Stopped by Highway 50 Brewery after spending the day at Apple Hill. I found this place through a Google search and saw a lot of great reviews especially people talking about the pizza so we figured we'd stop in for a quick bite and try some local brews. Well... our "quick stop" definitely changed the rest of our plans. When we ordered, we were warned that the food might take "a while." Totally understandable it was Labor Day weekend and the place was busy. What we didn't expect was an hour and a half wait for our food. Seriously, it was well over an hour. Thankfully, the brewery itself is a nice place to hang out. We ordered a flight, sampled several local brews, and ended up ordering more drinks while we waited...and waited. The patio is relaxing and the views are beautiful, so at least we had a good place to kill some time. You could definitely feel the frustration building around us, though. Other guests were getting hungry and wondering where their food was too. From what we could see, the kitchen appeared to have only a couple of people working, so they may have simply been understaffed for the holiday crowd. After 1.5 hours, our 18-inch pepperoni and sausage pizza finally arrived. Unfortunately, after that kind of wait, I was expecting something amazing. It was pretty mid. The ingredients and flavor were decent, but the center was extremely soggy we actually had to eat parts of it with a fork. The fries, on the other hand, were hot and crispy. The biggest disappointment wasn't necessarily the pizza; it was losing 1.5 hours of our day waiting for it. We had other Apple Hill adventures planned, and that delay basically pushed everything else back. Great patio, beautiful setting, and we enjoyed trying the local brews. But based on this experience, I wouldn't come back for the food unless I could see that the kitchen was fully staffed and moving. It is tradition for my family and I to stop at Apple Hill on our way home from camping every year and this year was no different. After visiting Boa Vista, we decided to check out HWY 50 Brewery for a quick snack. The inside was pretty big and they also had a nice shaded patio area with misters going. Dogs were welcome too! We ordered the Pepperoni and Pineapple Pizza, Garlic Fries and Chicken Strips. It also came with 4 different homemade dipping sauces that were very good. I enjoyed all 3 items - they all had great taste and were cooked to order. Bathrooms were clean and staff were also very friendly! Overall, HWY 50 Brewery is a great place to hang out and I believe they also have live music on some days. We had a great time and will definitely be back next time we are in the area. This is my absolute favorite brewery. It has become a tradition now to stop here while we are in Eldorado National Forest for the day. A disappointing experience. Ordered six taster 6 5 oz beers, two hot dogs and two pizzas. All six beers were very warm and quite flat. Yes, it was a 95° day but the beer should come out at least somewhat cool or cold. 90° beer it's not tasty. The hot dogs were fine but the pizza tasted bland and frozen. And very expensive for what it was. All the food was served on paper plates? At a brew house? Thought that was quite low class. What's worse, was the massive spider web on the interior side of the window. Kids had a blast watching the spider catch flies but we thought it was disgusting. This wasn't a new spider web. It was massive and you could see the old carcasses of the previous insects it had digested. So gross and made me wonder also about the cleanliness of the kitchen itself. We were the only customers the majority of the time and I now see why. Perhaps this place was fantastic before but it's obviously gone downhill. We won't be back. read more

Great atmosphere mostly outside seating looking over the hills. When we came today they had a live band which was really good. Their menu is pizza, salad, hotdogs, tacos and a variety of sides. We purchased the 8 inch thin crust Woodfire combination pizza to share between 3 people. The pizza tasted great, thin crust was crispy but not too hard, woodfire taste and plenty of toppings, the cost was $21. For drinks my son and my husband had the Hwy 50 Backroad IPA $8 each& they both liked the smooth flavor. I had the fruit punch slushie $4, it was good. The service was alittle slow from ordering our food at the counter to getting food was 55 mins. The place was busy which is a good sign of good food, drinks and entertainment. Easy access to get on Hwy 50. We will come back again. read more

Great live music [only on certain nights, I assume], nice crowd, lots of seating. Great garlic parmesan fries. Beer only but just to the left, sharing the same patio, is a [wine] tasting room. They are fine with people bringing wine between establishments. A little pricey tho imo, $13/glass. Went 11/29/2025: Wear layers because indoor seating there is the 'garage door' open so it's more of an indoor-outdoor feel. There are firepits and heaters on the patio and so lots of patrons were out there for the music. I was able to hear the music from inside so that was nice. The best things about this place is the view and live music. The food is not great and reminds me of cafeteria food. The beer is just OK and nothing more. The service is is pretty slow for the amount of work or takes to prepare. This place could be a real gem if the food was Way better and the beer was good and didn't all taste the same. I have been here many times and I am always a little bit disappointed. But that view on the evening is undeniable. read more

