I gave this place a second try because they didn't have either of my all time favorites the first time - the glazed old fashioned or glazed blueberry cake. This time I got the glazed old fashioned and it was good. Just good though. The texture was nice, crispy outside and soft inside but lacked flavor. Ok look - I had low expectations coming into the UP for good food, but this blew me out of the water. We came here for a quick breakfast before hiking Pictured Rocks. My partner and I orderes one breakfast croissant sandwich with bacon, sausage, cheese, and egg, a donut, and a coffee. Pretty standard order right? Noooo. The croissanr sandwich is *huge*- and beyond that, if there's a "way a croissant sandwich should be," this is how it should be. Tender, delicious, fresh tasting, perfect proportions - just a solid breakfast sandy. The donut was very good - super sad we didn't get more. Coffee was very good, and the perfect drink that topped it all off. The only place we're getting our breakfast in the UP. read more

I stop into the bakery every week or so. The staff is ALWAYS friendly. On today's visit, I took my two kids in for a muffin before they went to school. After we left, my daughter took her muffin out of the box and before she could take a bite, told me there was hair on her muffin. I looked at it and there was a clump of hair baked into it. Not just a strand of hair, but a lot of hair. (See pic) I've always wondered about the cleanliness of the bakery, and this just confirmed my thoughts. Needless to say, we need to find another place for baked goods, the staff offered a replacement when I called, but it was too late as I had to get my daughter off to school. The lady was very nice and helpful. We stopped by for dessert and we had several of the cupcakes (they're big): oreo, lemon, carrot we also had a big cream puff, and a chocolate mouse that was delicious. After having dessert, we decided to take some donuts to go and we also got a loaf of bread that was extraordinary. We tried it the next day at home and it was so good! We would love to go back for some more. That loaf of bread was the garlic with cheese and pepper one. We highly recommend it! Didn't try the bagels, but if we go back, we'll try them. read more

I am giving 4 stars for the products, but 2 stars for the service. The gals working there seemed nice, but the guy who helped me was not. He was not friendly, and after I ran my card, he just walked away. Did not even acknowledge the sale was complete. I was left standing there wondering if he was coming back. Then when I saw him helping someone else, I walked over to him and asked, "Am I done?" and he just said "Yeah, when the machine beeps it means you're done." No apology, no thank you, no closure to the sale whatsoever. They weren't even very busy; I got the distinct impression this is just how this guy does business. Not cool. When I first walked in, I was immediately acknowledged by the friendly gal working, but I wasn't ready yet, so I buttered a free slice of bread (dill bread? DELICIOUS), and took it all in. WOW the selection here! A whole wall of donuts, in addition to loaves and loaves of fresh breads, several cases full of pastries, cakes, scones, danishes, tarts, croissants both savory and sweet. I finally settled on a chocolate croissant, a cranberry orange scone, and a spinach and feta croissant. All of them were good. Pro tip: we found the last two tasted much better heated up, so just pop them in a microwave for 20 seconds. read more

We love this bakery so much. They have the most loaded everything bagels I've ever seen in my life!! All of their sandwiches are delicious and they now offer breakfast sandwiches on their amazing croissants. The Huron Mountain Bakery is on the way into downtown Marquette, Michigan. Formerly the "Donut Hole", and great as well, has been a local source for same day Breads and Baked Goods since I arrived in Marquette with my family in 1994. If we need fresh bread this is where we go. If we can't make up our minds what kind of bread to get we also know that several types and styles will be available. The breads are high quality flours, (you can quickly taste the difference), handled well, presented well, and reasonably priced. Although a short shelf life it is worth the small effort to ensure a great, fresh taste, with the added comfort of minimal preservatives. The Baked goods are fresh and tasty. The new Owners change to a lighter style, bigger variety and stayed away from what I call "Boat Anchors". Fresh sweet rolls/breads round out the offerings and I have not found a single calorie that I did not enjoy. But here's the Point: This place has character with Characters. Old fashioned Bread & Bake shop with a very interested staff. They are not Starbucks, never will be, but they take pride in the ability to serve great tasting coffees and love to share "the best available baked goods" anywhere until, maybe, you hit Chicago. Just a note, however, my Grand Daughter lives in Chicago and she says, "Nothin' like this at home, Grandpa"! read more

