We make the 120 mile round trip when we want some excellent all you can eat catfish. We always tell them you fry ours extra crisp since that's how we like ours. They have a great selection of sides and they're all yo can eat too when having the all you can eat items. The management always makes a point to visit tables and check on the customers asking with assisting the servers and whatever else needs to be done. We've been checked on each time we've been there to ensure that there wasn't anything we were needing. We've never heard anyone complaining about anything during our visits. Can't ask for better people. We don't mind making the trip to Henderson. It's a smaller town than where we live, we'd give anything if we could have a place like this where we live. I have been to this restaraunt twice and both times my food was bad. I mean something in the food was bad. First time I had the shrimp and grits and it was gross. The manager even came to our table and said she tasted it and that as she put it something went sideways with it. They didn't offer us a real apology or discount and we had to wait an extra hour for my second order. This was a few months ago so we went yesterday to give it one more chance. I got the catfish and shrimp. The fish was old and chewy, I got mac and cheese as one of my sides. It was extremely sour! Something in it was bad. I was not impressed overall. My catfish fillets were well seasoned and flaky- no complaints there. The stuffed crab had bell peppers in the stuffing which completely overpowered the flavor of the crab meat. The cole slaw was good, if a little liberally peppered, but the pinto beans were disappointing. They had bits of tomatoes and something green that I couldn't identify and just not a lot of flavor. I expect better from any restaurant in East Texas. I was raised here and know what pinto beans should taste like. Very impressed today. We had almost stopped coming because everything was so salty. Today, the food was spot on perfect. Started with some of their hand battered, thick cut onion rings. Some of the best we've ever eaten. Hubby had a cheeseburger with all the fixins. Huge party, cooked perfectly, two slices of cheese, fresh cut lettuce and tomatoes and it came with seasoned fries for only $6.49! I had the chicken strips. The came out hot, hand battered, more than I could eat, with two sides, Texas toast, gravy and two sides. I picked salad and hand battered (not that premade stuff most places serve) fried okra. The salad came with made in house ranch, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, shredded cheese, and very fresh cut lettuce ( and it wasn't that crappy iceberg stuff). All that for only $8.99. WOW all I can say is WOW!! We were just passing thru and stoped at this gem. It was a busy Saturday night but was seated quickly. Service was great waitress came right up and got out drinks and let us know of new items. We started with the gumbo for an appetizer. The only gumbo I like is my mamas. She's from Louisiana! This was right up there with hers. Lots of flavor, chicken, crab and sausage. It was so good. I got fried crawfish tails and the hush puppies. They were flavorful and delicious! The menu has a variety of seafood options, but the problem is most of them are fried. I wish that they would have healthier options. I was surprised when I ordered a side of squash that it came out fried, as well. I was surprised that they fried their oysters. I think it completely masks the delicate flavor of the oyster. All you really get is the dense breading. You can get some grilled options, like grilled catfish fillets, but even those left the bottom of my plate completely covered in oil. I know it might be too much to expect from a restaurant in town so small, but it could not hurt to offer more than just fried dishes. I did ask if they had avocado to go along with the fish I ordered. The waitress just looked at me and very seriously said, "Eww that's gross." Not doing business here anymore. I've given this place so many chances. The food is WAY over priced- especially for previously frozen, deep-fried food. Their crawfish was unimpressive. The fries are soggy. They screwed-up my to-go order so bad I had to call them and make a second trip to pick up the other half of my order (and they were still confused). I found it misleading that when I looked at photos of their menu on yelp and called to place my order for 3 meals which should have been around $28, it came out ten dollars higher. I thought this was wrong, as I had calculated according to the menu. When I arrived at the drive-thru and started asking questions about my order, they told me they no longer have the combo plates anymore- so I was charged way more for the meals and wasn't told I was ordering something they no longer honor. So not only did I feel duped by misleading photos but uninformed when I placed my order (if this your business or you're a manager here- why wouldn't you try and keep your restaurants' social media information like menus and prices up to date??!) One of the reasons I don't eat INSIDE this place is the poor atmosphere. It's the LOUDEST RESTAURANT IN TOWN. Because the floors are concrete, everything echoes. It's hard for me to have a conversation across the table. Horrible fluorescent lighting, hard tables and chairs, and oversized jars of tea that most elderly people cannot pickup. For what? If they are that busy in a Wednesday night they need better and more service. Our waitress only took our order and dropped the check we never saw her in between.
