    8 oz filet. Medium rare.
    Mark B.

Made a reservation for 6 for a special occasion. We got there a bit early and were warmly greeted. The place was pretty quiet at the time (7 pm) but that was OK for us. They had the table ready and we were promptly seated. The service was amazing - it's the kind of "attention to detail" old school service that is so hard to find these days. We observed the staff setting another table and noted the extra effort to place every glass the same, with the same distance to table edge for all the silverware, plates, etc. The ambiance was also fantastic. The building was built in 1688, and was a hotel originally. The room had old wood floors and ceiling, with hand-hewn large wood beams, and lots of stone work typical of that timeframe. But of course all the ambiance and service doesn't matter if the food isn't good. Don't worry - it is also great. We ordered the 8 oz filet, which was cooked to perfect temperature, and super tender. You can get a choice of two sauces, which you can also request are on the side, which I recommend because the meat doesn't need any help. Sides can be individual, or shared. I had the mashed potatoes (perfectly creamy but not too runny), and asparagus, which was a substitute for the broccolini. For dessert there was the creme brûlée which was also very good.

    Seafood Tower

This place was pretty awesome. The décor was great, the restaurant was trendy and dimly lit. I came here with a group of 13 for a friend's bachelor party and this was a very manly dinner and also the most expensive meal on our trip. The food: Seafood Tower- This was a special for the day and the tower was great, it was scallops on the half shell, snow crab legs and oysters on the half shell. Everything was so fresh and delicious, the thing that actually tied everything together perfectly was the fresh grated horseradish. It really added a nice clean flavor to the seafood that went together nicely. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=CRYW8uxA-Mk6I-YukI52VA&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Tomahawk Steak- This was another special of the day and it was a huge tomahawk that was for 4 people. The flavor and tenderness on this was really nice. This was definitely a showstopper piece. The Bearnaise was also a nice touch. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=N0P3pmRdmjUfNDO-s9nEaQ&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA 21 Day Dry Aged Prime Rib- This was actually the main reason we came here and to be honest even till today I am a bit confused. The menu clearly said Prime Rib but to me this isn't what I think of when I think Prime Rib. What we got looked more like a NY Strip. It was still delicious and we all enjoyed it but just not what I expected. Maybe since it is a different country Prime Rib means something else in Canada. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=a8TVUW6JRPwLuPbO6nGqrg&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Sauteed Mushrooms- These were absolute delicious especially paired with their homemade brioche. So as much as I enjoyed this, it made no sense to me that they served this and the rapini as apps. We ordered the seafood tower, both steaks and the sides. I would have thought the sides would have came with the steaks, unfortunately we were eating steak by itself. Garlic Rapini- To me, they were just like sauteed broccoli rabe, it was OK.

Burrata with peaches and brioche with herb butter

We were strolling in Old Montreal looking for a good dinner place. This place is off the busy Rue St.Paul. The sign and the low stonewall made us curious, so we checked it out. There was a pretty patio for dining and a very cavernous indoor dining space that looked dark, old world, and sexy. I also saw a beautiful event space for weddings. The weather was so nice that we decided to eat outdoors. The food is upscale and seasonal. We loved the starters we chose- burrata with peaches and roasted eggplant with pesto. We also ordered the brioche with herb butter. We were famished, otherwise we would've skipped the brioche as there was a bread basket that came out with the eggplant dish. The entrees we ordered were the grilled octopus with cauliflower mash and filet mignon with black pepper sauce with a side of chanterelle mushrooms. Should've gotten the asparagus side since the octopus dish had some chanterelle as well. But they were seasoned differently. However, the side of mushrooms was very garlicky, which stole the spotlight from the mushrooms. Overall, I found all the food to be pretty tasty. The filet was cooked perfectly medium. One thing to improve would be the temp of the food. I prefer dishes to come out piping hot. However, a lovely dining experience here. One minor annoyance is that one of the servers who took over our table was wearing a very strong cologne. You would get a whiff of it every time he passed by or came over. I hope the management would address this with the staff. However, the service was great. If you are looking for a leisurely dinner in a lovely dining space with good food, I recommend this place. Just a note, we spent about $70/pp and that's without alcohol. By