Coming in less than an hour before closing, we knew we'd have limited options. We were pleasantly surprised with the friendliness and warmth we received. The person behind the counter was great at telling us what she could do for us. We tried donuts and coffee. We definitely want to stop back in and try fresh donuts and lattes or espressos (since the machine was already off for the night). We loved the quaint little log cabin building. Such a cute thing for this area. It was also cool that they have fresh types of breads daily & birthday cakes. It's the way bakeries should be! Scones were soft. Very soft, almost like a muffin. They tried to tell me it was a fresh scone, and fresh scones should be soft. I know a thing or two about scones. These were no scones. They did not have danishes, much to the disappointment of my associate. We sauntered to the nearest table to leisurely enjoy our lattes and our muffins. Scones. Scones/muffins. I sat my latte down. The table wobbled. It wasn't a small shift; it was an outright wobble. A severe wobble. The kind of wobble that leads to fused labia. I've dated unmedicated bipolars who are more stable than this table. We called to the barista to alert management to this, let's be honest, public health risk. Hot coffee + wobbly table = fused labia. The barista seemed wholly put out by being beckoned and told us to "just put your foot on it, that's what everyone else does". Unimpressed by this resolution, we switched to the only other vacant table. Another wobbler. To add insult to injury, the coffee was cold. We didn't want to appear to be haters, but at this point the entire experience is just down right unacceptable. We asked for fresh coffees. We didn't want free coffee in addition to the cold coffee, just an even swap. The barista became irate. He made a spectacle of himself ranting about the temperature of the coffee. I asked if he would stick his nose in the coffee so he could see just how tepid it is. He refused. I then dipped my nose into the coffee and received nary a burn nor a sting. Not a redness about the tip. It turns out my concernes regarding fused labia were wholly unfounded. Incensed, the barista lobbed a volley of insults at us as he ushered us out of the establishment, at one point referring to my African American cohort as the n-word. This is wholly unacceptable. The muffins were fine. The wobbly tables? A minor maintenance issue. The cold coffee? Just replace it. Blatant racism? Absolutely not. I will not stand for it. read more

I used to work here, do not eat anything here, they are breaking so many health codes it's disgusting, do not put this stuff in your mouth. We had a really bad cockroach infestation here for months and the owner refused to do anything about it for months, dishes are never washed properly, and I witnessed many workers that were sexually harassed here. read more

First visit and I am hooked. Sandwich selection are two steps above a sandwich and donut selection are fresh and melt in your mouth. Treats and bread choices could keep me there all day just admiring it all. Staff must be used to people taking a minute to decide because they were patient, friendly and attentive. The variety and quality is outstanding. My daughter goes to college in Marquette and this is a "must have" for my wife every time in town. I mean, where are you going to go to this bakery (see attached picture) or Walmart? I know their bakery is good but really??????? My wife and daughter have had the cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, muffins, etcetera and all were reported as delicious! I seriously should not get anything from a bakery but on the quest for a bakery more along the lines of what is offered in Europe, I can't help but continue the search. Having read the reviews of course I had to stop. Purchased a palmier - fabulous! On the one hand they were awfully large; on the other hand I ate the whole thing in one sitting (driving back home downstate. There is just a hint of some other flavor - is it the deep frying, is vanilla added, just a bit of something more to tantalize the tase buds. I also picked up a sandwich and a baguette. I knew lunch options would be poor travelling down I75 and 127. Good baguette, eaten over a couple of days when I got home. Sandwich was The Erie; would have tasted better if I wasn't at a roadside stop and it wasn't a bit squished from the cooler. read more

We stopped at the Marquette location, located on the edge of town off US-41, and got a donut and some coffees on our way to Munising. Stepping inside it just smells so good and the staff was so friendly. They have so many donuts there!! We got a maple glaze dand some coffee and it was just delicious. Grocery store quality. Donuts of all types, they're alright, taste like boxed donut mix but it's not a specialty donut shop so they're good enough. I asked if they make the donut/baked good fillings and the employees said no, they come from 5 gallon pails through Sysco and another company. Understandable, labor cost to make them is too high for a bakery like this plus the preservatives in those premade creams and filling last a couple months unlike the real stuff. The bread is pretty, and not a bad product. Baked goods are subpar but the cupcakes are good. The sandwich flavors are good but would be better on their breads because those croissants are bad. Cakes are expensive for anything other than a holiday or celebration but they are decorated nicely. Ou of curiosity I asked the gals behind the counter how cleanly it is back there "hmmm I bet it's hard keeping a kitchen that makes this many baked goods clean" and they responded "we rarely see the mice anymore" (apparently there was a prior problem) "but it's hard to clean a cluttered space". Yikes. My kids like it so we stop occasionally, but I usually pass and use the calories on something better. read more
