I noticed Hyperion doesn't have many recent reviews, so I wanted to leave one as we stopped in for the first time today. Yes, it's an adults only bar and grill that allows smoking. There's some nice outdoor seating as well as an open air covered space that looked really nice and would help with the smoke if that's an issue for you. Now that that fact is out of the way, let's move on! The food and service are both fantastic! Our waitress was a gem. I wish every waitress could be as sweet and friendly as that girl was. The food is not only delicious, it's so reasonably priced in this economy. We got a French dip and a club and then swapped halfway through so we could each try both. No complaints from me! The fries were seasoned and the roast beef in the French dip was chopped, so you weren't trying to bite through strings of beef. The club was jam packed with meats and cheese! It was so good! Our waitress recommended the mushroom Swiss burger with a side of au jus for our next time there. She said that's her favorite and it sounded like a great combo! We will definitely be back. We stopped on a whim as we were in town visiting our daughter and son-in-law who recently moved to Greeneville. Our Waitress was very sweet and attentive, but everything else was pretty awful. They allow smoking inside and the odor was overwhelming and probably unacceptable to most non smokers. The food was mid at best. Nearly every option was fried and seemed like it just came out of a box and went in the fryer. The Philly cheese steak was flavorless. The fish sandwich was bland. The burgers looked good, but my husband wasn't impressed. We had fried pickles as an appetizer and those were acceptable, but nothing to rave about. I've been coming here for a while now since I moved to Tennessee late August. The country fried steak is good, but I keep coming back for the chili and the two types of taco salad they make, one of which is only a lunch special on Tuesdays. Did not have a good experience at Hyperion last night. We got our tea but no more service. Had to stop somebody and ask for a menu after being there for 30 minutes. It was so smokey I couldn't breath. I should have just left but just didn't. Everybody was smoking. The air was thick with it. And it was so loud. Me and my friend could not talk to each other I know it is a bar and that is to be expected but last night was too much. The salad was good, the baked potato was dry and old tasting and the steak was tough. We were ignored. I I will not be back!!! We were in town for a long weekend and this bar was literally across the road from where we were staying. We lived the atmosphere. The food was so good. Have the Dynamite Sticks and thank me later. Our waitress Lauren felt like part of the family. The only downside is there is a regular there that used to work there that was really inebriated and she will make a nuisance of herself. I had to ask her several times to stop rubbing on my boyfriend. I'm honestly surprised the owners let her hang out like that. That said we would definitely return and if this was in our hometown it would be our local hang out spot. read more

We are new to the area and wanted an appetizer while we took a break from out move in work .at the house. As soon as we walked in we were hit with the smell of cigarettes. Now, I smoked years ago and not had a cig in many years but this place was a marlboro stink fest. We there 20 minutes and I felt like I needed a lung transplant. I only give them 2 stars because the waitress was nice. It's 2022, stop the indoor smoking and make your customers smoke outside!. I saw that you have a large outside area so it should not be an issue. It only takes 5 minutes to some a cigarette, I am sure they can handle that. read more

I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon hoping to catch some football, since I cannot get the games at my house. Staff and a few other folks at the bar were very friendly and the beer (Shiner Bock - large, draft) was just over $3. Did not try any food. However, the place smelled like an old ash tray. It was not as bad as the previous place I tried, but one beer was enough. I know from posts that I see on local social media pages that there are many people looking for a good sports bar that does not have smoking inside. 1958 is over, time for smoking to be exclusively outside. Their choice of draft beer was pretty limited, consisting of only Inbev products. With all the craft brewers around it would be nice the have a decent IPA. After 1958 is over. read more

Will update if I go back. The word "grill" is in the name, replace that with "bar" as you do not allow under 21 after dark (apparently). After seeing the menu wanted to eat there, but couldn't as my 19 year old son was with me. In Knoxville this would not have happened. Pretty easy fix tbh, but shocked they didn't have an "under 21" stamp or wrist band. Ended up spending $70 at Fatz instead, which included my drinks. read more

