My favorite hidden gem. Great drink prices, quick staff, illuminating variety of music, free popcorn, lots of parking, and welcoming regulars. Ha, this is my bar! I've looked for it on here before...It's not a "lounge", it's the dive-iest of dives. :) Very interesting crowd. Mostly locals, but the most diverse crowd I've seen at a bar from time to time: post-wedding guests, bikini bar workers, bros, hos, geeks, you name it. PROS: -3 dollar wells. I've never seen anyone order a TC from here, but I get vodka and soda, and it's pretty standard, with the exception of a fantastic heavy pour! -Heidi is an awesome bartender, and Megan and Renee are wonderful, too! Just don't give 'em TOO much crap...they handle business. -$7.50 for a "twofer" or one pitcher of beer is pretty much an awesome price for everyday, totally blowing happy hours or exceptions or specials out of the water. -customer-picked music selection...always varied, always interesting! CONS -Neverending supply of old men hitting on young women. Unless you are into that sort of thing! -sometimes the bartenders are super bitchy! -can be super slow and boring. -sometimes pool tables can be occupied forever. Let me say (as a person of color, white privilege) that I have NEVER experienced anything that Gabriella has experienced here, I have found nothing but friendly, entertaining attentive staff, really really good drinks and doing their best during a difficult time, obviously Gabriella's idea of a DIVE BAR is really the Waterfront Hilton or the Beverly Wilshire Hotel there pretty woman. You should probably put that medical degree (as you did diagnose yourself and friends son's illnesses) to maybe helping other mold and bacteria related sickness elsewhere instead of a dive bar analysis. This place is one of the most divey bars I've been to, and not in a good way. Their beer selection was okay, but nothing too impressive. The bar tender was an older woman who seemed annoyed that she had to deal with me, and made me feel like I was taking up her time by asking what beers they had bottled. There wasn't a menu. After the third time she explained the bar was cash only, even though I was clearly sitting next to the sign that said "cash only," I paid and left. She just made me feel like I wasn't welcome there. The crowd there consisted of older people, maybe in their 40s, dancing to Ke$ha and Country songs, and trying to pick up someone to go home with for the night. My friend described this bar as "seedy" before taking me there, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it that. It's definitely a neighborhood bar; it's small, and the crowd there seemed to all know each other. The bartender, although I didn't get her name, was very nice. She can also recite a mean list of beers. There are pool tables and dart boards. There are TVs and a good-sized selection of booze. I think they had a jukebox too. Well drinks seemed to be really cheap. I got a Tom Collins for $3. I wouldn't recommend the Tom Collins though... it was probably the worst I've ever had, haha. The decor was pretty typical bar stuff. I really liked the red, Victorian/gothic wallpaper they had on the wall though -- pretty gnarly. I love HEIDI!! This bar is great. It is the dive bars or all dive bars! 3 pool tables, 5 dartboards, digital jukebox, 3 megatouch machine, Keno, and MINI pitchers of beer!!! Everyone pretty much knows each other and the bartenders are cool. I've never personally been there in the light of day but I do know a few people that have been known to imbibe at 6am. They say it's awesome that early too. Drink specials pretty much run day and night. And they have boxes of wine, yes I said BOXES. Dive! Ha! If you want to much on some peanuts and chips, they may have some of that too. Wife was getting her hair done next door (studio fifty fifty) and decided to kill time. Here comes Hy Roy lounge. Pretty divey bar, they have 3 pool tables and darts, 2 tvs and a very nice bartender named Angie. Ordered a bloody Mary and cost 5 bucks!!!! What???? But what I love most about this place is the customer . service and the crowd. As soon as I walk in a customer nicely slid over so I can have a seat. Bartender attended to me right away. Very good customer service and the price is very Excellent. On top of the fact that they're cheap I would very much come back here for the fact that they welcome ALL customers like family, at least on a Thursday they do. I'm in Hyroy's all the time and I haven't seen any fighting, but I did witness two old men arguing over two stuck up old women one day. Hyroy's is a great bar with a good clientele and I like all the bartenders especially Angela. The prices aren't to bad either. read more

