The outside is in a little dowtown area and cutie. When you walk in you feel a nice coffee shop vibe. The pricing is a bit high. I got an large iced pumpkin spice oatmilk latte and it was $8.25.. Definitly a bit pricey and the pumpkin loaf was $5. We also got a bagel that was $4.75 and the bottom was unfortunately burnt. The coffee itself was decent. We enjoyed our visit to Main Street Coffeehouse! As soon as you walk in the door you're greeted with a beautiful, historic building that gives off cozy small-town coffee shop vibes. The staff were so kind and helpful, offering suggestions and customizing our drinks to how we like it. We got an eggnog latte and a peppermint mocha (1/2 sweet). The coffee was great, our drinks were definitely on the sweeter side despite asking for it to be 1/2 sweet. If you like your coffee not as sweet, I'd recommend asking for less syrup/sauce flavor. An old high ceiling building with wooden floors a few doors off of the historic Independence square. Main Street has been around a few years and I've always popped in on those rare visits to the downtown area. Yesterday I ordered off the seasonal menu and had The Eye of Sauron - a spicy strawberry mocha iced. Obviously I'm not into science fiction / fantasy since I had to ask what is an Eye of Sauron (it's a reference to The Lord of the Rings for my fellow nerds - or in this case non-nerds). I was a bit taken back by the spicy peppery bite with my first few sips, but half way through I was loving it. They use Broadway Roasters for bean sourcing. The other day I stopped in to try out this coffee place. They had some food items and bakery items, but nothing gluten-free. The baristas were friendly and helpful and pointed out a bakery down the street that might have gluten-free bakery items. The frappe that my mom got was pretty good and the oat milk caramel latte that I got was just OK. We both felt like it was absolutely freezing in the café, and it was rather dark. About halfway through our visit, they turned on some music which was better for the ambience. They had some games that you could use also. We stopped here for the first time the other week. We were in the area running an errand and popped in to grab coffee and breakfast. It has a very laid-back chill vibe overall which was nice because it was early and we weren't in a very talkative energetic mood. The staff was super nice and we both ordered cold brew. There were a few other tables of people and it wasn't too crowded. We were hoping to get some food but didn't see food on the menu, and we were so tried we didn't even think to ask if they carried food beyond a couple of pastries in the pastry box. After we ordered and got our coffee, we noticed one of the tables had trays of food they were enjoying. I just stopped into Main Street Coffee House and ordered a Chai Latte. The business was slightly busy, but after I ordered my drink was made in a very short time. From my observation they seem very efficient and my Chai latte was perfect. I noticed they do have bring and lunch sandwiches but I didn't try them. From what I see, I imagine the sandwiches would be very good. Next time I come here, I will try the grilled cheese sandwich. It has been several years since I went to Main Street Coffee House. I don't think I have written a review of it. It was stop number 3 on today's coffee crawl. Mr. G. wanted a diet coke and they had Coke, Sprite, and several varieties of Polly's Pop. No diet soda. The barista working the counter dismissed his question about diet pop, so Mr. G. didn't get anything on this stop. I saw that they offered an eggnog latte (The Father Christmas), which I have had difficulty finding this season. I ordered mine iced. It was a bit spendy at $5.99 for a 16 oz latte served in a styrofoam cup with a paper straw. No nutmeg added to the top and it wasn't mixed very well (so a lot of eggnog on the bottom and espresso on the top). The shop was crowded and low tables and chairs were taken. Mr. G. asked about some seating near the fireplace in club chairs, and the staff said those seats were taken (by the staff) who had gotten up to serve customers, so there was no comfortable seating for two, who have difficulty sitting in bistro chairs and bistro tables. Because the seating was not available I took my latte to go. They do have some cool merch. I saw a couple of interesting mugs. This was not a friendly experience. I would not call the environment wecoming, cozy or friendly, and probably will not be back. read more

