AMAZING! I have nothing but good things to say about this place! The customer service her is IMPECCABLE! Older reviews were under old management! I can confirm that they have a new team in the salon and they are AWESOME! I had a very specific situation when I went in. They were not rude or impatient once. They gave me all the advice I needed, were not overly pushy on merchandise, and the salon is SPOTLESS!!! I have been an avid Spray tanner for the last couple years, but I was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Therefore, I was nervous about spray tanning because certain solutions do have gluten or wheat based ingredients in them. I just wanted to have a tan for Portland Pride festival, which was about a week away. So I looked into indoor tanning. When I did my research and decided upon Tan Republic, I went in my first time at around 8:30pm (they close at 9pm). I called ahead of time and they let me know I just had to be in the bed by 8:45. When I got there, Carrie was so sweet! I explained to her my very unique situation, and she ran through all the options with me and was able to set me up with a perfect package for what I needed. She didn't try to overly push me to buy anything and answered all of my questions! She also gave me the right advice and recommendation for my skin type - as I am VERY pale! I came back Monday (June 10) and the guy working that day who set everything up for me was just as nice! (I don't remember his name, but he was great!) Then I went back for my third session and I met Monica! I explained to her that I didn't feel like I was getting tan enough, so I wanted to go up on time and try a different lotion. She was so sweet and patient with me as I looked at a bunch of the ingredient lists on the bottles to find a good gluten free one. I also happened to have a friend with me and she helped my friend find another salon close to her house and gave her advice too! Unfortunately, I have to take a little break from tanning all together soon. However, I will return to Tan Republic when I am ready for an awesome tan! Old owners as of three months ago was a crook. I have nothing good today about tan republic. If you try to save money and use the lowest cheapest tanning bed your going to get burned and come out coming out sweating because the fan is a heat fan and that's how the suck you into upgrading. THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! I have had so many issues with this place and nobody working can give you any answers or help. My account is frozen with no explanation and now my latest charge is $10 more than it should be. I was mocked and told to go somewhere else after being a customer for over a year... I was tricked into renewing... with hidden fees! They will not let me out of a contract I was never given a copy of... despite being burned by someone not putting in the correct time and also beds broken/AC broken/frozen account/denied tanning for frozen account but no explanation why. Latest "customer service" was me being told to take a picture of a notepad. I had no response after writing multiple e-mails. I walked in and asked them how much a package would cost to get a spray tan. I thought it might make me me feel better. I told her I went 2 weeks ago and she said no you didn't and I said yes I did and she goes no you didn't...So we were arguing back-and-forth and she was grilling me and I was already upset because my husband got diagnosed with terminal cancer. .She starts saying what's your last name how do you spell it what's your phone number she says the number I said no that's not my number she says what's your email I give her my email and all I wanted to do was come in and give them $30 to get a spray tan like I did two weeks ago. I've been crying all day and I want to get a little bit of relief from my sadness and all she was doing was yelling at me and told me I owe them $394 which I do not owe them. When I was a member there the spray tan never worked or the red light tan bed I wanted was never working either so the last owners cancel my membership with apologies geez and I told him I will come back at a different time. This young girl was so rude she was grilling me about who let you come 2 weeks ago and I told her an older woman who was kind and nice not like you so this girl with that stupid bun on her head and an attitude of Satan should be fired. So thanks a lot for making my horrible day even worse for telling me you're sending me to collections and you have no authority to do that and you have no right to do that because I don't own that company anything I felt like shit and I wanted to feel better and all I do is feel worse so thanks a lot to Tan Republic for hiring crappy people maybe you should hire the older woman full-time and have people like her because the girl that you have in there now is horrible. When I arrived they were opening a little late so the guy upgraded me for free. Awesome attitude and great way to keep your customers coming back. Ruined my vacation in the sun! Hoping to get a spray tan, from the package I bought and the machine at the first tan republic location was broken. Went to the one on sandy and the door wouldn't open, then stepped into a black puddle that died the bottoms of my feet. Then it sprayed black streaky sludge on the backs of my legs which now have black stripes. I told the attendant and all he said was "sorry" So.. There beds are not even up to standards and there prices are horrible, not to mention the owner of the place told me she was selling products at 50%off and then sold them to me full price. First chick was super cute, super tan brunette, and very helpful! Got a month pass, she recommended it and saved me some $. Was super happy with my purchase and tan! For her I give this place 5stars, she showed me around to the different beds, gave me options and the service was displayed with a smile!! The second chick today, blonde, chunky with an angel tattoo across her chest was rude, off putting, on the phone with what seemed to be a personal call, super pushy, trying to get me to pay for an upgrade, kept looking at my skin and then at my face with a look a disgust and judging me, it made me want to freak out on her. I used the red light services from 2015-2017. During this time my dad was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, and I became his hospice while still writing lesson plans and grading papers for my substitute. After this my mom was diagnosed with lymphoma and I moved to SW Portland to care for her while I still worked in Vancouver as a teacher. I tried to cancel my service and was told I would need to wait until the fall. I didn't use the service but maybe once during that time. In the fall, I went in to the Hollywood location to cancel in person. I explained my situation and why I wanted to cancel. The person at the counter looked up my account and said that canceling at that time was no problem. I asked him if I needed to do anything else to cancel. I was told NO. Beginning July 16, 2018 (unbeknownst to me), funds were deducted each month in the amount of $69. This is after NO WITHDRAWLS for months after my in-store cancellation. The funds were deducted from my savings account at the bank of my deceased father. I rarely if ever accessed my savings and did not feel the need to check the balance. Last fall I started receiving notices that my funds were under $100. This is when I discovered that Tan Republic had deducted over $3,000 from my savings account! I have been to the store in person, contacted the owner as directed. No response. Then I wrote again to the contact address on the webpage. No response. I haven't moved to small claims court because I was trying to resolve this amicably thinking it was some type of clerical error. It has become obvious that it is not. This business is in business to mislead and steal from it's members. PS I posted a complaint through the BBB in an effort to resolve this. I was just notified by the BBB that they contacted Tan Republic several times but received no communication from them in response to this. read more

