Gets busy during pool leagues, but if you grab a spot at the bar, the really nice blonde gal (I'm sorry I forgot your name), will help you out and make you feel welcome. They do not have signature cocktails like old fashioned etc., but they have a basic full bar and a decent selection of beers (to my memory). Prices are also very good which is reason enough to come back. There's a jukebox box for tunes and sometimes if you're lucky, a pool table opens up. This review is not for the food since I've never had it here, just the service, ambience, drinks, and reliable operating hours. Even if they're slow, it's unlikely they will be closing early because so many locals depend on them being open. Bartender (Erin) was very rude and unprofessional! After putting in quarters, some balls got stuck in the pool table. Notified the bartender who was talking to her friend at the bar - she said I will be with you in a minute. She then proceeded to talk to her friend for a few more minutes, then asked for orders and served 3 people before finally coming over to help with the pool table. In the meantime, I tried to wiggle the quarter slot to dislodge the stuck ball and she yelled at me that she was coming. After several minutes when she showed up, she was rude and told me that she said she was coming in a minute. When I pointed out that she served 3 people before coming over, she said that it was more important to make money for the bar (as if the pool tables don't). She then told me it was my last game and to leave after. I simply stated the facts to her. Following that game, another person had the same problem with the pool balls getting stuck, went to the bartender to ask for help, and when he had to go back and ask a second time (she decided to serve new drinks instead of help), she told him to leave after his game. I watched her interact with people, and unless she knew you or were ordering a bunch of drunks, she treated you like dirt - inappropriate, unprofessional, and rude. She doesn't deserve to work there. Cool hidden gem off of Beach Blvd in Huntington Beach. Wife and I have gone a couple of times when we are in the area. Usually on a lazy Saturday afternoon. 2 pool tables, darts, and a happy bartender always ready to serve you with a smile. Clientele is strictly locals, it's a comfortable hangout just a ways from the mess that Beach Blvd can be. Cool little thing, there is an Italian take-out spot directly nexy door. They have an opening in the wall between the two businesses. When you order your monster-size calzone and then go to the bar, the big window opens, and they hand you the food STRAIGHT OUT OF THE OVEN. What could be better? Well, the ice cold beer that goes with it while you are both shooting pool of course!! The pool I think was 3 bucks an hour that day? In any case, we somehow ended up playing for free anyway, so that was doubly awesome. Kits... Initially I was thinking 4 stars but I just can't find a reason to withhold one. I like to stop by on Fridays when they have the mobile car wash outside. The car washers are no joke! They charged me $15 to wash my pickup and it was more than worth every penny. They made my 12 year old pickup look new! Sadly I only have before photos. I'll try to get before and after next time. Quick summary: Dive bar! Cheap strong drinks, 4 decent pool tables at 75 cents per game, and generally good people. Equipped with a juke box which is compatible with the touch tunes app. Just know your environment. This is not the downtown HB vibe. If your favorite bar is sharkeez, stay away. Kits is a refreshing change from the bars downtown. It has a salty locals type of vibe. The crowd is a bit older and diverse, but with that said I have rarely had an issue with anybody there (the one small issue I did have was with a league pool player who I have never seen there when there was no league play). The staff has always been nice. They are always ready and willing to chat it up if it is slow enough. They have a hole in the wall connecting them to the pizza place next door. Pretty cool! Both the pizza/Italian food and the bar food is pretty good. Drinks are strong and the price is right. For $6 you can get a small pitcher (of Stella - other beers may vary) which must be 32-34 oz because it fills 2 pints and a little more to spare. We went here a few months back, the service was great and the rosemary steak and fries was awesome. But our credit card bill was almost doubled by Amanda the bartender. After reading everyone's reviews I felt that it was important to chime in and tell about our experience too. We immediately called the next day when we saw the charge. She said no that was accurate. We knew it was not.....after speaking to the owner he quickly corrected it. I believe he knows what a rip off she is. We left a $30 tip apparently that wasn't enough and she felt we needed to be ripped off for an additional $60 . They lost what could of been 2 regular customers since it's in walking distance from us. Youd think management would get a clue after reading all the reviews. read more

Went here because I found myself in Huntington Beach on a Saturday night (shudder) and this place was closest to where I was staying. This dive bar was a delightful treat away from the Huntington Beach bars near the main beach area I explored in my twenties. Erin was a great bartender with a great attitude, and empathetic to boot. She was just as dismayed as we were (if not more) at the fact my group had just cone from a seven-hour dry wedding, and helped save the night. So I guess I consider myself somewhat of a dive bar aficionado. Been to many of 'em over the years and I think I can provide insight into a world that is "The Dive Bar Scene". I've been coming to "Kit's Place" for many years. In fact the place used to be called "Lucky Johns #1" back in the day (LJ's #3/#4 are still located on Beach Blvd in both Stanton and Fullerton). There is a fine line that makes a Dive Bar great and one that is just a trashy, loser filled, mess. Kit's Place is a fun bar with many longtime locals, a few drunks, cheap stiff drinks, and from time to time a cute bartender or two. They do serve food on weekends and in the afternoon but the quality really depends on who is in the back cooking. It's kind of a hit or miss thing. They also often times have potlucks which some of the locals and bartenders bring in things. It's location also isn't so bad (Beach/Yorktown in HB). But if you plan on boozing make sure you ride a bike, have a DD or take a cab because it can be bust for cops. There is an internet jukebox, a few pool tables and darts to keep you occupied as you kill brain cells. The Bar: Unable to locate on Google maps, this spot was formerly Lucky John's #1. Located on the Northeast corner of Beach Blvd and Yorktown in the northernmost end of a strip mall, behind Chevron. Inside: To the left of the entrance you will find the bar, with an open kitchen visible to the public. To the right, 3 pool tables, Golden Tee and a non-operational TV. Don't stress about the broken TV, there are 17.. yes, I said SEVENTEEN other ones. In the rear, you will find yet another pool table, the TouchTunes jukebox, the ATM, 3 electronic dart boards, the restrooms and various table seating. The Crowd: First person I noticed in here tonight was a guy with a jet black mohawk and bleach blonde hair on the sides, and a wicked handlebar mustache, though he was camera shy, his friend however (see below)... I have no words. As for the rest of the crowd, they're cool. Careful about the cook, he likes to give full mouth kisses to the women you are with. Creepy or ultra friendly, not sure which. Service: Both times tonight, were quick. 2nd time around was busier but service was fast and delivered with a smile. Prices: $9 domestic pitchers, $11.50 import, $6 Fireball shots, Entertainment: 4 Pool tables, 3 dartboards, TouchTunes Jukebox, 2 bar top games, 18 TV's. Restroom: Nothing to be desired. Spacious, but single occupant, which, in a bar, should not be. Bright blue walls, with photos of fighter jets and the classic condom machine, loaded with 50 cent cheesy pick-up lines. (example: Hand her/him this piece of paper that says, "If you want to go home with me, give me a smile, if not, tear it up and throw it in my face". Like I said, cheesy. Bartender: Tonight was Cindy. Tattoos, black hair... all around hot, and super nice! Ask about her specialty shot...it'll knock you on your ass. Closing statement: We came in at about 8pm...it was dead. We skipped out to Johnny's Saloon to catch Howdy Doodie time, which was cancelled for reasons out of their control. To catch the true culture of Kit's, come in around 11:30pm. Oh, and try the sliders... they are either really good, or we were really drunk. Oh, and the review right before this one...he was clearly having a bad day... this place is awesome! read more