I went here for a corporate legal dinner but have been here a few times before as a regular diner. Great atmosphere in a very old Montreal stone building with lots of cut wood at the front entrance (which always smells good). We walked up a very old stairwell to the third floor (my guess) leading to a coat room and a foyer (see the Buck picture) with a few pianos setup. The foyer leads to a bar and a broad seating area with large tables. The wine selection was limited to French red pinot noir, which was just okay, and a white. They had beer as well. The salad first course was tasty and the short ribs were quite good - everyone finished their plates at my table. I recommend L'Auberge if you're in Montreal for a few nights. It's quite an interesting place and the food and presentation is high-end.

Foie gras with poached pear, brioche, plum jam

We had a dinner reservation at 9:30 PM on Saturday and there were a lot of people present, especially locals which was pretty cool (we were clearly tourists). We ordered three items as it was a smaller dinner: the foie gras appetizer with pear, plum, almonds and brioche; the duck breast entree; and the passion fruit and orange exotic dome. The foie gras appetizer was decent but made better with the interesting combination of the poached pear and plum jam. The brioche with this was very tiny and not really worth sharing. The duck breast was cooked perfectly, with a crispy exterior and tender interior. The lingonberries jam with this was very good and we wiped the plate clean. I am not sure we got very much in the way of mushrooms but plenty of turnips and potato-like crisps. Finally, the exotic dome dessert was beautiful, but I was not as impressed as my companion was by the dessert. She was really impressed with the passion fruit coulis the cake dome was swimming in with little pieces of orange, but I was not. The cake was pretty basic vanilla with a mousse like top and did not have much flavor - that all came from the passion fruit and orange. To summarize: would happily order the foie gras and duck again, but not the dessert. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful with recommendations. They did seem surprised that two of us were sharing food, which is understandable in hindsight as the portions are pretty small. While we were there, a large party celebrated a birthday and it looked very fun with a sparkling cake brought out and the whole staff seeming to get into it. (Though it also seemed like perhaps the staff knew that table.) Overall, it was a nice place to grab a well-made fancy dinner in Montreal, and I would visit again if the occasion called for it!

Hope to come back next time I'm in Montreal! The person that served us was SO busy, but he was the ONLY person on the floor. He gave great service despite how busy he was inside and outside. The food was amazing as well. My server suggested a great drink to me. I don't recall the name but added the picture for reference. Love the overall vibe of this place.

Great atmosphere, service and sophisticated eats. Thomas was the best. Steak and seafood , and oysters on point

