Strawberry Hollow Farm is a farm and craft shop that opened in Guilford, Connecticut in 1969. It…read morewas founded by Harvey Smith. Initially the farm's main crop was strawberries, and thus the farm was named Strawberry Hollow Farm for their main crop and for the hollow that it sits in. Harvey's government work as a research wildlife biologist took him out of the country and away from his farm in June, the most important month for strawberries. By 1981, Harvey transitioned from growing strawberries to growing members of the pumpkin family, because the growing schedule for pumpkins matched his work schedule. When he retired in 2001, Harvey realized his dream to farm his land full time. In addition to farming crops, Strawberry Hollow Farm also has a small gift shop where they sell various crafts. My family and I recently visited Strawberry Hollow Farm for the first time. There are so many different varieties of pumpkins and other various gourds on display, and their mums were just breathtaking. My wife and I dressed our son like Linus from "Peanuts". There were several spots on the farm for us to stage a "It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" photo shoot. In addition to jack-o-lantern pumpkins and sugar pumpkins, Harvey cultivates giant pumpkins that can weigh up to 300 pounds (the kind that you see at a County Fair). The craft shop was really cool too; lots of Autumn and Halloween decorations. In the winter months, everything is themed around Christmas decorations. We purchased a couple of sugar pumpkins to take with us. We enjoyed our time at Strawberry Hollow Farm and we plan on returning in the future.

We set out to pick fresh floral stems and pumpkins. We were greeted with so much more....The sweet playful house pup who immediately brought us an apple for a game (or 25) of catch. He made this whole experience so much sweeter for my girls! We had a blast chasing him around the gorgeous rows of vibrant flowers and filled apple trees. We could've stayed for hours playing with him alone!! We purchased mini apple cider donuts the girls gobbled down in two seconds flat. They LOVED these! $4 for a bag of a dozen, fresh and hot off the press sugary, perfectly snack sized donuts. They also offer grass fed beef, pork and chicken. We met the owner who kindly poured us samples of their delicious fresh, raw cider and showed us the original mill which is housed in their awesome, simplistic barn. (If you're traveling, remember to bring a cooler with ice as the cider is unpasteurized.) She also suggested I purchase a "Long Island Cheese pumpkin" which I had never heard of before! Have you?! She gave me instructions on how to bake it and make what she said will be the best pumpkin pie ever! (I'll keep you posted). She also gave me some local suggestions on things to do (Old Sturbridge Village, Mass) which we did and had a fantastic time! Thank you!! Prices we thought were very fair and it feels so good supporting small, hardworking business owners. This farm is on the smaller size, but it's absolutely full of that unmistakable pure New England charm and quality goods! We would come back here in a heartbeat and had a VERY memorable, awesome first trip! If you're in the area or maybe looking for a weekend escape, this fabulous farm is located in a quaint town that offers so much, yet is so far away from it all. You won't be disappointed making an entire trip out of heading this way.

There are local baked goods, and I would give six stars to the ham & cheese croissant I'm eating at this moment. (Ham & cheese is hard to get right; these are perfect.) If you're local, why are you not here more often? If you're passing through, as I was, choose some non-perishable produce and the delightful artisanal soaps.

They have Arethusas infamous eggnog for sale, locally made toffee n peanut brittle, wreaths with custom designed bows & Christmas trees on a sliding scale for pricing. I love that they give you the option to pay what you can afford for a tree, with the scale ranging from a minimum of $65 up to $90 for a 6-8ft tree. Many people seem to think this is an outrageous price for a tree but I've seen prices much higher than this all around CT. With the stand closing for the season on december 23rd now is your chance to get in there and get some great clearance bargains and wholesale options.

Lets start with our new kitchen! We have built a beautiful kitchen which has helped serve some delicious burgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders, fries & grilled cheese for you to munch on. While waiting for your order you can walk to the other side of the building to grab a craft beer from Fieldcrest Brewing Company. We do not yet sell ice cream but the plan is to have it in 2023! We do sell cider donuts and s'mores in our country store to help with that sugar craving. We have a stage for our live music! Starting mid July we start our summer concert series which has been a huge hit with the community. I personally love seeing our field covered with lawn chairs and smiles every weekend. We provide lots of games for the kids such as sport balls, tumbling towers, and disc golf while you are enjoying the tunes of your favorite musicians! And when you need a break you can take a tractor ride around the farm! During the week we have provide sunset yoga as well as farmers markets! What better way to enjoy the views than supporting your local community vendors and or taking in some relaxing yoga with friends and family. We still have all your favorite apples for picking AND we planted 250 more trees with plans this fall to plant even more! This will help us prolong our season to Columbus Day Weekend a few years from now. Please do not climb on the trees. We do provide apple pickers for those hard to reach apples. Any broken branches could increase the risk of disease and or kill the tree. The farm has now also turned into a venue for events! We have had a few weddings now this year, including Dan and his new wife Brooke! So if you are looking for a wedding venue why not here! Please scroll through the many pictures to see some of their pictures for a visual. Some things you may notice when coming up, we no longer have the pumpkin patch and the cows have been sold. We have butchered two of the cows so if you are looking for some grass fed beef just find Dan or myself and we'll let you know what we have. A couple reminders: Please drive slow. This helps keep the dust at a minimal, our neighbors will appreciate it, and with all the children running around we want to keep everyone safe. We do not allow outside food and alcohol beverages. Please leave your coolers at home. We are a pet friendly farm! Please pick up after your furry friends after they do their business. This is a farm so you will come across bees also enjoying the apple. Look before you step when picking apples. Could easily step on a fallen apple and roll an ankle. We do encourage exploration! The view from the upper hill is amazing and we recommend taking a walk to enjoy the scenery. And without saying please pick up after yourself, a clean farm is a happy farm. Thank you in advance for coming. We look forward to making Fern Valley Farms a destination for you to come and enjoy with friends and family for years to come!