Has a local feel to it, for what that's worth. Parking lot is a bit off-putting...mostly older full-size trucks with mud all over them, even though it had not rained for days. Call me uptight if you want, but when you roll in with the only late model sedan in the parking lot, it brings back memories of 70's & 80's movies where some square accidentally walked into a biker bar...and hilarity ensued. Since we use Yelp regularly, we've learned to ignore exterior appearances somewhat - and have found many excellent independent restaurants by doing so. That was enough for us to press on and go in. However, the inside was about the same vibe as the parking lot, but luckily no hilarity ensued. Beer selection is 1977, as is the case with the music being played (the latter is a good thing). Pretty much all "AM Gold" selected on the jukebox with the occasional inexplicable country or dance song mixed in. I guess that sums up the place better than anything else I can say. In my opinion, this is probably not the place you go for dinner, but I guess one might as well order an appetizer if already drinking. We didn't do this however as we elected on a "one beer and out" policy due to two people at the bar who kept turning around and looking at us. Sure, we were clearly out of our element here, but not nearly enough to justify that. So for now, all I can comment on was the beer. It was fine. Mug was frosty. Price was reasonable. Server was MIA after the initial interaction. As most previous reviewers mentioned, nearly everyone inside is smoking. We didn't expect it, but as soon as you walk in the door it hits you...reminds you of being a kid and going into a bowling alley back in the day. It's a bit of a shock that some places that still allow it inside...even after studies show that drinking establishments almost universally make more when they cut it out. Is it because smokers drink a lot slower? Maybe, but the bigger picture is that so many non-smokers avoided bars over the years and now go regularly since most are non-smoking now. Heck, this is the whole reason craft brew type places are thriving so much. Anyway, take that into account before going here if it's a deal breaker for you. This place is big with the locals and that's cool. Had the BBQ sandwich, which was quite good. Wife didn't care for the place. It is a smoking restaurant, so no kids allowed (which is for the best, really, considering the atmosphere). They have free wifi. I LOVE that there is still a place where you can smoke indoors, have a drink and relax. My business orders from here regularly. The grilled shrimp is FANTASTIC!! The ONLY reason I didn't give it five stars is because the delivery is often inconsistent. I've ordered the same thing for months, they know me and what I order, and still often it is delivered incorrect. However they are a very busy establishment, the employees are fun and eager to help, and the food is so good I forgive these mistakes! Would definitely recommend for the shrimp lovers ;) read more

My workplace ordered takeout from here for lunch for us during orientation. I've never actually been to the restaurant. I decided on the fried chicken Alfredo, which has grilled veggies and comes with a house salad. It didn't impress me. It was like food that you would get from a soup kitchen or hospital cafeteria. I'm not sure if it was just what I ordered, but it certainly wasn't anything spectacular. The Alfredo was bland and had no taste. The vegetables were not grilled, but bland, mushy, over cooked pieces of broccoli and carrot. It was topped with cheddar cheese, which doesn't belong on Alfredo. The fried chicken pieces were decent. I pretty much just picked out the chicken and picked around at the salad. It also came with a dry dark brown bread roll, which looked like a sub bun. The ranch dressing was excellent, however. It tasted homemade. That's pretty much the whole reason I gave it two stars. I don't know if I would eat here again especially if I were paying, because that Alfredo definitely wasn't worth the menu price. read more

She was extremely rude to other patrons and to the performers and in general seemed to be a genuinely unprofessional and unhappy with her job. They have prime rib Friday thru Sunday. They shouldn't. Since the concepts rare, medium rare and medium vary from place to place, I ordered it pink. I got it grey. Sent it back. Got it grey again. Sent it back again. Got it grey again. Gave up and tried to eat it. Difficult to cut. Impossible to chew. Dry, stringy and tasteless; even with au jus and a mountain of also tasteless horseradish. I left it on the plate and concentrated on the good baked potato and so-so Caesar salad. The salad would have been much better with some of the lighter, crisper romaine. Theirs is all the dark, soft part of the lettuce. When I asked for the check, the server looked at my plate and said nothing. Didn't adjust for the uneaten, inedible roast beef. I paid and left. I would try again because the server was nice and tried hard. Also, the place is mainly a pretty fun bar and smoking is allowed which, being an addict, I like. But, should I have the opportunity to try again, I won't order anything requiring more culinary skill than a sandwich. read more

Inconsistent. I have had very good steaks here, but just had the worst. They knew the steak was bad. Not once did they ask me how the steak was. Not even when they took my plate with most of the steak still there. It was so tough, I could not cut it and the marinade tasted like pure vinegar. Really 5 stars you ask? For what it is, it is indeed a 5. Being from MA and traveling in VA, NC and TN, this is the first place to me that felt like home. Maybe it is the causal bar experience in warm weather with a great server...shout out to Nick. I had the Taco Salad and it was comforting. Not spicy, nicely seasoned. Hubby had the chicken on a salad, and heard no complaints from him. Yup that heavy southern food was getting to us so we had to order salad and this did not disappoint. The openness was a delight, there is an enclosed restaurant, then a more open area with bar tables and then the outside with the corn row game. It's the kind of place you can walk in and make yourself at home. Very clean restrooms. With this said we were there on a Tues evening....bet the weekends could be another story....maybe even more fun! And this is a smoking restaurant....didn't realize they still exist...but be assured it does not smell like smoke, at least while we were visiting. read more
