Kara is a phenomenal host and makes you (and every other guest) feel like family. She is thoughtful and very intentional about making sure you throughly enjoy your time while being there. She has many well thought out and planned ideas for day trip excursions and even great suggestions for excursions on your way to the next destination. Life slows down so much when you're at the ranch, and it's a perfect reset just being there. The breakfast is always wonderful, and fun having conversations with other travelers. The rooms are secluded and give you plenty of privacy when needed, or you can cozy up on the living room couch and share conversations with others.

We would highly recommend this place!

If Daniel Boone hit the lottery in today's day and age this is what he would build as a home. This…read morevacation log mansion was crafted in 2001 on a hillside overlooking the Hood River Valley. The pictures do not do this place justice at all. The feeling you get when you walk in is that of... rustic luxury. Huge vaulted ceilings and big picture windows give this wooden palace an exceptionally open feel. To your left as you walk in the door is a kitchen that you swear Paula Dean or Dolly Parton is going to pop out of with a plate of hot biscuits. I believe the most heard exclamation I heard as people walked in for the first time was, "Holy fucking shit." I think a Catholic Priest would say the same thing. Here are the stats on the place. Four bedrooms plus a loft bedroom, four and a half bathrooms, three floors, Jacuzzi, free Wi-Fi, two patios, fully functional kitchen, two sets of washers and dryers, sleeps at least 15 by my count and the place just oozes serenity. I have stayed at the Bigfoot Lodge twice now; we rent in late October for a race that we attend near Mt. Hood City. Each time I find something I like more about the place. Great cell phone coverage, everyone in our group was either Verizon or AT&T. The Wi-Fi also worked great, the password is in the book in the kitchen. There are a few downsides to the place that are easily overlooked. Some of the furniture has been repaired with rustic matching duct tape. The stove in the kitchen is a little small and not very powerful. The downstairs brownstone shower needs a new showerhead in the worst way. That is about all the negatives I can think of. I believe the place runs about $299 a night, there are specials for extended stays as well. I can see a bunch of people using the place for skiing vacations, there have been many weddings there, family reunions, corporate retreats but one things that I keep thinking is Super Bowl!

The day before our arrival it had snowed and thus a change of plans. Our two night stay at Bigfoot Lodge was very enjoyable. Our host Nilsa was very gracious and welcoming. After just a few minutes there it felt like we were old friends. The place has a beautiful log cabin interior that made for a very enjoyable experience. The rooms were spacious and very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. Fresh berries, eggs, bacon and coffee were scrumptious. The views of Mount Hood with fresh snow from their living room were postcard pretty. Tons to do in the area with orchards, vineyards, breweries, restaurants, hiking trails and so much more. I highly recommend Bigfoot Lodge as a special experience Thank you again Nilsa and Mark

Five-star lodging for three-star prices. Highly recommend!…read more Comfortable, quiet, clean, upscale concepts without being stuffy or pretentious. BIG YES! for all the amenities that give you a high-end experience in the high Oregon desert. Great free breakfast bar includes cereal, bread, bagels, English muffins, OJ and milk. A 'help yourself' and "please don't be shy to use it" attitude in both the upstairs and downstairs kitchen. There's a computer setup in the downstairs. There's WiFi. There's a laundry room. There's a deck with a huge bbq setup...there's a garden seating area set apart from the house with a green patch of lawn. Rooms have balconies and outside seating. Ample private parking. Stayed only one night. I had Room #1 "Wapinitia" with access to the upstairs kitchen. Room (#3 is called "Boxcar"...all the names coincide with the names of sections of rapids on the river.) The upstairs had two adjoining rooms that can be locked. The upstairs main room has two double beds and one small cot-like twin bed. Great for families who want some togetherness time, also great for parents who want their privacy but still have access to the main room and the big well-appointed kitchen. (Had plenty of silverware, cups, plates, large coffeemaker, all the small utensils like can opener, bottle opener, etc) There was even milk and butter and cream cheese in the frig for us to use. PLUSES: Great attention to detail, which I noticed and much appreciated even though I didn't need it or use it. But just that it was available was awesome, such as, and in no particular order, there's NUTMEG and CINNAMON SPICES in the kitchen cupboard, MAKEUP REMOVER packets in the bathrooms, real FRESHLY-GROUND QUALITY COFFEE in easy-to-open jars along with the usual instant stuff and a variety of STASH teas; there's showers with BUILT-IN SHOWER SEAT and LOW SHOWER ENTRY for people in wheelchairs or the elderly, so thoughtful. The two BOOKS in my room were good summer reads, not the usual mental pablum, however, I had read both already and well, no time...because the place is within WALKING DISTANCE to the whitewater rafting OUTFITTER and HENRY'S CAFE and THE OASIS CAFE and a local MARKET. CONS: NONE. SHOUTOUT -- I did have to call the proprietor Mike to open the door for me because I locked myself out. There's a lock box at the entry, and all he had to do was tell me the code, and voila, I was back inside my room. Awesome. Saved him a trip, right? WRONG. Also brain-addled, I couldn't figure out the teevee...so Mike did come over in less than 10 minutes, and he helped me figure out the TV settings. OVERALL: A stellar experience...only wish I could've stayed longer. Friendly helpful proprietors in Mike and Dani. This is the place to stay if you want to be happy.

Or where they were so creaky that you hesitate to use the bathroom at night for fear of waking up the whole building. Truthfully, R&R Guest House is none of those things. Kevin and Julie are friendly and will help you with as much or little guidance as you want on local hikes, wineries etc. But they aren't in your face or space... Another big highlight is that this property feels new and old at the same time. Definite charm retained in their remodeling. Yet, no feeling of "this doorknob might come off in my hand." And the hot tub and pool are very, very nice. The landscaping is lush and well laid out. Finally--the two meals we hadat this B&B was consistently the best meals we had that weekend, compared to restaurants in both Hood River and The Dalles. Not too often I give an unequivocal thumbs up, but here you go.

Already made a reservation for 4 nights again next year! Hands down, our favorite bed and breakfast! And we have been to many countrywide. Pegi is the perfect hostess. Very respectful of our privacy...yet kind and loving. Our beatiful, sweet dog, Abby, died suddenly while we were staying here. Pegi was so sensitive to that. She gave heartfelt hugs to my wife and gave some very kind words of comfort. We so appreciated that. The gourmet breakfasts are to die for. Seriously. She has a binder with pictures and descriptions of each dish. Maybe 10 different starters...as well as about 10 main dishes. You can choose your favorites. Cooked to order. Yum! We feel so spoiled! The grounds are so beautiful and well maintained. I loved the "babbling brook" that fed a small pond. I had book in hand, and enjoyed several hours of relaxing to the sound of the water. So peaceful. The rooms .... Perfect. The bed....so comfortable! But honestly, I spent most of the time outside on the deck, or by the stream relaxing.
