I was in the area and saw positive reviews for Hylton's and decided to give it a shot for a late lunch. Service was very kind, guiding me on the menu. I ended up ordering the fish plate (whiting), with mac and cheese and green beans. I took a spot and it was a short wait. The food came out hot and fresh. The were two large pieces of whiting. The mac and cheese was delightful and good flavor with the green beans. Plates come with 2 honey butter biscuits. They were more dessert like, think doughnuts, offering an unexpected treat. The person working that day was really kind, checking in and helpful to others who came in. Definitely give it a try. read more

Place is pretty dark but was clean. Unfortunately they were out of a couple things, so not everyone could get what they wanted. Then there was a little confusion with the cashier as we had to rework what we wanted due to availability. However, once we got past that hurdle, it was all good after that. Food came out pretty quickly. I had ribs, cole slaw, and crinkle cut fries. Now anyone that knows me will tell you I detest crinkle cut fries. Most places serve them barely warm out right out of the freezer bag. Not this place though! They cooked them to a very nice perfect golden and they went the extra step to add some sort of seasoning. Quite tasty! (Though I'd still prefer fresh cut). The cole slaw was a nice mix of shredded cabbage and carrots along with some herb blend of spices that I've never had in it before. So it was more of a savory slaw than a creamy sweet or even a vinegar slaw. Different and tasty! The ribs were a country style pork ribs that were absolutely falling off the bone. They did not have a barbecue glaze on them but rather some soy sauce based was drizzled on them (almost but not quite a teriyaki flavor). Definitely will go again, and probably often as I can. Which, unfortunately, won't be very often because it's a good 45 minutes or so out of my way. read more

What went well, you ask? Just EVERYTHING! Everything was fantastic! Upon arrival my guest and myself were greeted promptly and told to have a seat whenever we would like. It is a fairly small establishment but there are plenty of tables, booths and counter seating available. The restaurant has a really "down home Southern hospitality" feel to it. We were there for lunch and I found the atmosphere very inviting. I spoke with a gentleman who was pushing a huge cart of homemade smoked meatloaf to the kitchen and it turns out that it was was Mr. Hylton himself, puttin' in the hard work for sure! He's a really cool guy! There were also several ladies working and they were lovely as well. It really makes a difference when you feel genuinely welcome in a place! On to the food..... If OUR meal was a reflection of the entire menu....this place is on FIRE! My friend had the smoked meatloaf and said it was incredible. I chose to have a few of their side items and WHOA....they were all terrific! The greens with vinegar were my fav but it was all so, so good! THIS IS THE REAL DEAL FOLKS.....real home cooked food and meats fresh off the smoker. Oh!.....and at least one smoker sits out front to you can check out all the action! Here's a quick recap: 1. Everything here is absolutely amazing! We shared plates so tasted it all and every last bit was awesome. The macaroni salad and the mac and cheese were perfectly cooked. So many places overcook the pasta and you end up with mush. Not here! The BBQ ribs and chicken, both mac sides, baked beans, cornbread (not too sweet), honey butter biscuits, and fries all made with lots of love. This small diversion from highway is worth it in every way. Most entrees smoked to perfection. Best meatloaf ever needs no sauce. Ribs and chicken terrific, too. I'm updating this to reflect the wonderful staff and food here. After 4 try's I finally got to enjoy their food. In a twist, I actually am more impressed with the soulful sides than the meat and sauce! Mac and cheese, baked beans, macaroni salad, potato salad and last but certainly not least- the butter honey corn rolls. OMG- if you have seen the Texas road house rolls vs Cheddars croissants competition then let me introduce a new challenger! Light, sweet, hot, with warm honey drizzle. I liked the meat. The sauce for the ribs is a little runny for my taste. The chicken was seasoned well, but with no sauce I would encourage them to make it a bit bolder and smokier.