A total dive bar right smack in the middle of a reasonably upscale area of Huntington Beach. It's kind of funny really. But I like it well enough. Nice bartenders, good cheap prices for beers, down-to-earth real people clientele, some a little rough around the edges but all friendly and cool I've met. Pool tables with enthusiastic players and a cool juke box cranking out good tunes. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida long version I actually heard once. Are you kidding me? On the downside the restroom doesn't have a lock and there frequently aren't any towels to dry your hands. There is also no A/C inside the bar so it can get pretty hot sitting in there. The two months out of the year it's fairly cool in these parts it's not an issue but the remaining ten months it is (even in HB). At least the beer is cold. A little homeless guy used to hang out around this bar a couple years back, he was a nice guy, passed away and they honored him with a pot luck inside and they placed a memorial for him outside on a nearby wall. Not a whole lot of places in HB you can get drinks at this price. If you come in around 8 on most days it's not too packed and it's peaceful. Nice if you had a hard day at work. The type of people who frequent this bar (myself included) are ussually mellow down to earth type people. It's not hard to start a conversation with someone here. If you are ok with cash only, divy atmosphere, limited tap beer selection, and can hold your drink without starting a fight with a fellow patron this is a great place to hang out. read more

What in the world...I went inside this place for 30 seconds and the female blonde bartender was so cold and rude that I literally left after a few moments of talking to her. I've never left a bar because of bad service, this was insane. There were only about 5 people in the bar so I really don't understand what could have prompted such rude behavior. Also the prices are super expensive. I will not be going back to this bar, which has a bad reputation (and for a reason, apparently.) This is the closest bar to my house. Went there a handful of times with my friends. Got worse and worse each time. Manager/bartender is a royal bitch. She over charged us thinking we weren't going to notice, and became extremely angry with us when we questioned it. Every time since then, she's just a HUGE BITCH going as far as to talk crap about us to some of the regulars. IT'S A SMALL BAR... WE HEAR YOU! Other bartenders and customers explained that she has been there for 27 years, knows the owner really well, just hates her job and is "tired" of serving drunk people all day long. I was told that the owner owns the whole complex of shops, including that bar, and does not care if it makes money or if new people come in or not. I was then told to just come back when she isn't there, and her schedule was given to me. The last time I went in, THE MANAGER/BITCH/BARTENDER was about to get off shift. She was nasty and rude to myself and my friend and proceeded to talk unfair crap to the bartender who took over the shift. The new bartender continued on with the bitchy behavior, even going as far as to repeat all the crap the manager had told her about us. For the most part the locals are friendly after you have been in a few times, but there is one particular very young girl there who apparently is some sort of family with the owner... we were told she feels she owns the place and routinely starts drama with whoever she wants... which is exactly what she did with myself and my friend until we finally had to leave. If you are looking for a place to go where you will be treated like shit, over charged, and will have drama thrown at you for no reason, then this is definitely the bar for you. Drinks here are like licking the cold concrete floor.. So I love dive bars but I hate to say that Hy Roy's is just a straight dive without much of a bar. I can't confirm this but after several visits with friends I believe they switch out the more "premium" spirits with "well" alcohol. One day we were here and my buddy ordered a Bacardi Coke (his usual), and it tasted like some cheap swil not the usual cocktail he's been throwing down forever. He had ordered the same drink before from here and it always tasted off. When he asked the bartender about his suspicion the bartender gave a clear "oh shit I've been called out" look... I had a Kettle from here several times and thought the same. So aside from the shitty drinks there isn't even much of an atmosphere in the place. It's a big wide open space with a bar, a few pool tables, some old video games in the corner, and a few tv's. There's also a juke box that always seems waaay to loud. "WHAT DID YOU SAY"? Anyway, the place is pretty boring and it's obvious they really are there to cater the residents that live within walking distance and want to get there booze on without getting a deuce.. I love dive bars. I do. Here's the deal with Hy Roy, you have to love it for what it is. It's a bunch of local people of all sorts that just wanna hang and have a good time. It's not flashy, hip, or pristine, but it's what I call "clean enough for a good time." There are no agendas here and I love it. I wish I knew the bartenders name because every time I've been in there she's been great. I suck at pool and I suck as darts but I play my little heart out anyway there because no one judges you. The jukebox is stacked with great rock tunes, love that. The booze is reasonably priced and poured very well. All in all, it's a great local joint to drink, jam, play, and just have a good ol' time.
