I have been eating at the Restaurant since I moved back to my hometown in 2018. When I was there eating dinner on the all you can eat fish night I made it a point to ask if they would be changing their fillers because I am not big on Filets but if its Farm Raised Catfish I am good the waitress assured me that the owner would not and stated that he said he wouldn't be changing the fish and wouldn't serve the SWAI as all of the other Restaurant in the city of Henderson are serving even the gas stations. Well I treated a friend to a meal on the 25th day of July and purchased 2 Fish plates that come with 4 pieces of fish your choice of sides specific sides or substitutes are added with an upcharge not a problem here is where I am upset and not pleased with what I received! The order went from; 1. $11.00 and some change + tax now to $18 + tax 2. This Fish that is said to be Catfish is SWAI (if eaten fresh and hot you won't know if your not a avid fisherman or fish eater) 3. The Filets are cut in four pieces ( 1 filet cut into 4 strips) and has been done this way for years and the price continues to rise and (it's not Farm Raised Catfish) Unbelievable! Your sold a 4 piece for $18 +tax but you are actually getting 1 Filet I have recommended the Restaurant to many people family and friends because they were the only place in town serving REAL CATFISH FILETS but not anymore! This cafe was a great find in East Texas. Driving around Henderson and Yelped a place for lunch. It was recommended by locals and it was great. The food was very good, nice chicken fried steak and onion rings. Service was friendly and efficient. Ambiance, cafe style, very clean and comfortable. We stopped here because I read the review abour homemade onion rings. At the recommendation of the waitress, who was very nice, my husband had the phillly steak and fries. He certainly had a plate of fries. I ordered the chicken fried steak sandwich and a half order of onion rings. It was a true steak sandwich and the onion rings were delicious. I could only eat half of my sandwich. Now the bill caused my husband to do a double take. There were some locals who visit often, to go and others, like us, traveling through or working in the area. We stopped on our way home to Austin for lunch. We had the cheeseburger basket and I substituted onion rings ( for an extra charge). My husband got a cup of chili. The food was all really good and the homemade onion rings were incredible...they had a breakfast buffet which looked delicious, but we did not choose to eat off it simply because I wanted the onion rings. My husband made his cheeseburger into a chili cheeseburger. Both of us agreed it was too much food and we could have split a one meal... great value for the price. read more

Enjoyed my breakfast here. This is most likely the go-to place for truck drivers and locals. My scrambled eggs (fluffy, real eggs) and bacon were good, but pancake was only warm and sausage was room temp at best. My husband's over-medium eggs were cooked perfectly! Not slamming this place, because food was good and server was super attentive and friendly...our coffee cups stayed full. The breakfasts are delicious. We tried the pancakes(huge), biscuits & sausage gravy (yummy) and fresh eggs made exactly the way we ordered. Our waitress was fantastic, I wish we had gotten her name. We are new to Henderson and love local cafes, so we thought we would give The Rusty Star Cafe a try. We were not disappointed!!! The service was prompt and friendly and the food did not disappointI! I had a mushroom Swiss burger with tots and my husband had a patty melt. I am happy to report that the patties are fresh, not frozen and the bun was grilled perfectly! Went for an early lunch this past weekend. They have a small buffet for $10.99 per person or you can order off the menu. They change some of the selections daily on the buffet. Everything tasted good. Wasn't much of choice in desserts on the buffet but was included so . . . Ok. They do currently add 10% charge to your bill to cover price increases. . . My first experience here was in February. There was zero waiting time. Seat yourself. Our waitress was really busy but took the time to make sure we had everything we needed. Food came out hot. Good ol country cooking at its finest. Now I eat here regularly. I can count on my coffee staying full and hot food. Everyone has their preference, try it out and see if it fits your taste buds. this place is racist and disgusting! my father went to eat here yesterday and was treated horribly by staff. He ate here with some co workers and they had just got out of work so didn't look their best. They are all Mexican so the workers treated them horribly and provided bland food. When they were leaving they screamed "don't come back". Don't support racist businesses. read more

I was here for dinner, but my brother eats here almost weekly for lunch and says it's great every time. Everything I had was perfect. The burger was cooked well-done but not dry. The fries were crisp but not greasy, and they weren't too salty; I was able to season them myself which is great if you hate things too salty. Their homemade chips were deliciously potato-y. The "armadillo eggs" (jalapeño poppers) were amazing. The service was on point and swift. Salad bar looked good. I couldn't really find any fault with this place, except maybe the decor is a bit old... But it's Henderson. Completely recommend this place. read more

There is nothing overly exceptional about the star cafe. It is the kind of place that is really only for locals or truckers needing a quick bite until their next stop. You will see the same people eating there every day, at the same table, eating the same meal. Their breakfast menu is filled with the usual eggs, pancakes, sausage, etc. It helps that it is open early for people with a morning shift and that you can get in and out fairly quickly, but if you are looking for something special this is not the place. read more

Nonsmoking now. Has a great buffet for a great price. A la carte orders are a little expensive for the quality. They use fish stock in their gumbo, I think, because it is way too fishy tasting. read more
