Proximity and Convenience 1 star: Comparing Sam's Club to its direct competitor Costco, their biggest issue is that there are "few and far between"! I live in Porter Ranch and the closest Sam's Club is in Santa Clarita, which is about 20 miles and 30 minutes without traffic. In contrast, I can go to 7 different Costco locations within a 20 mile radius, and the closest is only 5 miles away! My situation is not atypical since there are only 7 Sam's Clubs in the entire LA County! Venue 5 stars: Walk in and you will swear you're at Costco! The setup and signage is almost identical! Nice large building and well arranged merchandise. The (Lack of) Crowds compared to the Northridge Costco that I usually go to is a godsend; almost worth the long car trip :D You can use the many self checkout stations or use their phone app to "shop and go"... No need to stand at any check out line... Just pay on the app and show your digital receipt when you exit. Very convenient. Merchandise 3.5 stars: Not as extensive as Costco but pretty close! They do have a few things that you do not find at Costco but there are many more Costco exclusives that you do not see here. For example, their meat, seafood and bakery sections aren't as large as Costco. Prices 4 stars: Sam's Club's prices are slightly better than Costco! Annual Membership Prices 4 stars: Standard membership is normally $50 per year but it is frequently discounted to attract new members. Comparable Costco membership is $65 per year. The Bottom Line 4 Stars: I wish they were closer to my house :) Other than the distance, they are a pretty solid one-stop shopping destination and highly recommended!

I also saved the $140 shipping charge that the Thousand Oaks store would've charged to get the flooring to their warehouse in Oxnard. (delivery to my home in Newberry Park would have been an additional $100) I happily saved $340 buying from Lister Flooring. David encouraged me to double check the square footage needed. The cashier, Opal, was extraordinarily patient. She didn't rush her, didn't sigh, and didn't treat her like an inconvenience. Instead, she calmly walked her through how to locate the number on her phone, ensured she received the savings she was entitled to, and graciously answered multiple questions afterward. It was genuine kindness -- not performative, not transactional -- just respectful and thoughtful service. What made it even more special was that the manager on duty, Gina, came over to bag groceries at our line. As Opal was ringing up my order, I asked Gina if she was Opal's manager. You could see a split-second look cross her face, as though she were bracing for a complaint. But I quickly told her that Opal had delivered exemplary customer service to the woman ahead of me. Gina was visibly relieved and appreciative when she realized it was praise. And Opal heard the whole exchange! It was such a sweet moment. In a world where people are quick to criticize and slow to compliment, this interaction truly stood out.
