Coastal Bubbles - Cheese and wine flight!

Coastal Bubbles

I can't resist a good wine bar. I'm so glad I didn't resist Coastal Bubbles. A very intriguing…read moreselection of wines by the glass, including 3 from Croatia ("Croatia is having a moment," I was told by the host). I lingered with a glass, reading my book while soulful music softly played, quiet conversations among the few other patrons drifted in and out of my consciousness, and the plaintive cries of seagulls outside were occasionally audible. Whimsical posters dressed up the plain but cozy room (a rabbit in a pink bathrobe holding a bottle of champagne and divers leaping into a wine glass). I could have spent all afternoon there, reading and sipping. But I had places to be. If I stayed longer I might have tried some of the food. It's more in the line of light snacks than an actual meal, mostly cold, but they were more interesting than the standard charcuterie plate offered by similar venues, and I liked that they listed the country or state of origin of everything. For dessert, how about a slice of cheesecake from Chill's of Warren, RI - or a flight of 3 for $21! Beer lovers, don't fear Coastal Bubbles. Menu listed five, all of which I've never heard of, from Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, and Portugal, sure to interest the connoisseur. The menu that day included 25 wines by the glass. Their high-tech "Coravin System" keeps the open bottles fresh, and my Croation Matsuško was flawless in that respect. Port lovers might try the "100 Years Of Port Flight": the 10, 20, 30, and 40 year vintages of Van Zellers. I'll be doing that next time, with the cheesecake.

This is THE perfect addition to DNB. Great combo of indoor and outdoor seating, very reasonable…read moreprice points on (most NOT local, thank you!!!) offerings. I love that they partnered with another local company (Savor the Spread) for their charcuterie. Obsessed, and will definitely be coming to the wine/oyster dates!

Smoke and Pickles Catering

We truly cannot speak highly enough of Smoke & Pickles!…read more Our guests are still talking about "the best wedding food they've ever had" 3 months later, and we can't argue with them. Beyond creating an incredibly bespoke and personal menu for us (with plenty of GF and veggie options!) Sally was instrumental to the process. She helped us book all of our rentals (tent, flatware, plates, tables, etc) and she was always there for advice and to offer suggestions based on her experience. She met with us at PEAK to pick out our tableware, she gave us great suggestions for anything else we needed to rent, coordinated all the setup both on Friday and our actual wedding day, and was so prompt in her replies via email or phone. We could not have pulled it off without her expertise! We would have ended up spending a lot more money overall if we didn't have her guidance. And of course the food was amazing. I loved the fact that it was all local and in-season! Sustainability was very important when picking our vendors, so I appreciated the attention to detail, the composting, and support of local farmers and growers. Plus we got to take home the leftovers! Win/win/win. Lastly, the whole team truly cares about the process. They don't just throw food in pans on the table, but craft such gorgeous tablescapes that look like they fit in perfectly with the rest of the event. Handmade pottery, flowers, cutting boards...its beautiful to look at, AND to eat! If you need a caterer to deliver the BEST food and support your wedding or event - Smoke and Pickles is your team.

Oh, and the food. People are still talking about it ( "those lobster rolls! "That beef!" "Those FISH!") The menu was simple, fresh, and spectacular. And the service was impeccable. The staff was friendly and everything seemed custom (they collected guests empty glasses in baskets for instance). If you're considering using S and P for an event, in my mind, the decision is made. In Sally we not only met a caterer but we made a friend.

From the outside it barely looks like a restaurant, but inside is beautiful and welcoming, like a…read morehotel entrance might be. I came here with a big group (40), and the owners set up a private space for us in the basement. It was so lovely, the table already set with place settings and glasses, string lights in a corner, a plate of appetizers that went around the room. Since it had been prearranged what we would eat, I couldn't tell you the names of the dishes, but I know everything was delicious: from the fried fish to the chicken in a heavenly sauce to the rice and steamed vegetables (I didn't realize rice could taste so good!). We ended up with vegetarians whom we didn't know about, and the owner immediately arranged for a vegetable filled pasta to be brought to them. I highly recommend coming here, particularly if you are looking for a Portuguese restaurant that makes you feel at home! Based on all of my friends there who *are* Portuguese or Brazilian, it reminded them of home.

(Maybe we should have asked if he was the cook, too.) Our beverages arrived quickly, and Tony was warm, engaging, efficient, and helpful. He not only advised us to buy a bottle of wine (which was grest), but he also made good menu suggestions and was knowledgeable about the dishes and their preparation. I order the octopus (my reason for going to Cotali), and it was excellent... very tender and lots of it. One suggestion: plate it with a small topping of some kind off sauce (I'm thinking mayo-based sweet and spicy).