I signed up in late January with a girl who had absolutely no idea what she was doing but seemed nice enough so I figured why not since she offered me a discount and it's in my neighborhood. Well it's October now and I cancelled my membership in eaRly MARCH because of COVID, and they are still charging me $75+ a month. Their phone number is out of service or disconnected so my only option is to email their corporate website and hope someone sees it, which they don't! You don't get an email confirmation that you've submitted anything, so you have no idea if it's even sending your email to Tan Republic. I am in the process of disputing these charges with my credit card company, and I am irate. I am not even being charged consistently or in a way that makes sense!!! Unethical, unresponsive, immoral, thieves. After not using a membership for Red light therapy I cancelled the contract early. I paid to buy out half of the remaining months plus the last month in order to do so. Ridiculous, but I just wanted to be free and clear of it. Fast forward a few months and I notice two unauthorized charges on my card from Tan Republic. I call the store to find out whats going on, and none of the 3-4 store personal I talk to in the first few day after the charges knows what the heck is going on or has the "power" to help. They all say they will email Zach (guest relations) with the issues and he will contact me shortly. A week passes, and I hear nothing from Zach. So I call back and ask for his info myself. I proceed to call him and leave 4-5 messages over the next two weeks, and get no response. A month later I still have no response as to the unauthorized charges on my account. I ask the store people to remove my card info from their system. They proceed to tell me only Zach in Guest relations can do that. "YOU MEAN THE SAME PERSON WHO HAS BLATANTLY IGNORED MY GOOD FAITH EFFORTS TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE FOR OVER A MONTH NOW?" I have had to cancel my card and report these charges as fraud as well as file a complaint with the BBB in order to get my money back. This type of unethical business practice is dumbfounding and blatantly disrespectful. This business does not care one cent about you, and obviously (from the review after review referring to the same type of issue) thinks stealing your hard earned money is okay. So I'll give 2 stars because Beds are clean and hot, nice staff. But the price, $75.90 month is not worth it and please please use caution when signing a contract. I unfortunately did not read the finest of print and got trapped into a 12 month contract that you can't cancel. So long story short, I barely used the salon and some months got in there 1 time. No tan on the planet is worth $75.90 a month. Save your money, buy a Groupon, shop around but don't waste your time- NOT WORTH IT!! read more

I will admit that I used to specifically go to the Burnside location because I always used to feel like I was being pressured to buy expensive lotions or upgrade at this location. However, that's changed in the last year and the staff at both locations are great. For example, Taylor assisted me today with my questions about lotions and was helpful and knowledgeable without being pushy. I do both tanning and red light. With consistant use see great results with the red light that I was initially skeptical about but it makes a difference with skin tone and clarity. Beds are clean and never have bulbs out like some cheaper places I've been to. read more

Purchased a groupon and ended up getting a membership when I went in to redeem the groupon. Realized it wasn't a convenient location and canceled a few weeks later. Never signed a membership agreement and was told I wouldn't have to pay any additional charges. Not only was I charged after I canceled and am now going back and forth trying to get a refund, but it wasn't even charged on the agreed upon date for recurring payments (that was agreed upon when setting up my membership). Absolutely horrible. The beds are always broken or the bulbs need changing. The staff gripes about how awful it is to work there to the customers. They never open on time. The phone number on line isn't even the right number and they will renew or continue your membership without asking you and then charge you if you don't give a 30 day notice.
