Since I live in Raytown (where they have a very nice Hy-Vee) I seldom visit the 40 Highway Hy-Vee store location, but I am always impressed when I walk in the doors. It seems to be Hy-Vee on steroids as far as size and mass of merchandise choice. However, today, I want to compliment their Salad Bar. DD#1 and I were working out at Planet Fitness and our poor planning allowed both of us to neglect having anything to eat before our session, so we were pretty hungry by the time we walked out the door. It turns out Hy-Vee has a very well stocked Salad Bar. All the fruits and veggies were super fresh and there were an excellent selection of 'add-ons' and at least eight types of salads, such as pea salad, broccoli salad, potato, macaroni as well as several others. Protein sources were plentiful, as well, and included julienned ham, sliced grilled chicken breast, hard boiled eggs and more than one type of shredded cheese as well as red kidney and garbanzo beans. The only minor down side of our experience was that they had neglected to put more dinner size plates out after the lunch rush and, although, another diner pointed that out to a deli employee, no large plates ever appeared during the time we were there. Not a huge problem and I would definitely go to the salad bar again one of these days. read more

First time coming here and visiting a Hy-Vee store in the Kansas City area. This store had a very wide selection of grocery items nutritional bars and energy drinks that I was mainly looking for. This store has a little diner and plenty of hot food items that you can buy in store as well. Store is very clean and extremely well stocked. Great choices! Downfall is cashiers bag the groceries but don't help load in your cart. Instead, they start scan the items from next customer, and mix with my groceries! I should have just kept putting things into my cart, but, I am an honest person! lol! All a while, the manager is just standing there watching customers load their own carts, not offering to help! When I passed by him I said" this store doesn't offer baggers?" He said, "they are all outside getting shopping carts!" I didn't see one employee outside when I exited! They did keep paging Jose every few minutes to come up front while I was in the store shopping. No other name, just Jose! lol! read more

I came to the store in search of artisan cheese, and I was pleased to find a massive cheese counter. I had hoped to find more local cheeses, but they did have several from Hemme Brothers, so that was great. The selection of quality Wisconsin cheeses was strong. On 11/22/2024 We had our wedding at The Pavilion Space Event, for our catering we choose hyvee off of Noland rd. We choose a buffet Style for our wedding, and we went with the taco bar. The Taco Bar was really good, it came with beef, chicken, rice, beans, cheese, lettuce, Pico, sour cream, taco shells, and it comes with a dessert of your choice. We also choose to have the stay service as well and Everyone was talking about how good the food was all night. We also had hyvee bring all of our drinks and ice! Horrible conditions with parking lot. The store is constantly parking their catering trucks next to the front entrances. The manager was not as concerned as he first appeared to be - saying that customer safety was one of his top concerns. The very next day they had a tractor trailer parked up against the building on the sidewalk.... both ends had 2 feet to the entrance. Cars are supposed to stop for pedestrians using those crosswalks but drivers cannot see around their trucks while approaching the crosswalks. The manager's excuse for this - "We are having a seafood promotion and the trailer will be moved after the weekend" This told me that their promotions are more important than customer safety. read more

Hy-Vee took over the dilapidated K-mart building on Noland Road and 40 highway. It seemed to take forever for it to be rebuilt, then suddenly, it came to life. To this day, Hy-Vee remains bright, with pretty produce, (yes, produce can and is pretty), mouthwatering fresh seafood, and a dairy section that is always full. The frozen food sections are stocked and kept up to par. The bakery section in the back of the store is really good. They bake cakes to order, which I've also eaten. Their cakes are decorated very well. Usually there's a wedding cake on display at the very back of the bakery. If you're lucky, get there in the mid morning,and bakery samples await you. The produce includes an organic section that's not overly priced. The healthy food's area is quite like a small version of Whole Food's market. The prices in the vegetarian food area, near the healthy food section are worth checking before heading to an organic food's store. I always scan the magazines to see what's available. Also, the pharmacy aisles and prescriptions are fairly priced. The delicatessen area and eating area are clean,and the food is good. The staff are great. Very helpful, and polite. The store is huge, and there's so much to see and buy. Even the florist area is bright, and pretty. Don't forget Starbucks! I couldn't ask for anything else in a grocery store, that is more than just a grocery store. read more

