I've been going to Smart and Final more lately to get groceries as an alternative to Target or Walmart. I like that I can get some items in bulk without having to get big portions of everything. Prices are reasonable and there are usually good sales too. The produce is hit or miss. Sometimes it kind a little iffy. But I'm usually able to get the basics with no issues. This is also a good place to get paper goods and things like that. read more

Third rate. Line of 12 people with one checkout vendor. Each person could have been carrying 30 or more items. They would not get another cashier. Not just once but this has happened a number of times. I have now learned my lesson and stopped shopping here. read more

Hugo is super friendly, always helps customers and does so with a smile! Hard working employee! I was checked out by Eric, the Store manager! Since when did Smart & Final hire bouncers to stand in front of their registers. I went in here this afternoon. Lines started to form and they only had one cashier. Then comes their bouncer/Fabio's wannabe offspring Crisco. Instead of just taking initiative to open up a register to help out, he barked orders at someone else to do it. You want to move things along, maybe use the brain underneath your ponytail and help your team. But standing there with your arms crossed and just staring at people is quite helpful I guess. read more

For some reason, I never posted a review on this location even though I have come here several times. During the Covid-19 it was better stocked on items than Walmart was and so we picked up some things from the list that we weren't able to get. Of course, paper goods and water are still not existing or limited but we have some at home (not stockpiled) so we were good. I definitely recommend during this time or at others. read more

Since they remodeled a while ago, I find myself going in a little more for things. Nice that they added more fresh produce and refrigerated sections. The new Smart and Finals are a cross between Costco for bulk items and a grocery store for smaller box items. I like that I can go in and get cases of drinks and frozen stuff or just a dozen eggs. Great if you like to cook, because sometimes you need a lot of one thing but then just a small package of another! Oh and then there are the serving trays and other odd ball things that they have always had for catering, hosting or sporting events. One knock is that checkout can get backed up rather quickly. They usually open up more registers tho. read more

Expired food. Last week it was expired burger meat, the week before expired orange juice, today its expired eggs. I've brought this to the attention of management all three times. They seem disinterested and wave me off The employees are nice. The management not so much. read more

Maria saw I was looking for something so she asked me what I needed and I told her so she called Gabriel right away to have him go look in the back. He told me no they were out but went and checked to tell me when the product would be in. They both asked if I needed anything else and I said no. I was greeted with a smile by both of them. The floors were clean and shiny. The frozen food windows were clean and free of hand prints. Maria was very fast in checking me out. She thanked me for shopping at their store. As I walk into the parking lot I see Gabriel bringing in the last of the carts as they are closing . He asks if I need help to my car and thanks me for shopping at their store. I rarely come to the store. But I had to the other day. The produce was substandard tomatoes and other fruits and vegetables look very old and we're going bad. The prices are nothing to brag about either. Overall the other products in the store seem to be decent. But I definitely will never go back there for anything produce related. read more

I come to this store a few times a month to buy products and supplies for my business. The customer service is average at best and I'm willing to deal with that. However what happened today is unacceptable. I always purchase items in bulk to save on trips and today was no different. I purchase 3 hand soap bottles and a refill bottle to be used at my business. When I go to check out the cashier/ checker says oh you can't get this many. I said why? And she replied it a new policy that went back into effect. I was confused because that's not what the signs I read said. I let her know that's not what the signs says and she says I'm sorry and removes all of the soap with the exception of one of the small bottles. I asked if I can also keep the refill bottle at least considering it was a different product and a different brand. She says no with an attitude so I ask for a manager. Turns out the manager is also one of the checkers. Without even looking into the situation shes says that's our policy sir. Again I say that's not what the signs said. You would think at this point they would go investigate to see what the sign actually said. Instead with an attitude the manager (supposedly) says no you can't buy more than one. Both of them had a take it or leave if attitude and neither of them actually bothered to see if what I was saying was true. That may or may not be the current store policy but if there is no sign that says that then how are customers supposed to know? Just let me buy the soap and go put a sign up if that's actually the policy. Oh and drop the attitude. I spend a lot of money at this store each and every month but I'm seriously considering taking my money elsewhere. They don't seem to interested in customer service anyways. read more

All items are overpriced and while there are many employees walking around aimlessly, nobody smiles and nobody asks if you need any help. After going to the Smart and Final at 6 in the morning to find empty toilet paper shelves yesterday 3/13. I decided to try and order the TP on Smart and Finals online site. My order was accepted and was given a next day delivery date. Well , I received a call this morning from the ( smart shopper), to tell me that there will be no delivery. Apparently she goes to the actual store and picks up the item ordered and delivers the item. I assumed the order comes from the warehouse and they have the actual count of material. It's horrible here and without a doubt, bad management ! I bought 3 boxes of frozen burritos here and all 3 were stale. While the expiration date isn't till next year... They were still all stale. Could be many possibilities of who's fault it is but when a customer complains and buys 3 different boxes of different kinds, I highly suggest taking the complaint serious and into consideration of others by at least taking it off the shelf and none the less apologizing. The manager Andre didn't seem to care to my surprise. I wouldn't recommend shopping here. If you do come here you better save your receipts because it's likely that you will need to do a return. Ever since Fresh & Easy's closure, we have been searching for hummus that had the taste that compared to what F&E offered. Sabra's brand was so-so, but lacked the intense flavor of F&E's product. Then we found Smart and Final's First Street brand hummus - wow, it is excellent! It has the garlic and tahini flavor that we like and is reasonably priced. We've been shopping at S&F since F&E's closure and have found that it has excellent produce, meats and other products. A big advantage is that we can buy smaller regular portions or the larger 'club size' quantities if needed. Their store brand "First Street" is value priced but is big on quality. We especially like this brand's jams, chips and now the hummus. read more

