After a horrific job and giving another business 2 weeks to fix their crappy artwork, I called Dom and he literally shows up the next day and saw the mistakes within 2 minutes. Instructed that its best to start over (yes it was That Bad) and his crew would be there the next day at 8 AM. They Showed up ON Time with a trailer hitch, bobcat and a few good men. Dom did a fantastic job for us. We had the concrete in our gangway replaced. I called him on Friday, he came out and gave us an estimate on Sunday, and did the work on a Tuesday. He had a long wait period because he was booked but we told him he could do the work at his leisure if he had a cancellation. Someone cancelled so he and his crew came right out. The broke out the old concrete and put in new. The finish is great, and the concrete is sloped well so it drains perfectly. The price was reasonable. We are very satisfied. read more

Getting good, trustworthy, honest tradesmen seems so hit or miss. If you don't "know someone" its really hard to wade through and find the best option. Dom is definitely a hit! I really can't recommend him enough for your concrete work. I had four estimates, his was easily the cheapest, and not just by a couple dollars. I could tell immediately that he knew his stuff. Some of the other people who had come out to give estimates were a little wishy washy and just didn't make me feel confident about them. Dom was able to start the work earlier than he had originally mentioned, which was great. They were quick and cleaned up after themselves. We did have one issue related to a miscommunication to some rock I wanted him to put down between our garage and our neighbors. Once I came home and saw that it wasn't quite what I was needing, I mentioned it to Dom and we decided that he would just remove what they had done. No harm no foul. Thank god I had this new concrete put in before all the snow (polar vortexes) this year. We seriously would have had some moisture issues if it weren't for dom and his great job. (Our old concrete had the water running towards the door). I waited until the concrete was down for a while before I wrote the review. 6+months later it looks great, the water ran everywhere it should and nowhere that it shouldn't as all the snow melted. Just the other day our neighbor asked us for the name of "our guy" because he needed to have some concrete work done too. He also mentioned how good ours looked. If you are planning to contact this business, be prepared to realize that you don't matter to them! My initial impression was actually good....I received an email in response to my initial inquiry stating that Dom would go by my house at his convenience and would provide me with an estimate based on what he saw. When I got the estimate a few days later, it seemed a little low and so I reached out to see if it was accurate. Although I really never got a straight answer after my MANY emails and calls to them, it seems as though he went to the wrong house on his drive by. Apparently his mistake is my loss, because when I did finally get a reply I was told that he was "working at a big job in (insert some suburb) and is too busy to come back"....OK....too busy to come back this week or too busy to come back ever? Hello? Zero response. Dead silence. OK, I get it, I don't matter to you! Note to Dom: While your busy season may provide you with ample work, treating customers like they are not important will not be beneficial to your business in the long run. I'd advise having someone handle your appointments and emails who actually seems to have time to do the job. Everyone deserves a response, whether you are able to do the work or not. read more

We got really lucky by choosing Dom's. We had a problem with a sewer line under our side walkway and I had been focused on the plumber (Tangney, who also is top notch) and not on the concrete. At the last minute I started searching for a concrete contractor and called the top rated ones in my area. Neither returned my calls. I saw a truck for Dom's in my neighborhood and looked up reviews. I called and heard right back from them. Nick Hernandez came over, understood what we needed, which is pretty complex in two areas, and gave me what I thought was a fair price. We ended up having permit issues and needing to meet twice with the engineer and inspector and Nick was on time and completely professional. The work is done and I couldn't be happier that I chose them. Long overdue review... My condo association contacted Dom back in Sept. 2014 to repair a huge sinkhole in our backyard. Let me begin by 1st stating how disappointed I was that Dom arrived extremely late, which made me extremely late for a workshop. He said he was stuck in traffic, which was a crock of BS. He looks old enough to be my dad, yet when he arrived I had to scold him for his tardiness and gave him a lecture that if you 'supposedly do work all over town, then you should plan accordingly esp. during rush hours'. Ok, so I went to work and when I returned the sinkhole was fixed and dry. He cemented the entire space and created a beautiful patio area. Today, almost a year later and through a bad winter, the ground work is still holding up strong. We also felt his pricing was affordable. Tried Dom based on the reviews here and couldn't be happier. This review is coming a year and a half after he replaced the sidewalk in our gangway. Th sidewalk has two small cracks where he rightly indicated a problem with our porch posts, but otherwise, it looks like it was poured yesterday. Nicely sloped for water runoff and also nicely textured. At the time, I was the condo president and he answered our concerns and was able to work with our specifications. Dom came out the same day we called to give us a free estimate. We had gotten others, but his seemed the most reasonable. We agreed to have him do the work and he said he'd call the day before they were coming out which he did. The guys were amazing and did a really great job in a quick amount of time. We needed all the cement replaced going up to our house, the bottom step of the front porch had to be removed because it had separated and pitched forward, all the cement down the side of the house and around the back. They did a beautiful job. The cement is four inches thick and they added some really nice details. Reshaped the curves in the front from the stairs, added rebar to tie in the bottom stair so it won't separate again. It all looks so great. Honestly, we dreaded getting this work done for a long time and Dom was so pleasant to work with he made the whole thing easy. read more

Dom and his guys recently replaced our sidewalks, those leading up to the house and the length of the side yard - about 300 sq ft. We had called several other contractors-and actually got a couple of them to come over to give us estimates-but they made it clear that ours wasn't a job big enough to be bothered with. Not Dom. He was very forthright and pleasant from the start, very reasonably priced, and got to the job almost immediately (even though it was the hottest, most humid day we had had this season). It wasn't until we experienced the beautiful job he did that we realized just what a mess we had! He fixed a major problem with water pooling just inside our gate that was a menace when it rained and a real danger when it freezes. We had spots that were starting to crumble and sink in the old sidewalks, and all in all, they were becoming a real eyesore. Dom had to add several inches of dirt to get it all leveled out, suggested a nice curving solution as the walk meets the front steps and proceeds around the side of the house, and though it's been a month since we got our new walkways, we marvel repeatedly about how much they've improved the appearance of our exterior.The only reason we didn't give him 5 stars is that his crew would have made the experience perfect by placing tarps on our lawn and been a bit more careful with our garden. Generally, they cleaned up the site pretty well but might have been more sensitive in this one area. I'm sure that if you have Dom do a job for you and you prompt him to take this into account, he will heed your warning and you will all be so pleased with the outcome. Otherwise, we can't recommend Dom's Concrete highly enough. Wish there were more tradesmen like him! Dom knows his concrete! We've had work done by him twice, a patio last summer, and a new driveway this summer, in Chicago's Old Irving Park neighborhood. He has a great design sense and both times made suggestions we hadn't thought of.
