This is a long overdue review which I hate to leave but don't know what else to do. We had our both our driveway and garage floor completely replaced in May 2021. Not a cheap job by any means. All looked nice at first but within 2 years, parts of both started showing signs of cracking and spalling. My husband called them back out to see what could be done and were told they couldn't do anything except replace the whole thing again? The explanation is the weather in Chicago is the reason. By the third year, the area where the garage floor meets the concrete driveway and parts of the driveway are crumbling. I didn't expect any of this within the first few years.. and I don't see other newer driveways in my neighborhood with this issue. Something was wrong with what they used or how they mixed their product. Now, water seeps into the garage through the cracks at winter time. It's extremely upsetting and each year that goes by, I get more upset. More and more crumbling. I wish they had better options for us or could do something without charging us for a full redo. Hynek installed our driveway in Aug/2024. After 4 months I started to notice some chipping and crumbling in the surface, within 18 months driveway was already falling apart - widespread scaling. Had to send multiple emails to finally get a response from Hynek. He took ZERO responsibility for the terrible quality of his work; he had the audacity to blame the weather, which magically only affected our driveway. Then Mario and Nick showed up on Friday to do the work on very hot day and they worked hard and did a great job, they kept everything neat and organized since the scaffolding was going to stay up for the weekend and then final touch up on Monday. I would've loved to have evaluated the work from this team. However, not only did I get an inaccurate quote (suggested I replace a large amount of lintels...more lintels than there are windows) but then I had to chase him just to follow up on the quote. He texted to say he'd get me a new quote and then weeks went by without a response. That was enough red flags for me to look elsewhere. EDIT: Wow, you sure did respond quickly to the yelp review. If you were sick, you could've said that. I followed up with you via text and email, and you mentioned your vacation the first time. This is my second time hiring Hynek Construction. This time around they removed four old metal and wood frame basement windows, and replaced them with glass block windows. The installation required custom work which included grinding away concrete. The 3 person crew did an excellent job installing, mortaring, and sealing the windows. The clean up was much appreciated, and the final results are outstanding! My final thought is that I received excellent work at a fair price! read more

Long overdue. Had this company do some concrete work a few years back. Had an individual come to my house on a motorcycle unannounced on a Sunday while I had guests over to look at what they'd be working on the following day. Had no permit certificate to put in window while they were already working the project the following day. Messy. Even though they stated drops would be used, not a single one was in sight. They poured left over concrete/water debris in retention embankment to solidify and when I mentioned it to the owner, his response was "who told you to clean it up?" His people skills sucked and the work wasn't far from his attitude. read more

Hynek provided me with a reasonable estimate which was in line with several others on the lower end, but the deciding factor which made me go with Hynek was the extreme level of detail which was provided to me in the estimate. Another 5 star job from Hynek! They fixed an interior wall in our house we sold last year, and today came and fixed the house we bought! A basketball hoop had been installed above the garage and when we took it down - 2 gaps and multiple holes in the brick right in the middle of the front of the house, and now you can't tell where! I enjoyed working with Hynek and his team of amazingly kind and nice guys. The project wasn't too big, but it was a little complicated. A few rows of bricks by the garage doors deteriorated from humidity and there was some separation between the bricks on the wall. Hynek and his team replaced failed bricks with beautiful limestone, fixed and restored cracked mortar between bricks, blended everything so well that it totally matched the original color and design, and cleaned up so well that I couldn't tell any work was done on site. Limestone eventually decided to give us some additional trouble and managed to suck in the water and slightly crack at the bottom due to cold weather. Well, this was fixed, too, with some magical masonry work. I would highly recommend Hynek's company! I still cannot believe how nice his crew was, not sure I mentioned it. After doing extensive research, getting quotes from several people, not hearing back from others, Hynek Construction won our business. It was a total no brainer. This is one of those reviews where I wish I could offer up more than five stars. Our white brick house from 1938 had some loose chimney brick, and we always knew it would need to be tuckpointed. Recently we lost a brick and it landed on our side, but a couple weeks ago we lost a second brick, and a portion of it landed on our neighbor's driveway. We started our search for the perfect mason to come out and save the situation before it got out of hand. We literally could not sleep thinking we could kill our beloved neighbors. We had to ask them to be careful and keep their cars parked out of the way of danger. Thankfully they are amazing and patient. My hubby was hoping we could find someone to just "stick the brick back in there" without doing a full rebuild (I knew it would need to be rebuilt). The first estimate was a verbal, some people never responded, some came in at bids that were outrageous, and we didn't choose the cheapest bid either. When Hynek came out, he showed up, told us we would have to rebuild (like all the others), gave us a quote within 24 hours, and the quote was nicely detailed at a very fair price. We hired Hynek on the spot, because we liked him even before he gave us the estimate - LOL. We paid him 50% down, and a few days later three guys promptly showed up read to start by 7am each day. They built a scaffold and were set up in no time. Since our neighbor agreed to let them use her driveway, the guys were super respectful of both her property and ours. The first day the guys had our old chimney brick removed and new chimney brick all built up by the end of the day. The second day they formed the cement chimney crown. A few days later after the cement cured, they came back, finished everything with new caps and stacks, and cleaned up the site like nothing happened (except for the new badass chimney)! An incredible job. The Hynek Construction crew was prompt, neat, respectful, friendly, and efficient. Absolutely no drama at all. We're so excited to have found Hynek, that we can't wait for the next project and the one after that. read more

We hired Hynek Construction to rebuild our porch and walk to the house. The job included replacing the brickwork siding the porch and redoing the concrete walk and steps of the porch. We were worried about the replacement bricks matching the original brick of our 1930 bungalow. But there was no need for worries - Hynek found bricks that matched! The end result was beautiful! The crews were friendly, did quality work, and cleaned up afterwards. The only downside was that communication was not always well coordinated. We hired Hynek to redo our backyard patio (old wooden patio tear out, replacing with a concrete pour). His crew did a great job and the patio looks fantastic. They handled all the city stuff - permits, inspections, etc. - which made our lives a lot easier. The work done was top-notch, and the cost was more than fair. The only reason I'm leaving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of communication (or lack thereof). When we first signed and sent back the quote along with the plat of survey to get the permit from the city, we went about a month without hearing anything. Then one night at around 8:30pm he calls to tell me they'll be at our house at 7:30am the next morning to begin work. So with less than 12 hours notice, I had to go out and move all our patio furniture off the patio so they could begin work the next morning. A little more of a heads up would've been nice! Overall the work was phenomenal and Hynek was responsive from that point on, answering all my annoying questions about the project. :) A little more communication could've gone a long way, but overall a wonderful experience and would 100% recommend to others looking to have similar work done. read more
