjoy the menu (regularly updated online) and make your own assessment, after which we will all agree the food, selections and service are all Damn Good! I had the OG Açaí bowl this morning, blended into a smoothie and it was fantastic. I'm amazed at how something green in a cup can taste like a fresh banana with a hint of pumpkin seeds in my mouth. Now this generally is served as a bowl, so don't expect to see it on the menu as a smoothie, but if you ask, my bet is they will blend it up nicely. It's no wonder they have been honored as "Best of Charleston/Smoothie Bar" several years running. For skeptics who think these places don't prepare stuff to order, you can watch your food being made in the open kitchen if you like. I REALLY wanted to grab some Ceviche Nachos, but Chef said it was too early and he hasn't made the ceviche yet. Proof positive of super fresh offerings! I'm going back at lunch - just you watch. Parking is somewhat limited but let's face it, that is the case just about everywhere on the peninsula. In the gravel lot across the street, look for the signs that identify parking for Huriyali. Then you can enjoy some shopping in the gallery while you wait for your meal or take a leisurely lunch out back in the garden seating area. I still haven't forgiven them for not being open the first time I tried them, despite me trying on what should have been a peak Sunday morning inside their posted hours. It's the sort of place where everyone looks like they came from a very expensive yoga class. The outdoor seating in back offers some shade, but man the bugs are for real. I only hung out for a few minutes before ending up with a bunch of bites, including one which caused my finger to swell to the point of becoming immobile and was clearly not from a standard-issue mosquito. To their credit, they had some bug spray out, but it was never going to stop lowcountry bugs. The food was pretty much what I'd hoped. A chocolate acai bowl was indulgent, albeit not that big. The London Sea Latte was not sweet at all, and contrasted very nicely, offering a stiff taste and a hit of protein powder. The food was priced on the high side, but I could see why. read more

Huriyali is such a beautiful little oasis hidden in the depths of downtown Charleston. I love coming here for the food but also to sit on the patio and enjoy the beautiful artwork and plants everywhere. Huriyali is the Hindi word for Greenery and it could not be more fitting. From the moment you approach the building, there is a beautiful green willow like tree greeting you at the entrance. The greenery is also represented in the smoothie and juice options but I love everything here! The smoothies, Buddha bowl, avocado toast and turkey sandwich are all great healthy lunch options. Really cute little eco-friendly cafe and restaurant with a ton of healthy options for here and to-go. I found this place on Yelp when looking for a healthy smoothie and was going to be in and out but when I saw how cute the space was, everything they offered and the fact they had wifi and outlets, I decided to get lunch and post up for a while. It also helped that they have their own parking lot across the street and are walking distance from Hampton Park, which was my next stop. I ordered the turkey avocado sandwich which came with a generous amount of turkey (for a panini style sandwich), large juicy tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese and beet humus. It was a delicious combination of flavors and textures and I would definitely get again. I really liked how they locally source their foods and list the names of the sources on their menus. They also carry Counter Culture coffee which is semi local based (Raleigh, NC). They have a large outside back patio for groups, bar seating inside for individuals and a community like table inside for groups of 2-5. The staff were kind, wifi was strong, food was quick and good quality, and the price is about what you'd pay on average for local, organic, naturally sourced foods. I don't know what life was like before Huriyali's Summer Breeze Smoothie. Pineapple, lime, mint, raw local honey, blue Spirulina, and cashew milk. Drool. I AM a smoothie snob. I usually make my own because I get so disappointed by smoothies that other people make. I've tried a handful of spots in Charleston, and Huriyali takes the cake. It's super easy to order online, or grab n go, but their patio is adorable (sorry, don't have a photo). The patio was packed the few times we went, so we order it for take out on our way home. Lots of dogs too... LOTS of dogs. Don't get me wrong, dogs are great, but not while I'm trying to have a meal. Babe got a Turkey panini (Turkey, chickpea aioli, cucumber, heirloom tomato, pickled red onion, NO cheese, housemade cashew beet hummus on artisanal multigrain sourdough bread... the cashew beet hummus sounds hippie-granola-gross, but it's actually BOMB mixed in with the pickled onions. I got the breakfast burrito, and I'd get something else next time we go back. Firstly, love, love, LOVE how many vegan options are at this place. Everything can be made vegan and there are both sweet & savory options, including an egg sandwich and tempeh bacon for those who crave that sort of breakfast. (although, with all the vegan shit here, I was honestly surprised there was no JUST EGG offered as an alternative.) I LOVE the decor, from the turquoise painted barn to the BEAUTIFUL live edge wooden table inside. I also don't mind having to go up to order my food whatsoever, and I actually think this makes the process way quicker than a sit down situation if you're hungry. BUT... So you know, the acai bowls are made separately from the rest of the meals. So if half your party orders regular bowls/plates and the other half orders acai, the first half will be done with their meal before the acai even arrives at the table. This should be fixed. I take issue with the actual acai itself as well. As well as consistency in portion sizes. Firstly, the acai tasted natural and not as sweet as some that I've had before. This would have been fine if the cashew and seed butter I ordered was drizzled on top, but I was told it was mixed into the acai, in which case I do feel as though it should have been sweeter. I also ordered the OG which was supposed to come with strawberries but arrived with pineapple instead. Hmm. Also, portion size of the avocado toast - quite small and disappointing when compared to something like the Buddha bowl (good sauce - add a fried egg) or the pancakes, which were delicious by the way, although Papa Wasz would still prefer iHop. I did go to the bathroom and it was quite clean, which was lovely. But all in all, I wasn't blown away. And 4 stars = wow this place is GREAT would come again 10/10. In this case scenario, I would rather try somewhere else for brunch next time... and maybe test out some of the other acai bowls in the area. read more

As a vegetarian, this is one of those places where I'm so excited by the menu options I struggle to choose just one thing. I started off with the All Day Burrito, opting for the vegan substitutes (chickpea scramble instead of egg and tempeh bacon). It was delicious. I then went back and ordered the Purple Rain smoothie because I just couldn't help myself. Also delicious. Service was great. The place is cute although currently closed for indoor dining.
