Last week I picked up 2 special order items from Menards in Hutchinson, MN that cost around $900…read more When I got them home, I realized that the online description of both items had wrong information that were significant enough that I returned them. Menards has a 25% restocking charge on special orders. When I explained to the cashier that the items didn't match their description she was unwilling to help. Eventually she called someone else over (maybe a manager, but I was never told). This person was unwilling to consider anything I said, and she told me it would cost Menards money to take it back. When I told her it was going to cost me over $200 because of an error on their website her astonishing response was "I don't care". Back home, I sent an email to Menards' head office. Paraphrasing, the response was "Sorry. We need you as a customer. You will not receive anything more from us." So, not only does Menards have terrible customer service, they don't care if their errors cause their customers to lose money. In addition, and even more surprising, not one of the three people I have dealt with on this even asked what the error was in the item descriptions. So the next person to order has to live with it as well or lose the restocking charge as well. Unfortunately, having just moved we have been shopping a lot so I still have a few of their rebates coming, so I either toss them or I have to go back and shop with them one more time.

We prefer their 8 ft balsam fir, which is most of what they have in stock. It runs typically $80 and hasn't changed with inflation. The tree lot is a tiny bit confusing because it looks like the trees are being sold by the market next store. But they are all from Ace. The cashier was quick and friendly. Don't go here if you want them to tie it to your car for you, fresh cut the bottom, or wrap your tree in one of those Christmas tree wrapping machines. If you don't care about that, you want a pretty tree that us a great valued tree this is the spot for you.

One of the employees (I wish I had gotten his name!) spent a full 25 minutes with me, patiently helping me find the perfect match for the single screw I brought in. Where else do you find that kind of old-school service these days? They didn't try to upsell me, rush me, or make me feel like I was wasting their time--even though I was making a tiny purchase. The staff here clearly care about getting things right and helping customers, no matter how small the job. This place is a gem. Support local. Skip the big box stores. Rogers True Value is the real deal.
