In a town where…read morebreakfast options can be somewhat limited, service can move at a different pace than larger cities, and many establishments don't open particularly early, Book Peddler fills a nice niche by serving good coffee, made-to-order breakfast items, and offering a genuinely enjoyable bookstore to browse before heading into Yellowstone. I'd still suggest checking their website for seasonal hours, but we found them open early enough to comfortably fuel up before entering the park. The coffee program is surprisingly strong for a small tourist town bookstore café. They offer several locally roasted coffees, including lighter roasts, darker roasts, and decaf options, along with espresso drinks and specialty coffee beverages. We found the coffee to be among the better options available in town. The breakfast menu was another pleasant surprise. Rather than relying solely on pastries or grab-and-go items, many of the offerings are prepared to order. You'll find breakfast burritos, sandwiches, vegetarian selections, and meat options, giving most travelers enough variety to satisfy differing tastes. It's one of the few places in West Yellowstone where you won't be steered towards elk or bison! During our visit they offered both vegetable and ham quiches, along with chili. Everything we tried was fresh, satisfying, and felt like a step above what we expected to find in a small gateway community. Service is solid, though perhaps not spectacular by large-city standards. Orders can take a little while during busier periods, but honestly it felt very much on pace with West Yellowstone as a whole. The staff was friendly, accommodating, and seemed genuinely interested in making sure guests had a good experience. Given the town's relative isolation and dependence on deliveries, it's also not uncommon for certain items to occasionally be unavailable, whether that's a specific milk option, produce item, or pastry. We found the staff to be upfront about availability, and it never materially detracted from the experience. The bookstore itself is worth spending some time in, even if you originally stopped by only for coffee. The selection leans heavily into Yellowstone, national parks, western fiction, travel, and regional history. It's a much better place to find a unique souvenir or gift to bring home than another shop selling the same T-shirts, magnets, and trinkets found throughout town. Final Thoughts: Book Peddler quietly does several things well at once. It's a good coffee shop, a surprisingly strong breakfast stop, and an independent bookstore that rewards browsing. If you're spending a few days in West Yellowstone, I would recommend making at least one morning visit before heading into the park. While small in size and selection, GSG (solely an acronym and not meant to sound like a new street…read moredrug) is the closest shop to the north entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Since addresses are practically non-existent in Gardiner, MT (check out Google Maps if you don't believe me), just go all the way to the far west end of the main shopping strip on Park Street or simply ask one of the locals. GSG is a gift shop with a lot of key chains, bumper stickers, knick-knacks and cute children's t-shirts. Next door, like all the other souvenir shops in Gardiner, is a little cafe selling sweets and coffee. GSG's cafe seems to be the only cafe in town to actually have locals in it drinking their coffees while passing countless hours of the day away (most likely gossiping about own townies and homely, outdoorsy tourists). I recommend Yellowstone Gifts & Sweets down the street but both stores have different items for sale unlike many other tourist towns.

Once we found Espresso West / Miss Billie's Bake Shop, we returned at least three more times! (Jul 2026) The espresso drinks were delicious, perfectly brewed. Pastries were scrumptious, and freshly made. Their ice cream was rich and creamy and had the flavors we wanted: chunky crunchy moose tracks, and, of course, huckleberry! And we had to get a huge Grizzly Cinnamon Roll :-). They also offered breakfast and lunch sandwiches, tea, hot, chocolate, smoothies, frappes, shakes, floats, malts, Italian sodas, huckleberry soda, (!), regular sodas, bottled water, and juice. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The kitchen in the trailer was bright and clean. The deck has a few tables for maybe 6 people. It has a few steps up. Open 7am-1pm Wed-Mon. Come find this place, just a little bit out on Gibbon Ave. Everything is close to everything in West Yellowstone :-)

I got a 20z mocha with almond milk that was really good and the price is very reasonable. They also have gigantic cinnamon rolls, breakfast burritos and sandwiches which I did not partake in but others were ordering. They were super sweet and it was nice to have a place away from the hustle and bustle. They appear to be closed in Tuesdays so just a heads up.
