This was my first time going here....definitely was not disappointed! They were very professional. I had Taelor do my spray tan, and she was GREAT! She made me feel so comfortable, and broke down all the do's and don't's for aftercare. I was terrified that I would come out looking ridiculously dark, but I talked with Taelor and told her what I was aiming for tan wise and she did an awesome job figuring out what one would be best for my skin tone. I have gotten seven-ish spray tans from Hush. I have reviewed most of them about the tan but I wanted to use this review to give advice on prep/post items to make the most of the tanning investment. The exfoliating glove and the in-house made tan extender are worth every penny. These items are absolutely not gimmicks and if you plan on being a spray tan regular - or if this tan is for your wedding or bach party, buy and use the glove ahead of time and use the extender post tan. I just got home from my tan at Hush an hour or so ago - and although my tan hasn't settled or fully developed, I am really thrilled with my experience at Hush. Taelor was who I was fortunate enough to work with today. She was very knowledgeable and knew what questions to ask to get down to what I wanted - being a newbie in the world of airbrush tans this was very important to me! Additionally, she was very thorough with aftercare instructions! I knew that it would not be okay today to garden right after my spray tan. I also had a weird situation where I got really light headed - I do believe I was holding my breath and locking my knees but Taelor was quick to grab me a chair and some water along with some jelly beans! Very high quality tan and professional experience! I really felt the technician knew what she was doing and the facilities were clean and neat. I would go more if it was a bit more affordable! It's pretty pricey, but you do definitely get what you pay for - this is an airbrush tanning place so you'll get a far better result than if you went to a spray tan booth, etc. If you're looking to get an airbrush tan before a holiday or special event, I'd recommend booking on their website a bit in advance. Hands down the best experience I've ever had. I started with Mahriah about 2 months ago for a tan for my senior prom. I was hesitant due to the fact that many other girls have come out looking orange and not pleased with how short their tan lasts. However, I wanted to try it out. Also, it being my first time I was nervous to be pretty naked in front of a random stranger but Mahriah and I just chatted and got to know each other and I wasn't even thinking about it! After it's finished, it is initially EXTREMELY dark, but that is just the cosmetic bronzer. After showering the next morning I had the perfect golden bronze look. Not orange at all! Since then & have been going back to Mahriah regularly! She also has additional products for purchase that help enhance and prolong the tan. Being tan makes everything look better and makes me feel so much more confident. I'm so happy I have a place close by to get the perfect tan when I want! Mahriah is so sweet and amazing! I went in for my first ever airbrush tan, and was a bit nervous about what to expect. I am pretty pale (Swedish/Irish descent) and was terrified of being orange. I wanted to do a practice before my wedding to see what it would be like. She explained everything to me very clearly and put me at ease. She is so sweet and welcoming. Which is awesome because you pretty much get naked within ten minutes of meeting her. The salon itself is cozy and beautiful. She does all the work herself and it is very private. Immediately I saw results. My skin looked more even and luminous. I looked instantly healthier, much needed after the past eight months of dreary winter. Easily worth the 5 star review. Mariah is the consummate professional who knows what's she's doing to a tee. So inviting, down to earth, and overall just a really likable person. She will literally make you forget that you are standing in front of her in all your untan birthday suit glory. Im a very fair skinned person and while I'm comfortable with my inability to tan, i needed to take the edge off my paleness for my upcoming wedding for photos. I was nervous about getting too unnaturally dark, but immediately knew i was in good hands the minute i walked in the door. We were both on the same page during my consultation and i was put at ease right off the bat. I was able to conveniently book an appt online and get in within a week's notice. The shop was clean, easy to find, and very private. *sidenote* Don't let the credit card info upon booking an appt scare you either, I know first hand the importance of this when people decide to no- show someone in the service industry and it costs them time and money for a missed appointment. Trust that your information is safe and sound with her. I don't get airbrush tan often, but i will definitely come back without hesitation to hush tan and will confidently recommend Mariah to anyone who needs it. What a wonderful experience and shop. Amy's work is perfection. I've never had an airbrush tan (only booth), and I am so in love with the results. She is very professional, personable, gracious (I was ten minutes late and she was very kind about it), knows her stuff, and made me feel perfectly comfortable. It was a birthday present to self. My tan was incredible. My fiance was stunned. It is very natural--not orange or muddy--I looked like I just came back from a tropical getaway. I chose the dark tan, although I was apprehensive that I would look like I was ready for a fitness pageant. Amy assured me that it would not be too dark and she was right--it was perfect! I also chose the glittery sealant, the name of it escapes me, but I loved it also. It made me look ethereal and glowing--not like I was ready for the club (which I was afraid of). The sealant (not the tan) washes away after a couple of days, but it is well worth it for a special event. The tan stayed perfect well into the next week, and faded very evenly like a natural tan after another week or so. I will be going back and certainly requesting Amy! Thank you again! *PS) To another reviewer, "Carrie," you're ignorant and clearly don't know what you're doing as far as the very delicate after-care of ANY spray tan. I just got my very first spray tan! There's not too many things I get overly