It's a warm summer Saturday in July and we got a table for supper but it looks like no reservations are needed because the resto was fairly quiet. There were only a few occupied tables inside and outside on the terrace. Since it was quiet, after ordering, we asked our waiter if we could tour the building. They gladly obliged and sent us one of the staff members to take us on a tour all the way up to the attic piano room and then down to the basement where there's the speakeasy. The building was built in 1688 and was at one point a hotel but today is a resto, bar and reception space. The decor and artwork is definitely eclectic! Foodwise, they serve cheese puffs/sticks as a free appetizers. These are good and I'll have these over Cheetos any day!! They're light and flakey, dusted with Parmesan. Appetizers. I was hesitant to try the roasted cauliflower but since we were having the bone marrow, our waiter recommended it be paired with the cauliflower. It didn't disappoint! It's roasted cauliflower with a vinaigrette of capers, lemon, parsley, anchovies, olive oil on a cauliflower puree (cannibalistic, I know). Humble yet satisfying. It's creamy due to the puree but not too heavy because of the vinaigrette and got that umami kick from the anchovies. It's a great spread for the bread! The bone marrow is nice to try. It's very fatty and flavorwise tastes like ramen soup base (cause that's how ramen broth is made--pork bone). The volume of marrow is about 1-2 tablespoons and goes well with the bread. The parsley salad with vinaigrette is perfect to balance the richness of the marrow. For the mains, we were recommended the sea bream over the steak as it was accompanied by a fresh house-grown salad of radishes, kale, dill weed, mint, shredded purple cabbage in a lemony, capered vinaigrette. The sea bream is a delicate white meat fish grilled whole with lemon and capers. My two complaints are that along the spine it was undercooked and they didn't descale the whole fish so parts of the grilled fish skin couldn't be eaten even though it was a very tasty. Also warning, this dish is fairly involved as you'll have a whole fish with bones on your plate. You'll have to filet it with your fork and knife as you go!! Overall decent dish for the adventurous. The rigate pasta was underwhelming as it was rather dry and lacked flavor, not sure the fava beans helped the cause. The portion was huge but it would've been better to have smaller quantity of pasta but have more trimmings of fried artichoke, pesto and mushrooms. It tastes predominately of dill. For dessert, as we were in a hurry to go to another event, we ordered the vanilla lemon mille-feuille and devoured it. It's good but nothing overly spectacular, especially for the price. The staff was very nice. Our waiter took the time to describe the dishes, which I appreciate. Our meal flavor theme was centered around lemon/capers which made for a light tasting meal.

I came to Montreal on a girl's trip in 2017 and we had dinner at L'Auberge Saint-Gabriel. Fast forward to 2019 and I was planning a return trip to Montreal with my boyfriend. The first thing I did was make dinner reservations here. The building itself is beautiful and has such an amazing rich history. We were seated promptly when we arrived. I ordered a glass of orange wine and my boyfriend ordered a mojito. The mojito was well made! The orange wine was cold and crisp. Really different taste. I chose the spit roasted Cornish hen. It was good, but missing something I can't quite put my finger on. However, the meat was tender and juicy! My boyfriend got a piece of beef. Unfortunately, I can't remember what cut it was. He really enjoyed it! We ordered the hazelnut sponge cake for dessert. It was amazing. With the bill, we received some complimentary small jelly-like candies. It was a nice touch to end the meal. We will absolutely return the next time we are in Montreal!

Olive bread and butter. Wish they'd warm the bread though.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Excellent plating. Excellent ambiance. What more could we want? L'Auberge Saint-Gabriel is a fancy restaurant in the heart of Old Montreal where people tend to dress up and enjoy some delicious food with wine pairings $$$. We dined here in a fully-booked dining room for my first #MtlaTable experience of 2017. The menu sounded drool-worthy and at $41 a person, I had high expectations. Let's just say none of us left hungry and we were all impressed! They had cauliflower slow-roasting in front of us. That was a beautiful sight - and the cover photo for this post! It also kept the dining room warm, especially since we were seated at the closest table to the fire. To start, we enjoyed the complimentary olive bread and cheese sticks. The waitress was a little pushy when asking if we wanted to start with a bottle of wine or some of their specialities like mussels, oysters or foie gras. I'm sure it's part of her job and I have noticed that at other Mtl a Table restaurants, they tend to push alcohol as a way to make up for their special menu pricing so it's fine. For our appetizers, we ordered the salmon confit, as well as the slow-roasted cauliflower - which ended up being delicious! I don't like cauliflower but apparently slow-cooking it is the way to go. Though it was a little too filling for an appetizer. The salmon was better portion-wise. For our mains, we tried the Quebec wild mushroom risotto and the hanger steak. The portion of the risotto was very generous, more so than the steak but everything tasted amazing. Already pretty full, we were excited for dessert. The presentation was fantastic. The lemon millefeuille, the chocolate tarte, and the tarte tartin were amazing but were our favourites in that order. Very creative and delicious. What a great end to the meal!

