When we first started coming to Hollywood Beach, we would go here every morning for a hot cup of coffee, and each trip we treated ourselves to an affogato. But over the years, the prices have sky rocketed and the service we once loved became a thing of the past. The items that we got were all tasty, though my husband asked for a turtle sundae and they made it, handed it to him, and then said, "Oh, we're out of nuts..." Had he known that up front, he would have gone with a different item as you can't have a turtle sundae without nuts. The boardwalk doesn't offer much for coffee. Surprising - How can you start your day without a good cup of Joe? I always need some to wake up. My wife and I are hooked on cold brews and usually get Starbucks but we gave their ice coffee a chance as this looked like the best option out of only a few. I don't know if Haagen Dazs has lost quality or just one more follower (me). I truthfully think they're way overpriced for what you get not only quantity but especially quality wise. This Haagen Daz has been located on the Broadwalk for at least twenty years that I can remember. So today after lying on an overcrowded beach I felt I needed a treat to turn my frown upside down. Once inside I could see that they renovated nice marble counters and immaculately clean. I see they have holiday flavors but I go for the classic vanilla chocolate chip. I get 1 scoop in a small cup. It wasn't too small just exactly enough. Price $6.65 and worth every penny. I forgot how much I enjoyed this brand of ice cream. I took a seat inside looking out at the ocean. I find it pretty disturbing that an ice cream shop that profits heavily from the ecosystem it's surrounded by, refuses to comply with sea turtle lighting regulations leading to hundreds of sea turtles dying every year. Bad enough SOME of the staff is inept when it comes to giving you a straw for a milkshake or utensils for a sundae. But now the owners of the establishment can't be bothered to dim their lights during nesting season? When the other attendant was making our afogato, the rude man asked him why he made us coffee so late & said "I wouldn't have done it, I would've told them the machine was already closed at this time". The only thing I didn't like was the pricing. $27 for 3 smoothies and a bottle of water seems like a lot, but the smoothies were made with real fresh fruit and not just juices. You could really taste the difference. They contain vanilla yogurt but you can get them dairy free if you want as well. read more