nervous about, but baring my bod in front of a stranger is one of them. However, almost immediately, Mahriah makes you feel like an old friend, and the jitters started to wear away. She put me completely at ease that my trial wedding tan would be subtle color. You see, when ladies get older, dark spots can be problematic and most spray tans or airbrush tans make these spots appear very dark or almost black not to mention the orange, uneven and smelly ones. My experience at the salon was good but I had a bad allergic reaction to the spray and it was the lack of follow up by the salon that inspired this review. Despite reaching out twice, I still haven't received any advice from Hush on what to do to relieve the rash that is still covering my body 7 days later. I had to contact my esthetician and visit my doctor after I returned from vacation for help. If you have sensitive skin, beware! Insist on a patch test and do it somewhere sensitive (underarm or belly?) as these were the areas on my body that broke out in hives the worst. It's been a week and I'm still covered in this itchy rash and am still having respiratory issues from breathing in the spray. Not worth it! UPDATE: My response to Mahriah after her reply below... Mahriah, Here is a copy of my first email Mar 10, two days after my tan: Hi! I got a tan on Tuesday and have since broken out in a rash over most of my body (neck, eyes, stomach, legs, sides and parts of my back). Help! Besides cortisone, what can I do to help myself out of this very uncomfortable and unsightly situation? I'm en route to Mexico so your help via email is much appreciated. Thanks! And my second and final email on March 10, 2 days later: Hi Mahriah, I'm not on any medications and definitely don't have any food or nut allergies. The rash/hives keep spreading so now it is on my arms, neck, back, stomach, breasts, knees and eyes. The tan is also completely gone but the hives don't seem to be getting any better...worse really. I fly home tomoro night and will be back in portland Monday. My esthetician gave me some advice since I couldn't get ahold of you but she doesn't do spray tans so wondering what yours is since this is your area of expertise. I love this darling little salon. When they say judgement free they mean it. I love that the owner is so devoted to her business and get the organic option, which I have to keep my puppy from licking off as it processes, it's a sugar based product and I love that there aren't nasty chemicals in the formula. If I find a perfect stylist or service, I am on the fence about giving out info. The selfish part of me doesn't want someone fabulous to be so overrun with clients that I cannot get in, but the unselfish part of me doesn't want to keep something this amazing a secret and wants that business to succeed. If you have been looking for the perfect tan, then look no further. That is available at Hush. Perfect. As in totally subtle but noticeable. Natural and not orange. No funky strong post-tan smell. No blotches, drips, or uneven coverage. Being the pale-skinned, native Portlander that I am, I cannot tan naturally. I freckle or burn when exposed to sun or tanning beds and that's about it. Not to mention the skin cancer risk. So anytime there was a special event or vacation, I tried every self tanner there is (drug store brands to high end), Mystics, other local spray tans that left me either orange, smelling like fake tan smell, sticky, or otherwise looking like I got in a fight with a bottle of self tanner and it won. So two days later and it still looks amazing. No streaks, nobody asking if I went tanning with that raised eyebrow, no funky tan smell that makes my boyfriend want to sleep on the couch. In addition to a gorgeous glow, the expert application, top notch product, fantastic pre-and post tan advice, there's the owner. Mahriah doesn't make you feel uncomfortable peeling off all your clothes. I felt like I was reunited with a long lost friend. She loves what she does and it shows. The space is small and private. We talked through the whole process and she gave me great tips on how to make the tan last as long as possible. She is very passionate about what she does and made me feel incredibly comfortable. Go. See. Jill. I have had several spray tans. Until yesterday, I was never fully happy with any of them. I was always too orange, or way too dark! Jill took her time to fully understand what I was looking for, confirmed it, and then walked me through the after care process. Sparing you the details, I went with one of the options for my undergarments. After she finished, I absolutely LOVED the color, but didn't like which undergarment option I chose to go with. I asked if she could help fix it, something she was not required to do. She was meticulous and the adjustments blended perfectly. I am not a typical tanner (outdoors, beds, or spray) - I live in the NW and just kind of accept the fact that I'm pale for the most part. However, my sister got me a gift certificate to get a spray tan before my wedding (which I highly recommend!) so I ended up coming here twice - once for a trial and again just before the wedding. Put aside any fears you might have about an unnatural orange type tan - that is not at all what you get here. The tan was a beautiful, natural looking brown - and Mariah was awesome about reassuring me that she would not make me look too dark or obviously tanned. It totally worked - I could tell I had some color but even asking friends if I looked more tan they had to think about it for a minute (which is exactly what I wanted - if you want to be darker like for a vacation she can totally do that too!). Also - for as intimate of an experience as a spray tan with a stranger is (standing nearly naked in a little booth with them) she makes you feel extremely comfortable! Not that it's my first choice of activities, but not nearly as awkward as I thought it could be! I can't speak highly enough of Hush Tan. It's a beautiful salon owned by a wonderful woman! After getting a tan at another salon, I noticed some splotching... well that owner decided not to show up to our retouch appointment so I was left splotchy just hours before a photo shoot. I don't normally tan (I've come to realize that I live in the Pacific Northwest), but every once in a while you have a special event- and let's face it... tan skin looks better in a picture!