    Osso bucco veal

We were seated immediately and the service was great. I ordered the scallops and gnocchi and it was fantastic. My boyfriend ordered the osso bucco veal and he really liked it along with the polenta. Probably our favorite meal while visiting Montreal.

Such a pleasant surprise and this was a wonderful cap to our final night at Montreal. Our server was friendly and did a great in explaining the menu while recommending some of his favorite items (that's important in order to reflect the server's enthusiasm about the menu!). My husband and I started off with a dozen of refreshing East Coast oysters. Following that, the salmon tartare was light enough that it prepared us for the next items. Truly a fan of the creamy and smooth foie gras that I ate it just like that without the crackers in order not to ruin the pure taste of it. The halibut was of generous portion and the entire fillet was carefully and sliced and grilled. I really loved that the skin was still in tact when they grilled and presented the fish. We haven't gone the dessert route for a long time as we usually prefer to get another cocktail to end our night. We made an exception during this night since we enjoyed all the items that came out from the kitchen. No regrets at all and the pistachio olive oil cake was perfectly moist and not dense so we didn't leave filling like gluttons. The space here is gorgeous and it's located in a historic building.

This restaurant is easy to miss along the main drag of Old Montreal. Nestled in North America's oldest Inn, the space does not lack character. The old stone walls and candle-lit fireplace harken back, while lighting, art and fixtures offer a bit more modern of a treatment. There's a dinosaur spine and other ultra-modern gothic fixtures. It's definitely trendy, and a little disjointed - but a cool space nonetheless. Service was great. Our waitress made a mistake with our order and offered up some pro bono treats in exchange. She was excellent otherwise. The food was more of a mixed bag. At one angle, the presentation was excellent. Everything was done artfully and with care, as one would expect at such a premium price point. The flavors themselves were mixed. The rabbit gaspacho was amazing. The foie gras appetizer was beautiful, but mixed sweet strawberry flavors with the bitter/salty foie gras. It was one of the most intensely flavored dishes I've ever had, but not in a good way. Perhaps my pedestrian palate is not up to the challenge, but neither of us could finish it. Shame. Onto the main course, the lamb was perfectly prepared and tender, and the accompaniments were an interesting mix of distinct and strong flavors. This worked better as a flavor profile, but I felt the texture was wrong. Everything seemed a bit mushy. It needed some other texture to offset the tender lamb. I might not be this picky normally, but at this price level I expect more. She had a homemade pasta dish, that was very good - but overly simplistic ingredient-wise for the price level, and scant with the pasta. Overall, there were some flashes of brilliance, a great space, good service - but an ultimately underwhelming overall food experience for the amount paid.

On the positive side, the space is stunning and the food was excellent - both were highlights for us. However, our experience on the planning side raised several concerns. Communication and expectations were unclear from the outset. We initially believed we would be working with one team member, but later learned that a different person would be managing our wedding, which was not clearly communicated and created confusion early on. Throughout the process, we found the planner's approach to be rigid and not particularly collaborative. We were open to guidance, but often felt that our preferences were dismissed in favor of doing things a specific way. During our tasting, for example, some of our menu selections (chosen directly from the venue's own offerings) were criticized as not being "classy" or "elegant," which felt inappropriate and unnecessarily condescending. There were also multiple instances that felt unprofessional, including meetings starting late and recurring interruptions during scheduled time together. We also encountered a significant issue regarding payment transparency for a vendor booked through the venue. A deposit we paid was invoiced as a payment toward the band, but was not fully applied as such, and this was not disclosed at the time of payment. The matter was only resolved after escalation. While it is clear that the team is capable of executing events, our experience did not reflect the level of professionalism, transparency, or care that is essential when planning a wedding. A wedding is not just another event, and the planning process requires a level of respect, communication, and client focus that we did not consistently experience here. Due to these concerns, we ultimately chose to move forward with a different venue, as we did not feel confident continuing with the planning process. Based on our experience, we would not recommend this venue for weddings. Couples should proceed with caution and ensure they have a clear, documented understanding of vendor payments, responsibilities, and expectations before committing!