Fun little coffee shop within the Independence Square. I've only been in once in the afternoon for a meeting but enjoyed my Hugo Chai tea and the open atmosphere. I love finding a hyper-local coffee shop when I can and this fits the bill. I was already pretty jazzed up on caffeine so I perused the tea list and smoothie list instead. Love that they use the quality teas from Hugo which I believe is just north of the river in KC. Can't speak to the coffee yet, but looks like they carry Messenger (who doesn't seemingly anymore) and that's always solid. read more

Exiting the bus on Truman in Independence, the cab was taking far too long and it was extremely cold, so I started walking. As I came across Main St., I noticed a little storefront coffee shop and went inside to warm up and have a cup of coffee. The first thing I noticed was how extraordinarily friendly all of the staff were. They were helpful, professional and very courteous. I love that. The decor in the shop was great too, with a rustic, low-key vibe and a variety of tables and furniture to choose from. The house coffee was very good and smooth. It tasted like a Mexican or South American blend, as it had that distinctive citrus aftertaste, which Latin-American coffees have. They did have a couple little issues, which I don't mind bringing up... First are the hours. They open at 8:00 AM. For a coffee shop, that's like hitting the snooze button 4 times before rolling out of bed. As I waited outside at 7:45 AM trying to feel my toes, two other people pulled up and were disappointed at the locked door. The owners should strongly consider opening at 7:00 AM, at the latest. Be there for your customers and they will be there for you. The second little thing was kind of ironic and humorous. They had a sign in their window advocating diversity and stating at all are welcome! I loved that! Until I looked at all the other signs in the window, such as: No Firearms, No Smoking, No Vaping and a couple other "No" signs. So you welcome everyone, unless you're a smoker, a vaping person, a gun owner or other person who doesn't fit in with your definition of diversity? read more

I'd thought I had left a review about this place, but since I hadn't I shall now. This is a nice little spot on the square that has great coffee and good bites. I recently came back, it had been a while, but since I was here last they had remodeled and brought in comfortable seating, all nice cushioned seating that is long and up next to the wall. Yet,still not enough outlets though. I also believe they close a few hours earlier than they used to, which is sad. The only issue I have is with the restroom key. I find it silly to have a key. I believe this is the owner of the square, which owns just about everything there. The key gets misplaced and or somehow you have to wait for an available barista (when it's busy) for a dang key. read more

I unfortunately ordered a cold brew with white chocolate syrup, and it was SO stinkin' sweet I could only drink about half of it. Excited about getting some caffeine on a Sunday afternoon, I eagerly walked into Main Street Coffee House. Upon entering, the place was completely empty; not a soul in sight except for the barista meandering around. I soon found out why. I walked up to the counter and said "Hi! We've never been here before; we might be a minute." In response, the boy gave us a blank stare and blandly said "ok." After many awkward minutes of trying to read their cluttered menu board, and several more minutes of the barista staring at us, I asked him what flavors the specials consisted of. He had absolutely no idea and had to look up the recipe for each drink I asked about. I decided to go ahead and give one of their specials a try and ordered a "Nutty Leprechaun" ...a blend of almond and Irish cream. Not only did my small drink cost 4.50 but it was DISGUSTING. There is hardly a coffee I do not like, but this drink tasted like sewage in a cup. With there being no customers in the coffee house, you would have thought the boy would have indulged in conversation, or at least petty small talk. Oh no: he made our drinks in complete silence. The overhead music the only solace to the awkward silence sitting in the room. The coffee is good. The workers are extremely friendly. The music is wonderful. This place truly cares about the people who are here. I get into conversations with the employees about life, and they take time to ask questions and listen. Not something you find in every shop. The only thing I don't care for is the musty scent from being in the old building. It smells like moldy carpet. Days that are damp outside the smell is worse inside. I will be back often. read more

Just got a simple pour over. The coffee at work tastes better than what I paid $4 for here. Tastes like they don't filter their water and they do not fresh grind beans. Not even a full sugar and heavy almond milk pour could save it sadly. My S.O. got an iced latte and the espresso shot was dead in seconds. Love this establishment!!! Both cashiers were extremely helpful with my tea selection to combined with my lemonade. I ordered the turmeric, ginger lemonade and it was delicious. The place was clean, a lot of tables and chair. A bay window that offered a high top table a chair. Also, they offer a printing service. Unfortunately, I did not see the price for printing. This will definitely be one of my favorite go to places when in Tampa. read more