Usually when I go to Hy-Vee I have great customer service but I didn't even go to this Hy-Vee I called and made a cake order and I got the most unprofessional person over the phone taking my cake order first of all they couldn't stop talking to their friends and joking around and kept interrupting me every time I told them what I wanted on the cake after they had told me go ahead each time and then wasn't even prepared to take my order or didn't even know what cake I was talking about Or design and was being rude about it and on top of that they try to correct me on my own kids name !!! when ask if I wanted anything written on the cake ! at that point I was scared to even see what this cake is gonna even be so I hung up took my Business elsewhere you're not gonna mess up my kids' 2 year old birthday cake just because you can't do your dam job right! read more

HyVee is known for having excellent customer service. Most locations are very friendly. For some reason this location is not as friendly as others I have frequented. Soon as I entered the liquor department (which has its own entrance) I noticed it was empty. There was no line and two employees standing next to the registers. Neither one greeted me with a "hello" or even a smile. I found what I was looking for quickly and got back to the register, still no line. Still no pleasantries or small talk. I did however get a "Thanks come again" but that was it. Poor customer service. read more

Not a single visit goes by that I am not welcomed by a helpful worker; they're always smiling! The simple store layout makes everything easy to find. The healthy, organic section is a nice bonus. Came here today to eat sushi. Walked up to the Chinese/sushi bar to order and asked if I can get a fresh roll (even though one girl was making rolls at the time) but upon asking they both said no and that the rolls already out on display for sale were fresh. When in fact were made this morning as in the time stamped on the sushi. The other girl (not making the rolls working in the Chinese department laughed and made a rude remark "what do you want me to do, make it in front of you? They are fresh." Im not a fan of thinly sliced deli meats being stacked in a heap and stuffed into plastic. I come here often mostly to see what's on sale. I do visit with some of the employee's up here. You could consider me a regular. I was recently up to make a deposit at the bank. Because I was parked out by the wine and spirits I was leaving through there. I was making small talk with the assistant manager, Kevin. Upon making a sly joke (at my own expense mind you) he became very hostile and confrontational. He started to approach in a threatening manner till I mentioned I know a few higher ups. He backed away with his arms folded and acted very unprofessional including his attitude. Let's be honest, actions speak louder than words and there was no need for any of that. Whatever was going on with him he could've handled better and more professional. I called multiple times till the front desk manager, a young man who gave the impression that this wasn't the first time someone's had an issue (or rather complaint) with, Kevin. The young man sent me to another manager, Rob. Rob and I talked again that same week, about 3-4 days later. Rob informed me, he spoke to everyone and had to remind them to smile and treat customer's the way they too would want to be treated. read more

I prefer this Hyvee out of all their locations. Plus, this is actually my grocery store of choice in the entire metro area. The store is always clean, contains fresh produce and product and lines are usually pretty speedy. If I have a question or need help, I usually get what I need. My only suggestion is that the "younger" staff needs to work on their customer service skills. I love Hyvee's motto: "Where there's a helpful smile in every aisle." Smile more! And also, like ANY STORE, watch each item being scanned and check your receipt when you're finished. I have been double charged for a couple items maybe two times. Hyvee will compensate for the double charge, but it is a little annoying. This can happen anywhere. Overall, I enjoy coming to this location. It is my grocery store of choice. read more

I had forgotten how awesome Hy-Vee's are. The grocery area was standard, but they had a nice natural foods section and the deli/dine-in area was fantastic. They had chinese food, an assortment of Italian food, BBQ, fresh sandwiches and a salad bar that went on for miles. This store doesn't deliver, but I was ok with picking up my groceries. This is a very convenient option for those who don't have time to shop or those who don't want to drag children along. Its an ok store, but I liked it better before the remodel. Now the salad bar is no longer self serve, I really dont need to sit and tell an employee how much of everything I want on my salad. The cheese isle is split into different areas now also. Sliced and block cheese in one isle, and shredded cheese in a different isle around the corner, canned foods are set up in a similar fashion. The whole store just feels more cramped, and crowded. I thought I would get used to it, but over a year later, it still is a worse shopping experience. Our family tried online shopping and pickup at the store, but beware if you do this. They expect a tip, and let me know both times that we tried, that they are allowed to take tips. I would expect an Employee owned store to pay their employees enough to not require a tip, and it mentioned nothing about tipping on the website. So, if anyone from the HyVee management team sees this please pay your employees enough, so that shoppers aren't expected to cover their wages. I expect that at a restaurant, not at a grocer. read more