The purpose of this review is by all means to rave about Clandestino. Very chill vibe, the space is small, tiny bar counter and some sofas, where if you are lucky you can sit with a big group of friends and enjoy some drinks. Since Clandestino seems to serve as an overflow bar for Boho sometimes there are to many people just coming in and standing in the tiny opened space next to the bar. Be determined and jump on the first available seat if you'd like to hang in there longer. Clandestino has a ginourmous list of mescals and tequilas. We did rely on the recommendation of the bar tender for the first round and fortunately we kept the receipt so we know what were the amazing smoky mescals we ended up trying. The cocktail list is so attractive that no doubt we had to try the mixes, tequila end mescal can be substituted upon request, but in general I like to stick to the original liquor choice of the mixologist. Don Solares and El Matador were perfect choices, where the El Matador certainly wins the competition. All the drinks are served in a fancy way, the tequilas and mescals are accompanied by fruits that will enhance the flavors. I loved the choice of music and the lights, very cozy space that could be also perfect for a more intimate encounter.

Hôtel Nelligan - Hotel is on the left of this torn up street

"The drummers and jugglers in Montreal Don't even exist at…read moreall" (Rufus Wainwright) One of Nelligan's greatest attributes is its location. This grand hotel is squarely located between the Old Port and Old Montreal neighborhoods, so you literally have hundreds of cool places to visit or dine at within minutes. The Nelligan is an old hotel in an old city, so if you're expecting something like a Marriott in a suburban location, you'll be greatly disappointed. In the mid 1800's, the current Nelligan hotel was once four separate historic buildings that over the years contained a warehouse, grocery store, paper company and pharmaceutical store. In 2002, these various structures were rebuilt, refined, updated, and joined together to launch the new Hotel Nelligan. Walking around the hotel and trying to find your room number can be adventurous because we encountered numerous small staircases in the corridors. To go from our room to the elevator, we had to go up one small staircase, make a few lefts and rights in a hallway, and then down a second small staircase to the hallway with the elevators. And since I mentioned the subject of room numbers, that turned out to be a real thorny issue, because on check-in day, the signs directing us to room 323 brought us nowhere near room 323. The signs were wrong. We found a chambermaid who told us "the signs are wrong" and escorted us on a long circuitous walk to our room. The next day printed "corrections" to the room number signs had been tacked up. Another issue we encountered (although it sure wasn't the hotel's fault) was the construction on St. Paul West that effectively closed the street and vehicle access to the hotel. The street was totally torn up from curb to curb by heavy equipment and there were plywood walls defining the very narrow sidewalks up and down lower St. Paul West including the hotel entrances. There were also plywood sheets atop the torn-up sidewalks. Walking down the narrow sidewalk with suitcases was nearly impossible. When we drove up to check in, of course the street was closed, but there are some very helpful valets who have cones and markers set up on the corner of St. Paul and St. Sulpice. They were fantastic and let us park there while we walked to the hotel with our luggage and checked in with the front desk and the hotel valet station. Truth is, every hotel employee we interacted with was FIVE STAR FANTASTIC to deal with. Our room was pretty big with a cool stone wall. The satellite reception and WIFI worked well, the bed was comfy, and the big bathroom was great, with a huge rainfall shower and good pressure and temperature. So, as long as you can anticipate the traffic and access problems, and take everything else with a grain of salt, you can really enjoy your stay here at a very cool old-school hotel..

This place is poppin'. With 2 connecting restaurants, a reception area, a lobby bar and a rooftop…read morebar, there were always people in the area and something going on. This is a popular area of the city in Old Town. This was in my Top 3 nicest of hotels that I've ever stayed. You can see that the entire building was recently renovated and updated. I even took a bath in the clawfoot tub (I haven't taken a bath in a tub since around 2011). When I return to Montreal, I'll be staying here again.