Today is cold and mist cloaks the streets of Independence in a white glamour. As I step into Main Street Coffee House just off the historic Independence square, I breathe deep and soak in the warm ambience. The barista smiles at me and pulls out a loaded bagel, my usual order. "Today I'm ordering a cappuccino and a cup of coffee as well," I announce, and we have a short discussion about ceramic and paper cups while she toasts my bagel and hands it to me with some veggie cream cheese. One of my favorite aspects of Main Street is the décor. Warm red walls host snapshots of historic Independence and a community bulletin board. The bar is covered in wood paneling reminiscent of a traditional library, the occasional antique door handle hinting at the unconventional origins of the cabinets. Holiday decorations include glittering snowflakes, white lights, and some greenery. The colorful chalkboard menus are extensive, with many offerings ranging from sandwiches with names like "Da Vinci Code" and "Nutty Nutella" to fresh quiche and baked goods. The flavored coffee drink list is extensive and includes seasonal drinks like "Merry Mint Mocha", "Celtic Christmas", and "Snickerdoodle". One fun touch is the small chalkboard beside the cash register which lists each barista's favorite drink. All these things made my experience at Main Street enjoyable. Unfortunately, the coffee in this inviting place falls short of its potential. My cappuccino had some foam on top which wasn't bad, but I found the espresso/milk combination disagreeable, somewhat like burnt almonds. As it cooled it picked up a strange but not unpleasant savor of graham and almond. The brewed coffee was weak and tasted of stale candied apples and charcoal. Perhaps with time and some more training the coffee quality will improve, but even so Main Street is a wonderful place to visit, and the bagels are exceptional! read more

Finally! Someone had enough sense to open a real independent coffee house in Independence. We don't have to drive to Midtown for a decent cup of coffee, anymore. Main Street Coffee House is a charming, laid back neighborhood coffee house on the Independence Square. As someone who has live in both Seattle and San Francisco where coffee is king, I can honestly say that their baristas are knowledgeable when it comes to pulling their espresso shots and mixing up some pretty tasty lattes. I haven't had their house coffee, so I can't comment on it, but everything else I've had has been a delight. They serve sandwiches and other traditional coffee house fair. And the owner and staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. We've been back several times and the service is always consistent. Main Street Coffee House is a great place to relax on the couch with a book, or just people watch. They do offer live music on Friday and Saturday evenings, and a trivia night during the week. read more

Main Street Coffee House offered a Groupon a while back and since I'm ALWAYS in the market to try an independent coffee shop that I've not been to visit before, I got the deal. For almost six months the coupon lurked in the bottom of my purse and I never found myself close to that part of Independence when I had time to stop. Today was the day.... it was now or never.... the coupon was ready to expire! So Hubs and I made a special trip to the square and we discovered a cute, slightly funky space with nice people behind the counter, serving locally roasted Roasterie coffee and a small menu of reasonably priced sandwiches. The sandwiches are made on site at the time you order them. I got a tasty roast beef with generous meat, fresh red onion, tomato slices, cheese and mayo. I chose a whole wheat bagel on which to have it constructed and it was a good choice. Hubby ordered an egg salad sandwich, then saw the sausage and cheddar quiche on the menu so changed his order, found out that they were unfortunately all out of the quiche, so changed back to egg salad which he enjoyed. He still had room for a brownie and a cup of brewed coffee (which comes with a free refill). I ordered a nice cafe latte that had good foam but was more luke warm than hot. The young woman and the young man behind the counter were both friendly and helpful and good at their jobs. The Main Street Coffee House maintains a laid back, comfortable space with lots of seating options including a few tables outside, if you are a people watcher or want to have a cafe au lait while out walking your dog. I did notice the menu board lists some breakfast options in case you are an early riser. All in all, it's a nice addition to the Independence Square neighborhood. read more