We ordered the Italian salad for $13 with was basically the side salad with pepperoni finger torn on it. We also got a side salad. Both came on paper plates. Visited on a weekday and it was quiet, but service staff was friendly and helpful. Tried a flight and really enjoyed the Wee Heavy Scottish Ale. Food is a mixture of small plate snacks and pizza. Tried the chicken tenders, which came with several types of dipping sauces. They were good, but I don't think they were a good representation of the food offering. I will go back and try the pizza as well as more beers. There is winery next door that shares the building. We ordered a some tenders and fries with some pizzas as well. I thought the Tenders and fries were my favorite things personally. Not too much breading and good flavor just by themselves. Now...if they give you the option, "Do you just want all our ranches?" Say, yes. One is regular, another is Jalapeño and the last I believe is Chipotle. All homemade. Like I said the tendies are fine on their own but the ranches really sealed the deal for me. The pizza's weren't bad. They just didn't stand out as much as the tenders did. We ordered Pepperoni and Buffalo Chicken. I'm a sauce man. I really loved the sauce on both pizzas but yea. They were just good. Nothing out of the ordinary. The location is GREAT and the view is PHENOMENAL! You should definitely grab a seat outside by a fire pit, that's where you can really enjoy the views. The food is good but nothing fancy. Beer is ok. Logo is pretty cool. Family friendly. Staff gets people in and out. You order at the counter, no table service. They're attached to a winery and in front of Bumgardner's winery. PARKING: lots of parking in a private parking lot. You won't have any problems finding a spot unless it's a very busy day. read more

We received two small dry and over cooked chicken strips. The brewery had no ciders on tap (despite being in Apple Hill). Hwy 50 Brewery passes the vibe check for sure! Its convenient proximity to Apple Hill surely keeps this place busy. The huge, dog friendly patio with scenic views was the reason we stopped, but we'll opt for a picnic at one of the farms next year. We ordered a 12" combination pizza on cauliflower crust ($42), a side salad ($6.50), chili cheese fries ($10), and a 16 oz beer ($8). The cauliflower crust pizza is rung up as 2 regular $21 combination pizzas--apparently x2 is the surcharge for cauliflower crust. Anywhere else it's a $3-$5 surcharge, and this one was average at best. The rest of the food was ok. It's counter service, so you order at the register and go grab your tray of food when your buzzer goes off. Food is served on paper plates & bowls, cutlery is plastic, and the only non alcoholic beverage they have is water... and the self-serve water dispenser was empty the entire time we were there. We left feeling confused at the $70 (+tip) lunch experience. I guess you're really paying for the view... and the cauliflower crust. read more

It was time to leave the city lights and head up the hill to experience some outstanding beer. I, Totally loved this brewery and to feel the mountain breeze with some chill beers is a bonus. I had the pale ale so crisp and cold with an refreshing taste. Grab the kids, the dog and enjoy some hot pizza and a crispy green salad and enjoy the beautiful foothills. I love living in CA with outstanding breweries and wonderful wineries. Awesome find in Placerville right by HWY 50. My boyfriend and I came on a chilly day and with some snow on the ground. There were some indoor seating and plentiful outdoor seating but we chose to sit outside. WHY sit outside when it's fr-fr-freezing cold out? Because the view of the mountain with snow on it was breath taking and there were firepits outside to keep us warm. The beers kept us warm too ;P. There were 2 stairs that led up to the brewery, didn't see a ramp but I also didn't venture out enough to check. We go inside and order 2 flights of beer. A flight comes with 5 3-4 oz pours. Can't remember what I got but the Mexican lager might have been my favorite of them all. Service was up to par, the beer-tender was very helpful and patient. Prices were about average for a brewery. Didn't order any food but the menu looked like it had good stuff. Ambiance was so nice up their, especially with the snow, the view, and firepit. Will I be back? Heck yeah! As we were sitting outside, I noticed a sign for wine tasting... who would have thought it was RIGHT NEXT DOOR. Walk in the brewery and to your left through a door there is the winery. The outdoor seating has great views and fire pits for the cold times and misters for the hot times. It's a very convenient location being right off highway 50. Did an early Apple Hill trip and late August is the time to go! After paying on the bbq fare at several apple shops we decided to try lunch at Hwy 50 Brewery. The patio was nicely shaded and a bit cooler than the farms down the hill. A band was setting too. We had chicken strips and fried cheese curds to share. Both were ok. They had the right amount of breading but were a little overcooked. The marinara was nicely chunky. To drink we had two ginger ales and an El Dorado beer. The ginger ales were totally different colors and tasted were more like sweet water than ginger. The beer was standard Mexican style ale and a bit warm out of the tap. Overall the food and drinks were adequate but bland. The location made it better. read more

Lots of beer options, but almost nothing for the non drinker. I hear the beer wasn't bad. What I did like was the view and ambience. The menu is limited- hot dogs, a couple of salads, chicken strips and individual pizzas. The salads looked fresh, the chicken strips were large and had nice flavor. You order at the counter and will be given a pager when your order is ready for pick up. There's limited inside seating, but a huge patio is available to enjoy the beautiful weather.