Great selection of items that are in between Costco and regular grocery stores. I like the fact that their cooking utensils are NSF which is restaurant quality. With a big family like ours, we need to have good quality stuff as i get frustrated with cheap quality. Never any lines and the parking lot always offers a spot close by the front door. Very cool place to get ideas for entertaining, birthdays or just hosting a dinner. read more

Manager and one cashier in station 4 receipt say Daniel was very rude. Said he had to charge individually for waters. When I said they never did that before and it's not posted that way. His response was " your right I'm wrong I just work here I don't know anything". I said it's not that just saying it's not posted he responded " well I'm up here can't go back and look". When I asked the manager very calmly and nice he too had attitude cause he stopped helping one of the guys mop up soda a customer spilled. When asked to make sure it comes out the same fine that's all I wanted to know. Richard in register 4 says very loudly "am I wrong or is the system wrong" manager did d not respond just found out then continued to assist customers waiting to pay since only register 4 and the one the manager was on were the only 2 open. read more

Buyer beware. I purchased 4 apples that were labeled honey crisp at 2.99. As you may know, Honeycrisp apples are much more expensive than Fuji. The first one I bit into tasted like a Fuji and the internal color was more gold than a honey crisp and it browned quickly. The next one was the same. And so on. The bar code said Honeycrisp. Bait and switch whether if was the wholesaler or the retailer. read more

Went to my closest Smart & Final (not this one; Lyons) and they were out of ground pork, and not getting any more until tomorrow. Decided to call this location while I was still at the one on Lyons to ask if they had any available. Nice lady transferred me to someone she said could help me to see if they had any more available. Another lady answered and as soon as I finished asking if they had ground pork she immediately said NO! She almost didn't even let me finish asking because she already knew what her answer would be. Didn't bother checking, didn't bother saying anything else. All I got from her was NO! Twice, after asking a second time. I felt like going just to check if they really didn't have any but didn't want to drive out. For all I know they don't even have a meat section or they really didn't have any in, but she could have at least acted like she would go check. read more

When I don't want to make the monthly trek from Castaic to Costco, Smart and Final is your best bet. Good place to buy water and their fruit is generally really good and at a good price. Large shopping center parking lot...strange entrance and exits, but it's okay once you get used to it. The store was clean and bright with a variety of food and non food items to choose from. No more club cards or phone numbers to enter... Everyone gets the same low price. They cater toward the small business owners with large size number ten cans or gallon size items... But small enough sizes for the regular shopper. I used to work for them a long time ago... Great company ! The checker, andie, was cheerful, courteous and fast... Like an experienced checker should be. Greeted me and asked if I found everything and thanked me at the end of the order. She gets five stars for her service. The store was small and could've used a little more variety, but that's from someone like me who used to work in their buying department .. So I have a little more insight than most. read more

I am so glad I found these guys. I can get the flour I use to make pizzas for less than 2 frozen pizzas. Cheese is incredible here, you can get pounds of it for what you pay for half a pound at walmart. Milk is 2 for 6 instead of 4 for 1. I love this place! She even offered to have our items shipped to the Pacoima store next to our house which has the worst customer service. We will make our drive from Sylmar just to got to a great store like this one even though the Pacoima store is 3 miles away. read more

Great prices and great selection. Every time I make food for my church of 40-50 I always come here and shop. I can feed that many people by spending $70 here. They made some changes here a while ago and it's a lot more family friendly. As in, smaller packed foods and such. Its very similar with one with on Figueroa in DTLA. So I was here yesterday after not walking through the door for over 5 years. It was a major shocker. The place is super clean and organized The staff is super kind and very attentive. I was just surprised because they used to be my mini costco and now they are more grocery store with a little bulk stuff. I get that they want to meet the demand of the valley so it makes sense but it was still a bummer. This S&F opened last year in Santa Clarita in a hard to find shopping center in Newhall Ranch. So most locals probably don't even know it's here. Thus it took this long for the first Yelp! review of this location. Store is Sam's Club or Costco for those who don't want to cough up the membership fee. Which is why the prices are a bit higher but unlike Sams or Costco, they do sales so if you wait a little, you can really do well. Case in point, I recently got a five gallon tub of their First Street Ice Cream for $3.99 when Sams recently upped their price to past five bucks. That's 'Wholesale'? Even S&F's regular price is lower than Sam's and they offer a lot of flavors beyond Vanilla and Neopolitan. They even have Dulce de Leche (Caramel) in the five gallon tubs! Where else are you going to find that? They have a decent beer and liquor selection but not as good as the one in Santa Monica. The baked goods are nothing special as there's no actual bakery so Sam's and Costco kill S&F here. And of course, no department store type offerings. Just food, drink and cleaning supplies for the most part. It's an OK store but I don't run here too often. Especially with Costco within walking distance of my place. read more
