Despite this, I was instructed to complete another set. During that final set, I injured my back badly enough that I could not walk afterward. At no point was the exercise stopped, reduced, or modified when I reported pain. I still can't squat, my back isn't fully recovered. Afterward, communication was disappointing. When my husband and I later explained that we needed to pause training due to finances, we received no response. Regardless of certification or experience level, a trainer should prioritize client safety, listen when pain is reported, and communicate professionally. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Update: After posting this review, the trainer contacted me and offered me money to take my review down. Since he can't contact me he reached out to my husband regarding my review. I would've liked to sign-on to continue a membership here, but due to my job requiring me to travel at different times, it didn't seem like that was a viable option. Prior to Burst! I was kind of a gym drifter. EOS, LA Fit, Planet Fit, Crunch Fit. I tried them all on for size. Didn't like them (nothing wrong with them, just didn't quite meet my needs). The search continued. I started deep-diving on the internet. There had to be an existing place out there that fit my needs right?? Over several months and consultations with private gyms in Tempe, Phoenix, and Scottsdale- Underground Fitness showed up on my radar. Leading up to my initial meeting with them, I was pretty deflated. Perfection is subjective- and I'd been looking for my version of a perfect fit for months and hadn't even come close. If I was going to join a gym at this point, I needed some convincing. But not in the typical gym-salesman pitch way. I needed to be bought-in. I needed to see the passion. The knowledge, the dedication, the practicing-what-you-preach. The ability to teach. I don't know maybe I'm a tough sell with unrealistic expectations *shrugs* My meeting went well. Ron was patient. I asked so many questions I made my own self tired. He didn't get tired. All of my reservations were addressed. I was satisfied. By the end of the meeting I could tell, this guy could seriously talk about this stuff all day. Passion: check. I was pleasantly surprised when Bailee streamlined the process without any pressure. She also offered me free trials of membership benefits like the red light therapy and the brand new cold plunge! Bailee was so friendly and helpful in assisting me in deciding on how to proceed with my membership choices in a non committal way like I wanted. A gentleman named Jake gave us a tour and was very respectful of the limited amount of time I had to spend on the tour. He also explained all about the included classes and ammeneties available at each location! A great part about Mountainside fitness is that they allow 12-year-olds to join so that means my daughter can come with me! I could not find another gym in the area that allows children under 13 to attend so I was really pleased at this privilege. I also liked that all the memberships allow you to go to any location.! I went to the front desk expecting the staff to help resolve the situation, but instead I was told that I needed to stand by the door of each class and check whether there was an available spot because the front desk could not do anything. That is not a reasonable solution for someone who has already booked a class. The gym should have a clear process for situations where someone takes another member's reserved spot. Customers should not be expected to argue or compete for a place in a class they already reserved. When I asked for another solution, I was not offered any meaningful help. The whole experience felt frustrating and unprofessional. We come to the gym to work out and have a positive experience--not to fight over spots. Mountain Side Fitness needs to improve its customer service, have a proper system for handling reserved spots, and consider offering enough classes to meet demand. I hope management takes this feedback seriously.
