Worst cappuccino I've ever had. Be warned. When I got past all the almond milk, I finally tasted a little of the espresso which tasted stale and like old charcoal. ( I ordered a cappuccino and was serve a latte. ) The staff was friendly, the place unique, but if you are wanting quality espresso, this is not the place. I've traveled all across the US, from San Diego to New York City, tasting amazing coffee. I've even had coffee straight from Italy. A coffee blogger, I know good coffee and this isn't it. There are several other local coffee shops in the downtown area that serve far superior coffee. read more

I like my coffee strong and a tad sweet, just like my man, and Hyperion delivers. This neighborhood coffeehouse is on a well-traversed corner of Old Town Fredericksburg. The baristas know what they're doing, and there's plenty of seating and lots of windows to people-watch. This is so un-Starbucks. Very refreshing. read more

If you looked in my head to find the definition of a cool, funky independent coffee shop, this pretty much fits the bill. Lovely outdoor seating, eclectic decor, and tons of drinks. I came in on a super hot day and was kind of out of it- I literally stared at the bored and totally zoned out and forgot what I was doing and the lady just smiled and waited for me hahaha. First, the coffee. It's very good. The staff is good too. Friendly, helpful and efficient. So why not a 5-star review? No serious flaws. But as somebody else said, the space is cozy without being cozy. A few touches could make that better. (A cushion of some sort on the sitting bench that runs along the wall behind the tables would help, for example.) Also, there are bagels -- good -- but there's no toaster. The alternative is to microwave them. But microwaved bagels just aren't the same; without the high, dry heat of a toaster, they come out doughy. I know space is at a premium in the work area, but this is really worth thinking about. Still, if you're looking for a pleasant place to have a cup of good coffee, you won't go wrong if you go to Hyperion. I'll definitely go back next time I'm on Fredericksburg. read more

I like waiting a little bit for my drink. It lets me know that care is being taken on each step. I'm not saying anything is wrong with Starbucks but it is a little off putting when I order an espresso and the barista plops down a shot glass under a spout, hits a button, and espresso starts coming out. When I was in Italy, I never saw anything like that. If you want a drink made with attention to detail on a good old fashioned Italian espresso machine, this is the place for you. I came here pretty often when I lived in the area, and it was nice to stop in today. I love that you can shop around and then pop in here for a drink/snack. Its conveniently located on the corner of William Str. Even when the line appears long the service is quick. They also have a ton of indoor/outdoor seating since they have expanded. Additional bathrooms are located in the new part. I noticed they have Foode salads/snacks in the fridge which look delicious. Normally I get the iced coffee grande, but I felt like trying something new. I got the seasonal blueberry cobbler latte over ice. My mom got the monkeylicious. The monkeylicious is one of her favorites. I wasn't super impressed with the blueberry drink. It didn't taste like cobbler, but had a funny taste to it. That being said I asked for it over ice and with rice milk so maybe that changed the taste. The pear smoothie and iced mocha have also been good in the past. I saw a veggie/carrot/fruit drink advertised that I want to try on my next visit. They also have a big water bowl for dogs if you want to sit outdoors with your pet. I like that it offers food from local stores and that the staff are as unique as Fredericksburg. Great place for serious and casual coffee drinks alike. read more

Good coffee, great location on William st. The outdoor seating is some of the best in town for people watching. You can also bring your dog to sit with you mad have coffee, which can just be awesome. They leave a giant bowl of water out front for Fido. Food selection is also pretty good for a coffee store. Second best place in town for coffee. read more

This is a nice coffeehouse with a college town vibe and a great atmosphere. We all had iced coffee drinks therefore subtle flavors of the coffee. Hot coffee is a better determinant of the quality of the cup, however the coffee was better than adequate. The oatmeal raisin cookie was quite good. read more

While in town for the week I scoped out the local coffee places. I have to preface this by saying - I LOVE coffee!! I tried out Hyperion first as it came highly recommended. While ice coffee isn't a difficult request, it was delicious especially on a hot morning before shopping. My fiancé had a iced mocha type drink which he loved. The dessert items were delicious too. I love it here:) many choices to pick from. Cold drinks, hot drinks, pastries. I have never tried the pastries so I can't say much there. Drinks, however, are delicious. I typically take a breve but have tried several others. All good. Busy place but no issue with that for me. I have always found a place to sit. At times wifi is turned off so people don't linger 8 hours with one drink... they have written bad reviews, but I agree. Have coffee and leave do others may sit. This isn't an office. Hyperion has always been the place to be seen in Fred ever since it opened. I'm not really about that. The couple of beverages I've had there are ok but it's really more about being seen which makes me uncomfortable going there. It's not the cleanest place but some would say the coolest. The coffee is decent, they have cool flavors like blueberry and lavender which are nice to change up your mocha or w/e. Not so good in a latte. The place has this funky, moldy/mildew smell on top of the roasted bean smell. It's a little strange. Other than that the place is pretty cool. The inside has character. I really like the set up of this little coffee shop. Yellow interior, old, a little crusty but not too gross and just an overall interesting place. I've been twice since I've been here and have had decent coffee each visit. The latte was delicious, frothy, and not oversteamed or burned. I had a soy latte on a separate occasion and it was just as tasty. I ate a chocolate chip muffin, but it wasn't anything to write home about. In fact..it was too sweet. A downside? Both times I went I saw bugs/flies/gnats in the food case. Having worked in a coffee shop previously, I was disappointed to see this because it's really not that hard to keep that stuff in check.... This is where you can find me at least three times a week. It's one of the best coffee houses I've ever been to. I'm so lucky it's near my home. I don't drink coffee, only espresso, so I don't know how good their regular coffee is. Their espresso drinks are fantastic though. Creamy, almost buttery. In the fall and winter we sit inside and warm ourselves with lattés and hot teas. In the spring and summer we grab our dog and take her to sit outside with us as we sip our iced coffee drinks and iced teas. We buy a cookie for her and she drinks from the communal dog bowl they put out for the many dogs of the 'burg. It's a pleasant place. You should visit. read more
