Cute, cozy gem with a casual ohana-type vibe. Menu is light on the appetizers and drinks but lots of sushi options. You use a tablet to order and service is quick, even on a busy weekend night. Our favorite was salmon sashimi in a yuzu sauce. Only 5 pieces for that dish and we could've easily had more but had lots of rolls. Baked rolls are hefty with fish and veggies. Some a bit overhauled, but thats a small critique compared to the overall freshness and taste of the food. I never really review restaurants but have to make an exception for the lovely team here. I've become somewhat of a regular, stopping by at least once a week for a quick bite or to bring a friend. The staff treat me like a part of their family and the space only enhances that feeling. The calming music, all wood interior, and the hundreds of little details littered around the space. You can have a ton of fun just darting your eye around and looking at all the funny decor. The food is great and always fresh. If you're looking for a quick bite, I go for the yellowtail hamachi and ALWAYS get the miso soup. What stands out above everything else is how they treat you. Maybe it's because I come so often, but I'm always greeted with a huge smile and all the staff seem excited to have you dine in, they take great pride in their service. I am o so very sad. But it has nothing to do with this restaurant I'm just depressed and now I am writing a yelp review. This restaurant was really good actually. The sushi was fun especially the elote one very unique. It was also a good price with the combo. $50 for a good amount (with 2 people we had a hard time finishing) the service was also very nice. It's self service mostly for water and napkins and such but the host and people still checked in on us. Ambiance was also super cute and a nice theme. Very very nice yay yay sushi. Love the to go pizza boxes! Fast service and brought it out to us waiting outside. The combo D was enough for 3 people as long as you aren't starving, good size for 2 if you're hungry. We stopped by after visiting Helms Bakery and were excited to finally check this place out. We first noticed it during the Culver City Art Walk but saw they weren't fully open at the time. We ordered a couple of maki rolls and the Szechuan tofu--everything was delicious. They gave us a sample of the ramen broth, which was also good. Awesome, awesome, awesome! Note, they're still in soft opening right now, so hours / days may be different / changed / what not. While on a nightly walk in Culver City, I noticed that I 8Sushi storefront was finally open and I immediately took advantage. The menu is still under construction (I think), but I grabbed the salmon sashimi and a normal tuna roll. The tuna roll was great, but upon getting to the sashimi, that was the kicker. It was incredibly soft and buttery (oh so buttery), and great to taste. Service was fast and it ambiance of the storefront was especially sweet since it's fall. 100% recommend! read more

Was so excited that there was a new sushi place opening in the neighborhood. Been following their Instagram was before they actually opened and was captivated by their photos and marketing. Unfortunately, I must say I'm a little disappointed. The interior was nice, new and modern. But at a closer look, there were just a lot of mixed elements that just didn't make sense to me. It was a sushi rolls place, so it was obviously Japanese, but there were also a lot of tropical island elements, and the rolls also came in a pizza box. I guess it brings a little Hawaiian / California vibe, but it felt a tiny but off to me. They had a small selection of rolls including tuna, yellowtail, salmon, etc. And unfortunately, they didn't even have yellowtail that day. But forgivable as seeing it was still their soft opening. I ordered one OmG crunch roll take out ($22 with tax and tip). I was expecting a awe moment when I got my order, but it was very messy and the presentation really wasn't up to my expectations. The taste was OK. Maybe a slight bit better than rolls you'd get at wholefoods. The little crunchy cereal-like bits were new to me. And the rolls were quite large. But each piece was so big I had no way of putting the entire thing in my mouth at once. So it made it even messier.... To be honest, after writing the review, I feel like it should be more like 3.5 stars for me. But seeing it as they are still a brand new business, I think I might give them another chance sometime. I'm so medium with this. I was soo excited to have a sushi spot in the area and have now been a few times. The opening hours can be unpredictable, and the most gutting thing is that I really, really want to eat their poke/chirashi type bowls. However, they're never on the menu in the evening. If they were, I'd likely order from here twice a week or more! I don't always want a ton of rice or noodles in the evening, so having a 'rice optional' dish or two would be great. The tofu was delicious, but not always on the menu. The rolls for me are a bit too Americanized. They are so hard to eat as the pieces are huge meaning that eating with a friend and not having to chew really awkwardly is impossible. So you're left to the maki rolls if you don't want to feel self-conscious as you eat. That being said the salmon lovers roll is delicious...(but I'd only order it alone). If you have in-dining, you don't get served wasabi, you have to ask. No one is ever at the bar and no one welcomes you. It's a really impersonal experience. Perfect for those who hate people and would rather spend more time looking at their 'phone. But to me going out to eat is about leaving your devices and enjoying being present. The decor is done so nicely, but for the florescent lights that stream through from the kitchen, ruining the ambience if you happen to face that way. It's also very, very drafty as the door is always open. So unless it's summer, dress as you would for outdoor dining. It's cold. Overall just a shame not to have ever been welcomed or asked for feedback as a local and potential regular. So I'll post here and see what the verdict is! I'd love to want to go all the time as it has the potential to be wonderful! read more

Portion to price is abysmal. Being in Culver City I can almost overlook it. However I've been 5 times at least since opening and the bathroom is still out of order.
